If academics didn’t matter, give me West Virginia and Missouri. They add markets, but still fit within the region of our conference.

Lol why as a fan do you give a shit about markets? Does having Rutgers tickle you in the middle? Give me Kansas and getting to watch Kansas play against the Big Ten basketball schools 20 times a season over the Missouri market. Wtf

Yeah that’s fair, to be honest I know it doesn’t make much sense but I don’t love us expanding even further outside our already huge area this conference takes up. There’s no true sports reason I just like having the Big 10 be the Midwest conference and those 2 don’t go too far out of our region.

I would be pretty hyped if we added Kansas though.

If the B1G expands, we should not allow fans of the expansion teams in this thread.

I still look at the Maryland/Rutgers/Nebrasketball fans with disgust. Second class trash imo.
"I know I was thrilled when we added Rutgers." - No one ever.

What a terrible time to have Kevin Warren at the helm. He's shit the bed numerous times already, and letting the SEC get Texas would etch his failures in granite.

Yep, glad i stopped caring about football because this is going the way of college baseball(sec dominated) if ou and texas get added. SEC becomes a bigger draw every year to football recruits and it will only get bigger with ou and texas.

Any additions to the B10 will be based on Football. Basketball will have nothing to do with it. Michigan State played Wake Forest in a Bowl game in the middle of the afternoon a few years ago and there were more viewers of that game then the most watch CBB game which was a primetime UNC/Duke game.

Adding a Kansas l type would ultimately cost every B10 school money because it wouldn’t increase the revenue and split the pie more.

I’m speaking purely from what I’d enjoy as a fan.

This b1g fans are thinking way to georgraphic. If the b1g adds schools it will likely be acc schools like uva, unc, Miami, and FSU. That or it will be some type of funky merger type deal with the pc 12. That is if ou and Texas are off the table.

There are only a couple of pac 12 teams worth adding. 1) the viewership isn't there and 2) the location does matter to an extent.

I’ve said this before, but I agree with this. I think the league office’s best case scenario would be adding UVA and UNC. This is an oversimplification, but my understanding is that the league can charge a higher carriage rate for the big ten network if there is a member school in the area. This is the reason Maryland and especially Rutgers were added because they brought in income from DMV and NYC.

Virginia and UNC are both relatively high population states and they fit well with the academic profile of the Big Ten and have decent to good athletic teams. The Big Ten already tried adding a school purely for (former) football prowess in Nebraska, and I think they would admit that’s been a disaster. It’s the worst academic school in the league, it’s not in a high population area, and they’ve sucked at football.

The true value of Rutgers and Maryland has been the recruiting. Look at how many top players from NJ, MD, Northern Va are signing with B10 teams as compared to before those 2 programs joined ( Football)

Virginia and UNC would be a fit in that regards but not many care about their FBall programs to add revenue.

I’d be fine having our own thread. The civil discussion @RutgHoops @Noahtogo24 and myself would have obviously wouldn’t match this shit show, but it would be a change of pace.

I’m sure they aren’t accurate, but there is talk of USC and UCLA in talks with the Big Ten.

I say raid the Pac12 and the ACC:

USC
UCLA
Stanford
Oregon
Washington
Colorado
UNC
Duke
UVA
Clemson

24 team league and call it a day.
We might as well absorb the SEC as well and just change the name to the Division 1. Then we can split that into smaller conferences to make scheduling easier and meet up at the end of the year in a playoff to determine the champion.

Eh. There’s going to be a mad scramble once OU and Texas becomes official.

Not for the Big Ten. Not saying the conference won’t look to add but I feel very confident in saying there would be nothing in the Big 12 that would interest the conference.

I don't think this is accurate

What remaining B12 school do you think would entice the B10 and why? OU and TX are leaving because almost all the money generated by the B12 is because of those two schools and they decided they didn't want to keep putting millions in the pockets of schools that bring nothing to the table and you think the B10 would want to add the same dead weight TX/OU is running from just so they could give less money to their already existing members. Do you believe Illinois would be OK with taking say 8-10 million less a year from TV deals in order to get a home game with Kansas 3-4 times a decade?
