Can Cal win in this era. I think he has an eye for talent.
Personally, I think it’s time for a change. I don’t dislike Cal, but the game has changed around him. A big time recruit (Sallis) chose elsewhere because he “didn’t want to play in a double post offense.”
Not sure who UK could pursue . . . I wouldn’t give Donovan a 3rd chance to turn us down though. I’d probably be interested In a younger up-and-comer. I’d probably give Kenny Payne a call.

Same with me, I have no idea who we'd get to replace him. Maybe Chris Holtmann since he grew up in Nicholasville and loves UK.

There are those out there who say UK would be an idiot to let Cal slip away, but he and San Diego State’s coach have been to the same number of Final Fours in the last 5 years.

Honestly, I don't think Calipari will coach anywhere else. Also, he's Barnhardt's prized coaching hire, and no way he'll fire him.

Even way back when he was here in Memphis he rubbed some of the fans here the wrong way the same way he's rubbing some UK fans the wrong way. He does talk down to the fanbase at times and of course, like a lot of coaches, has an ego the size of something hyperbole couldn't describe.
Calipari isn't close to the hot seat. Not in the slightest. With how crazy his buyout is he could have several more losing seasons before it would enter into their minds to make a change.
Trust me, if he has .500 seasons, buyout won't be an issue. Ask Tubby and how he woke up with "For Sale" signs in his yard.

Cal and UK are gonna be just fine. This year was just a well, a write off year. Cal knows how to get a team to compete. This team played hard, just couldn't turn the corner. I think we would have had a decent showing in the NCAAT last year.

Definitely. I mean when was the last time Kentucky got a top 5 recruit? 5+ years ago? Not all 5*'s are equal. Huge gap between the top players and the rest.

I think I heard he gets $1 million per year for life if he sticks it out for another few years. I’d expect him to stay there until at least that time.
Honestly, Beard makes the most sense for Texas. They will have to break open the piggy bank to lure him away from Tech but they have the money and he's worth it IMO.
There's another reason Cal stays at Kentucky, his political ambitions. He's kicked around the idea of going into politics after retiring. Win some more hardware, then Cal, you can be king.
If he did win that NC it would have been different.

That is part of the problem with this state imo. Not meaning to derail this into a political thing but the mere fact that your quote is not only possible it could be quite probable, and that in itself should be alarming. That success as a basketball coach would be enough to make people Put any coach in a position of power within the government is pretty insane.
That being said, I think Cal would make a helluva Politician 😂. Really can’t think of a better candidate from coaches. maybe wright or bennet.

Not sure I see an adv of the Texas job over tech tbh. Guess brand power, but football will always be first, where at tech I can see them transforming into a b-ball first school, bc they haven’t had much success in football anyways. But football is king in Texas so who knows.
