Socialism doesn't work...

Why do we Americans pretend that we're not socialist? You all pay taxes yes? Do your taxes go to fund government organizations? Our police, fire departments, NASA, military, etc. are all socialist organizations if you're not aware.

True. But they all hold our safety or interests, so they're acceptable (probably). At least for me. I need and want those organizations.

I've never called the police or needed their protection, not have I ever needed a fireman. I'm not saying they aren't needed but I've never gotten my money worth.

Any other links besides what looks like a propaganda news site?

Also, you likely haven't needed police or fire assistance because they are there. Police and fire services have been improving safety since their existence. Theres a reason why the majority of people aren't living like a western movie and fires constantly burning down entire blocks. It's due to the police and fire prevention and education.

Extremes don't work. Absolute capitalism is as bad as absolute socialism. There's a balance to be struck. That doesn't mean the balance point is smack dab in the middle, but elements of both philosophies have merit.

Fires don't just pop up. Ever heard of

I'm just telling you my experience and I've never needed a government anything to take care of me.

As far as wildfires in Cali... I always thought "only you can prevent forest fires". How do fires just start? Is it spontaneous combustion? I say don't build your house in a place that has magic fires that just pop up. Or don't build your house near fault lines.

Have you ever heard of lightning? Sometimes a fire does just pop up.
Yes, I've seen lightning strike a man and kill him at a soccer field. I've also seen lightning strike the middle of a tree in my backyard. Neither time did I see any fire.

You have received value, though. Your house would be much less valuable if your town did not have police and fire services. You would likely have more crime, or have to pay a private company to patrol the streets (and I guess figure out a way to give them actual police powers). Home owners insurance would be higher without fire services available because expected losses from fires would be higher.

Also are you saying that lightning does not cause fires because you haven't personally witnessed it in the whole two (2) lightning strikes you've seen? Faaaantastic!

No, I'm just saying out of the lightning strikes I have seen, they have not started fires. Just my experience.

In my experience cops are as criminal as anybody else.

If you think socialism is a cure for corruption - especially in a country like America-, you’re sorely misguided.
But why can't we let Venezuela make their own decisions? If socialism is so bad, why can't we let it fail on its own?

I don't think that at all. I think we're all a bunch oh hypocrites who like socialism when it suits us and deny it when it doesn't.

We do have too many socialistic programs, which are good in theory, bad in practice. Government interjection is generally inefficient and rife with corruption. There are certain programs and services that have to be subsidized by the government because no one would produce them on the open market, and those should be government controlled via tax.

However, full on socialism takes away incentive to innovate, and puts the power in the hands of the state, which squanders resources that are more efficiently allocated in privatized competition.

It’s also historically muderous, and you don’t have to look far back into history to see examples of that.

But how do you know it wasn't being messed with like it is now? We don't. We could have been doing this for hundreds of years wherever socialism pops up.

Its a utopian idea. Human nature wins out, and there will always be corruption.

Bottom line, you don’t want economic resources controlled by ignorant bureaucrats.

Who is calling for "full on socialism?"

Not sure, but couldn’t really get a feel for the intent of the thread.

Socialism or “democratic socialism” has been making a comeback in the election cycles because too much bad rhetoric goes unchecked.

I try to do my part.
