Any Michigan fand.....how many people are having a complete meltdown on your board right now? So far, after a quick glance on peegs, I've only seen 1 nuclear meltdown and a few other sourgrapes type posts. Tbh I was kind of surprised at how well it seemed the boards were doing.

Normal meltdown of Gradman always drags in Glass somehow as well

It’s not bad. Beilein has missed out on so many kids and gone on to develop unheralded ones that nobody really questions his recruiting to that level. With that being said, it would’ve been nice to land him

Would have certainly taken Carton, but he was the least excited I have ever been over a top 25 recruit.

By no means is he an average player. Huge get for OSU. However, Michigan will at worst trot out three top 100 kids in the backcourt. Senior Z who will likely be the best defensive player in conference. DDJ who will be a soph. And Jordan Poole.

Carton would have taken Michigan from a top 8 team to a top 5 team....nationally.

Just stop bro...sounds like sour grapes. Tip
Your cap to osu and move on. Well be ok without him, but would’ve been better with him

this is basically the type of stuff were seeing on the iu boards. It's the typical passive aggressive thing and its annoying. What I'm not understanding is every single iu fan who comes to these boards knew we were probably trailing slightly. I don't get why someone would get upset that he didn't pick when you knew he probably wouldn't.

Yes. Huge get for OSU. This is much more an OSU gain than Michigan loss.

With that said, I will reiterate that Carton is the difference between Michigan being top 8 in 2020 as compared to top 5.

The margin is that slim given Michigan's roster.

Good get for OSU. Not sure how I feel about this for MSU though.

UM will be targeting Rocket Watts even heavier, someone that the general feel was that he was pretty split between UM and MSU bit is now leaning more MSU because of the Carton recruitment. Hope that can stay in our favor.

Could help with another guard we are going after though, Harland Beverly.

Word is watts dad wants him at um but his inner circle doesn’t. Seems to me he’s another Detroit kid that is for sale. I’ll be pretty surprised if he ends up at um or MSU.

This whole time I felt Osu made the most sense but UM fans always seemed so confident.
I, for one, never completely bought it. Depth chart matters, alot. I couldnt get past that aspect. This was a depth chart decision and the kid prob thinks hes a one and done and at OSU he starts and plays 35+ mins a game from day one.

Dont think so. We dont seem to be pulling out the stops for Watts and havent even offered Beverly. They both may be headed out of state, if not for MSU.

The thing is, he’s not being very nationally recruited.

Also, he decided to not go to any prep school or national academy, he’s staying at Old Redford(Detroit area school), which was good news for the local schools.

From what I’ve heard, the top 3 at the moment are MSU, UM, and Louisville.
IMO, not really a plan A guy for either school. But he’s a solid top 60ish guy.

If either school put all of there energy into him from day 1, I believe he would be committed. Now that UM lost out on Carton, he is there plan A at the moment.

Not a huge reaction but disappointed. Beilein has the program humming and repeated Plan Bs and C’s turning into NBA players has taught most of us to just trust Beilein. Hardaway, LeVert and Burke to name a few.

How do you know it was depth chart related?

I wasn’t talking about UM and Beverly. I know OSU is recruiting him, so it could help with our chances now that they lost another scholarship to give, and they probably won’t take a combo guard

The intial intel coming in wake of the Carton decision suggests he is not but it is still early. The next week or two and we should know for sure.

He is UM’s plan A PG recruit at the moment. Who else at that position are they recruiting heavier is rated that high?

The thing is they dont need a PG. They need a big wing and Watts isnt that either. Carton was just so good and talented that they went after him despite him being a PG. Make sense? A replacement for Mathews becomes a priority now. Esp if Poole blows up and jumps. Austin Crowley from Mississippi is a name already popping up.

Hmm, good point. I assume Carton would have came off the bench though, as would Rocket.

I’d take Rocket Watts over David Dejulius any day of the week imo. I’ve been extremely impressed every time I watch Watts and Dejulius has shown me not nearly as much, in almost every aspect, except maybe ball control. Pretty equal on defense, but Rocket is the much better all around offensive player.

David also has a year on Rocket.

Would have been interesting to see which way they would have gone if they had been in same class. DeJulius def benefited from being a year ahead although that's not saying Watts is better. Have no idea on that. Will say DeJulius is college ready, physically. Looks like a tank already and he can shoot. I think he will play this season.

