I've always said that if I ever coach youth baseball, I'm going to implement small ball. No one out, and runner on first, I'm having them bunt regardless of who is batting if the pitch is a strike. Have a feeling this wouldn't be too popular with parents and some players. However I'm big on the team aspect in all sports. Plus I believe it will be a great way to get youngsters prepared for higher levels in their careers. Thoughts?

Not a problem. You join the vacation board when Rivals went crazy a few months back?

South Carolina uses a ton of small ball and we're one of the best programs in th country year in and year out. I believe OBP is more valuable than Batting percentage.

I agree, better chance of winning, when you can get people on base.

OP is right, concentrating on team ball/ small ball is a great idea. When I played in high school, this was instilled in us. A few took issue with it, but overall it allowed us to beat slightly better teams than us on a regular basis.

My father is the commish of our local adult baseball league and the team that lives by small ball has won the title two years in a row. There are a lot of ex college and ex semi pro players in the league who have a high batting average as well, but as a team small ball has been dominating the league.

An old co-worker and a couple cousins of mine thought about resurrecting our old youth program that went extinct. I know parents can be greatly against it. Especially thinking a little leaguer will be the next MLBer.

I have not as of yet, but might need it with Verizon ownership looming.
