That’s cool. MSU gets to hang (another) Final Four banner for this season.
FF banners are meaningless, you either win it all or you dont. Fourth place ? Who cares.
That’s what someone who’s team never goes to Final Four would say.
It also happens to be the truth. The second best team often doesn't make the FF
My teams made plenty of final fours and it’s whatever. Lose in the E8 like losing in the F4. Sucks. Titles. National Titles. Those are some good banners.

And this is somehow more meaningful than actually making the Final Four? I mean you are "tooting your horn" about being the 2nd best team---though not making the FF. But in the same breath, calling making the FF meaningless...

Probably so, Boiler. I mean, no doubt Purdue was playing at a very high level. Also, no doubt had they hung vs UVA, they very could have made it to Monday Night.

Honestly, the separation between the top 7 or 8 teams is very, very thin. I think we saw that in the regional finals - 4 games that all came down to the wire. Duke is 3-0 against the two finalists. If you re-played the tournament 10 times, I doubt you'd have the same team win it more than two or three times. But that's what makes these games fun. Hoping for one last crazy finish.
I’ll agree with that. To me, it looked like Duke was just worn out. They were playing tired and hung on by a thread.
Eh. We easily could have lost to UCF or Virginia Tech. We lose to VT if Tre Jones, a very poor shooter from deep, doesn't connect on all those 3s. But we also could have very easily beaten MSU. We did some things poorly against MSU (turnovers, no transition buckets, overhelped on Winston), but we also did some things really well (rebounding, shooting). The margin between victory and defeat is incredibly thin. No clear-cut favorite this year like last year's tournament.
The only non-Final Four defacto national championship I can recall would be Michigan State/Iowa State in the 2000 Elite 8.
