Phil Steele's magazine is still about 2 weeks from being released, but he recently disclosed his playoff picks in a radio interviews. He opined that Alabama should win it all over the other most popular pick, Clemson, in the title game. His 4 playoff teams: Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Michigan. Steele expects both Alabama and Georgia to meet for the SECCG with undefeated records. Michigan, with Ohio State at home and with 5 returning on defense, is expected by Steele to field a great defense. He has Michigan favored in every game. In fact, I think he has Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Michigan favored in every game.

Interesting that Steele believes both teams in the SECCG will move on the the playoffs, He predicts a Georgia loss, but thinks a 1 loss Georgia, with only 1 loss to #1 or #2 Alabama in the SECCG, will still be in the top 4. This makes me question why he's not picking OU to make the playoffs.

A great defense? I’ll believe it when I see it. The D collapsed at the end of last year and now has to replace multiple All American/All B1G players...I just don’t see it.

After TexASS curb stomped Georgia by dominating the LOS i don’t expect much from Georgia this year....

Michigan I think is overhyped again, seem a like hairball just doesn’t have it. Seems to be wishful thinking.

Bama has a good shot unless Tua is injured again which is entirely possible and there is no Hurts to bail them out this time.

Clemson looks to be the favorite IMO. They have drafted well on defense and can replace those guys under Venables guidance and the Big 12 defense he installed at Clemson. The offense should be even better that the 70 year old WR just graduated.....

OU has to see the defense change result so that is why he doesn’t pick them in playoffs, but if the defense is improved to just average the Sooners win it all.

Ohio is a wild card. TexASS May surprise if Ehrlinger stays healthy , he was clearly injured when he stomped Georgia.

    Alabama and Georgia @ Auburn.

    Auburn gets one at least.

Take it to the bank: Michigan loses 3 games by the end of the season.

    They are overhyped once again.

I tend to agree. I know sometimes a team of no-names comes out of nowhere & mold together as a unit & play better than a cast of "hyped names" but as you say.....must see it to believe it.

I'm not ruling this out as a possibility. Very often Auburn seems to get their best results when little was expected.

Why not? No Michigan or Ohio State on the schedule and Martinez looked like the real deal when he played.

Edit: My bad. You guys do play Ohio State. But the rest of your schedule, all winnable games.

You can buy his Magazine now via your app and read today. He has Utah winning the P12 and playing in the Rose vs Nebby which honestly seems pretty out there but we will see...

Yeah and Nebraska. I think Utah will be a good team, probably win the South even but I would be surprised if they win the conference honestly. I think Nebraska will be much improved but they have a difficult schedule and something like 8-4 or 9-3 seems more likely IMO.

You put entirely way to much stock into a meaningless bowl game that has absolutely nothing to do with this year.

Utah and Nebraska in the Rose. Seems like a bold prediction....this may be one of those years when all the pre season predictions are out to lunch ...

So I guess he thinks the Wolferines get through Wisky, Iowa, PSU, OSU and the Domers with 1 loss?

    I got my doubts ...

My bad, was looking at his 2018 schedule analysis initially. He does say 2019 is easy basically 58.

Clemson had a great defense, not a bad defense, in 2018. It was #5 in total defense.

The last time a Big 12 defense finished in the top 10 in total defense was 2010. It surely has to be the only conference that cannot not field a top 10 defense 8 years in a row.

Of course Utah. They won the Pac 12 South last year with their 2 studs on offense missing the last 5 games in QB Huntley and RB Moss. They beat Oregon without Huntley and Moss. Utah has the best DL in the country. QB Tyler Huntley is going to take college football by storm this year. He is ready to explode.

So all offseason we’ve heard there is zero chance Clemson could ever go undefeated in the SEC, then the most prolific CFB predictor picks both UGA and Bama to go undefeated in the SEC?

BTW, I think there are a handful of teams that could go undefeated vs. Missouri’s schedule.

SEC lost a lot of credibility last year when their two best teams got embarrassed during bowl season.

A Big 12 team like a Pac 12 team, should have to go undefeated to make the playoffs
