    4.5mil per year for 5.

Not bad. If he does well, you bump it. If he does bad, you're not in a huge hole. Will be interesting to see what the buyout is. Bet it favors tOSU.

I think that's fair. They'll give him at least three years, if he shits the bed it's a good buyout. If he's lighting up they'll extend him. Win-win for both parties. Day gets a contract long enough to show he can win, but gives OSU an escape hatch if things go south.

Yeah, some fans wanted a 2 year contract but that would have been an epic fail for recruiting. This actually seems like a fair and balanced contract for both sides. I agree ... 3 years, unless he really shits the bed.

Yeah, it would have to be pretty bad for him to be gone after 2 years. Urban left the program in really good shape. The last couple recruiting classes have been tits so the cupboard is full. Recruiting has been in a bit of a lull the last few months for obvious reasons. But 2020 is looking really good so far.

No matter how good Day is, they are Ohio State & should be able to get a top 5 coach no matter where they are coaching at right now. OSU is a top 5 program and they should never settle for an unproven head coach no matter how far the needle leans one way. For the rest of the B1G having them sign Day as next HC: well, that is better than getting a top 5 coach to replace a top 3 coach.

Yeah, thing is that the coaching carousel this season and likely for the next few years is really weak. Not sure if any of the tops guys are leaving where they're at.

As much as I'd rather go with a proven guy, this is probably the better move in the short term to keep the momentum up. The talent is definitely there, just needs to play a little better.

Meyer believes he is ready ... we shall see.

Everyone thought hiring a double A coach was stupid too. That coach ended up winning a title and dominating the B1G.

I've heard a few times that this is 'Ohio States Lincoln Riley'.

Is that in reference to offense or just that he's young and talented?

I think it's reference to both being talented young offensive minds who were hired in house to be the new HC.

I am certain that Meyer will always be available as a resource to Day. I feel good about this, although it has been emotionally taxing.....sad and happy.

Cooper and Bruce continued to help Ohio State long after their coaching days, hell for that matter so did Woody Hayes.

We just need to get the defense fixed but I have no answer for that. 12-1 is good though at this point! Win the Rivals game, division, conference, and no playoff. That's the way the ball bounces sometimes. 2012 Was unfortunate, as was a last second loss to Michigan State, but the planets did align in 2014.

All I have to say is Go West Ohio St.

Think Urban Meyer's plan of getting recruits out of Texas, Georgia and Florida ultimately wasn't enough.

Will be very interested on how this changes recruiting for Ohio St.
I have noticed they are putting a big emphasis on California and Arizona for the 2020 recruiting class.

Ohio State recruits everywhere .... that's what national powers do.

The only thing that might change recruiting wise would be if Day decides to put a larger emphasis on Ohio than Meyer did.

    I'm doubting it though.

Meyer was hired because those Ohio players couldn't compete against teams outside of the B1G.
So Meyer changes the recruiting of Ohio St.
There is a difference between cherry picking and having a need.

Without Meyer Ohio St's name doesn't carry the weight.
Ryan Day doesn't have two NC.
Plus Meyer is as ruthless of a recruiter as there was. He made sure to hit people in the face when Ohio St recruited elsewhere.

Ohio State is a blue blood. As such, they carry just as much "weight" as Texas.

If Day has a good first season, I wouldn't expect their recruiting to fall off much.

Difference is Texas can still have a class 100% from their state and still win outside of their conference.
Lately they have put more of an emphasis on recruiting out of state where things are equal.

Not saying Ryan Day will not be able to pull in Top 10 classes.
Saying that until he wins a NC Ohio St cannot claim to have a championship caliber program.
With Meyer they could with Day they cannot until he wins one.

What are you talking about? Ohio State recruited nationally before Meyer got there. You don't become an all-time Top 5 program by not recruiting nationally.

And the head coach is never the main recruiter ... he's the closer. Maybe Ohio State will miss on a recruit or two now because they don't have Meyer to close the deal ... maybe they won't. Who knows.

No ... no you can't. And if Texas's coaching staff believes this, they'll never win a title again. We're not living in 1960 anymore.

Yeah. Sure. Keep telling yourself that.

We'll keep pulling the best out of Texas. And Ohio. And Florida. You keep hiring our third best assistant coaches as your HC.

We'll see how that all works out.

That might be the case for Ohio St but it is not for Texas.
Only position the state of Texas did not produce high levels of was OLine.
Starting with the next recruiting class this will change.
