Wow, I can't believe Chris Cornell has passed away. The lead singer for Soundgarden and Audioslave suddenly passed away at the age of 52. No official cause of death yet. Sorry, I don't have a link.

This freaking blows. Really sucks, with Weiland you always expected to see it happen but I never thought Cornell was a junkie. I hope it wasn't an OD he'd supposedly been sober since about 2003

    It was suicide, damn.

Saw him live a BUNCH of times throughout his career with Soundgarden, Audioslave, and his solo tours. Of all the bands that came out in that era which there were a ton Chris was the best singer as far as range, not so much Soundgarden was the best band of them all but they had the best front man.....just ridiculous talent. Layne was a close 2nd.

Layne was amazing but he did not have Chris's range.

Saw it also in one of the many articles out. Said his wife could not get in touch with Chris after the show. She called someone to check on him and they had to force their way into his room where he was found in the bathroom already gone.

Along with Soundgarden, Chris was part of the initial wave of Seattle Rock in the late 1980s and among its brightest stars in the 1990s. They were part of Sub Pop Records and their contribution to the Sub Pop 200, "Sub Pop Rock City" is one of the better songs on that compilation special which also featured one of Nirvana's first releases, "Spank Thru."

Dude had a solid voice range.

Next you are going to tell me the Columbian govt cracked down on the plants and eradicated them. Now there won't be anymore cocaine. That would just about be the last thing from my 20's to go.

Chris wasn't a singer with great range. He was a yeller with great range!

This isn't a Chris v Layne thread or who had the better band im just saying as far as strictly singing Chris was the one who was by himself in that category.

Chris had a 4 octave vocal range......that's the same as Whitney Houston,Maynard James Keenan and Freddie Mercury.

Again, im the biggest AIC fan you will find but Chris was the best. I have seen everyone of these bands play live and Chris was one of the ones who really stood out. Cornells best work live in concert wasn't so much with Soundgarden or Audioslave.........it was those solo tours he went on. That's when you could see how great he was because it was him up there by himself.....saw him twice at the House of Blues, I remember both of them.

I always thought of grunge as 6 major bands:

    Pearl Jam
    Soundgarden
    Nirvana
    Smashing Pumpkins
    Alice in Chains
    Stone Temple Pilots

With Cornell's voice being in a category above all else.

I'm bummed out about this news. I was in college in the early and mid 90s and used to listen to them all the time. My 8. year olds favorite song is "Spoonman".
