how fine a line is there between critiquing a player and bashing the same? I have observed that some commenters are nearly too harsh. If there is a line, what are some of the applicable points of criticism and which should be verboten?

Our home board is a melt down right now, and that's really saying something.

If you say, "so and so sucks" and leave it at that. That's bashing and unacceptable IMO. If someone says that a certain player needs to work on some things on their game to become a good player, that is fair critique.

Obviously using specifics in your argument as to why a player is not good is the key to being constructive rather than a bone headed simpleton. ; )

You cannot criticize any player at all on Purdues home board.

Early in the season I was saying how Haas and Swanigan are both centers and dont fit together and Haas needs to come off the bench. The entire board called me an idiot and troll. Now, Painter has finally seen what i saw 2 games into the season and started bringing Haas off the bench and playing Haas and swanigan less together, and hes some sort of coaching genius.

Home boarders are the ****ing worst forms of casual know nothing slappies around.

I think common sense plays a big role. If you are going to all out bash a guy on your home board, you should expect a negative reaction.

But on the flip side, critiquing players on your home board can easily be viewed as bashing. I try to stay away from the home board during most game threads outside of viewing to satisfy boredom. And also after a loss. It can be embarrassing to see Duke fans bicker back and forth.

For me, I say what's on my mind and admittedly, that gets me into a lot of message board arguments. Haha. That's why I typically post here during game threads.

Anything short of namecalling or consistently trashing a player on merits other than their play (unless you clearly show some kind of vendetta) is allowed on the Syracuse board I frequent. I had a short ban once for going down the list of players mid-season on the Michael Carter-Williams team and listing all the things I hated about them. It was a deserved ban/suspension.

But as long as the primary focus of the trashing of a player is somewhat related to events on the court or within the program, you're pretty safe. The s**t that was dished out over Trevor Cooney was the pinnacle, but I don't think many/any members got banned for destroying him.

after a loss i stay off our home board
that is when every idiot and troll comes out of the wood work

there is nothing wrong with saying a player had a bad game or needs to work on certain things
but when you start saying a player sucks and just in general going over the top and too far, then the poster should get a timeout (that goes for every home board)

I only go to Radar for chuckles- no point in posting there. I have been known in previous years and on other boards to call Meeks fat. Is that so wrong?

Every year, Arizona's board picks one player and whines about him for the entire season. If we're unlucky enough, that player is a four year player and it lasts his entire freaking tenure.

There are usually at least three threads at any time about said player and the comments are divided between this player doesn't deserve a scholarship and this player should get more touches but it drives both parties crazy and never stops.

I gave everyone ample time to do it for me. If noone is going to, Ill step up and be the hero that does for everyone. I dont mind sacrificing myself a little for someone who deserves it(me).

Yeah, that is about where I'm at. I can't stand when people says someone sucks or shouldn't even be on the team or something like that. Say so and so should know better than to dribble up the court or x has to make better passes. The bashing bothers me.

You also said Mathias shouldn't be starting and was an awful defender.

He's the team's best perimeter defender and third in the conference in 3pt shooting and assist-to-turnovers. I wouldn't say you're batting 1.000.

Not sure what that has to do with not being able to criticize players on the home board but thanks for keeping me on my toes Cardinal!

This is an exaggeration... I frequent the home boards and I would be in full agreement with your take. Home boards get homer opinions and also the worst stupid criticism.

If the moo moo fits.... ;)

Seriously though, he's been very impressive with transforming his body. If he has nothing else after leaving UNC, at least he's no longer a large fat body.

Kudos on OP using a North Germanic word that doesn't need any translation to English.

    Edit so I don't lose a post:

When the Dildos of sports teams google, "Team X message board", they find their home boards. Then most just post there ad nauseum.

Players are often a reflection of their Coach.

College players arent paid. They get 5% of the criticism.
Coaches get the remainder of the criticism.
