I do watch some Southland conference basketball but not that much.

Have 4 six team pods. First round 3 v 6 and 4 v 5. Second round 2 v 3/6 1 v 4/5. Final 1 v 2, winner goes on to final four.

Basketball is exploding in the state and something like this could raise the overall interest level, especially lower level schools.

In theory it is a great idea but if you have 16 teams that is at least 4 games.
That is 1/3 of the preseason schedule​

They already play them.
Plus they play TCU, Baylor and Tech 6 times.

Texas always plays 2-3 home games a year against the Southland schools from Texas and Louisiana.

Texas played in the Phil Knight memorial tournament last year
Played Butler, Duke and Gonzaga

Will play UNC and then either UCLA or Michigan St in Vegas this year

So they can pretty much play in any major Thanksgiving tournament in the country