We have 3 PGs already on the roster and a combo guard. OSU desperation for a PG is well known. It isnt hard to figure out. Doesnit really matter? Buckeyes got him. What do u care? Lol

Was just curious how you know what Carton’s reasoning was and even spit out specifics of how much playing time he’ll get at Osu.

If this kid is as good as advertised he would play significant minutes at either of the three schools and I’m confident he knows that.

As far as his reasoning goes, it really seems that the biggest factor was who he was going to be playing with. He just hit it off apparently.

Yeah, I'm really surprised that theres so much chatter out there about playing time being such a concern for him. It's not like any of the teams will have a melo Trimble or yogi Ferrell as a junior or senior. Assuming this rumor is true, and he really did have big concerns about it, it makes me wonder in the back of my mind if he has some confidence issues.?

But who knows, it maybe something as simple as since he grew up in iowa, he wanted the biggest city environment he could find out of the 3. Usually when we lose a player like this, my interest in him goes to zero quick. But there are so many wtf moments and questions, its making me look really forward to his first real interview about why OSU in particular.

John Cynn an IU guy heads up at the final table of WSOP main event. 8.8 million on the line. Hell of a final table and heads up

Cynn is such a good player. Completely different level than Miles(as the commentators and experts have noted), would take a great deal of luck for Miles to battle back and win this.

It’s been a lot of fun to watch. Cynn just made a terrible (tough) call. He has him but man it’s tough not to call with the Jack there.

Wife is going to be pissed when I am still up at 5:00am PST watching poker.

This has been one hell of a heads up match. Looked like Cynn was just going to run him over with small pot after small pot but at some point, Miles found his balls.

There are at Michigan players that I’ve seen and thought were absolute studs and was mad we didn’t get them.

David Dejulius is not one of those players. Playmaking wise he isnt that great. The only aspect of his game that I thought was quite good was his attacking the basket, which will be a lot harder to do in college.

I think later into his career, he’ll be good. Beilein is a great coach. But right now, I am not extremely impressed with his game.

Everybody knows Michigan’s bench would start at most other B1G schools. Kids going to be a star.

Is that expected? He didn't score in double figures in the last 10 games, and hit only 4 of 20 from 3 in that stretch.
Very real possibility IMO. Inch for inch, lb for lb I think he is the most talented and explosive player on the roster. Beilein is a system coach and u must play his way and understand his system. He was a bucking bronco that needed to be tamed and he was a typical freshman defender. Couldn't guard his own shadow, which limited his time. The earlier Beilein wouldn't have played him at all but he has eased up in recent years on playing young players that make mistakes or bone headed plays...a little. He's a dynamite shooter and one of the few on the roster that can create off the dribble. I could be wrong but I expect him to be the second leading scorer on the team, at least and be just behind Simpson in assists. I really think he is the kind of kid that could do well with a coach like Calipari or others that don't have a strict offensive system. He's a pick up ball star type player. Will be interesting to watch but I expect a lot from him, esp since he is about the only true 2G on the roster.

I can understand this take. It's not as tho he was a top 50 kid and doesn't have the obvious size or elite athleticism. But he is built like a man already and can shoot. Prob a nice back up this season and then a typical carreer that is a productive upper classman for Beilein. We need shooting pretty badly and if he makes shots, he will play. Really strange to think that Michigan lacks proven shooters under Beilein but that is the biggest weakness going into the season, by far.

We don’t live in a world of expected anymore. Stauskas and Wilson both made unexpected NBA jumps so it’s on the back of our minds with guys with potential going forward.

Regarding Poole, most Michigan fans think he will be a big time scorer at some point. His true freshman season where he was the 7th / 8th / 9th man doesnt showcase him. I think he averages double digits this year after not much last year.

I was completely unimpressed with Jon Teske and Zavier Simpson their freshman years. Completely different players now. By the time DeJulius would have to start (barring injury) I think he’ll be just fine.

But Ohio State handed him the keys to the offense from day one. (His own words). That wasn't happening at Michigan and prob not at Indiana (from day one). Yes, lots of factors go into it but the depth chart question is where OSU had a very obvious edge on the other two schools. And Columbus is a big city. Another clear difference from Bloomington and Ann Arbor. That might have played a role too. Bottom line is five star kids want the NBA and want the most playing time they can find as a frosh. Michigan has a senior Simpson, a soph DeJulius and a junior combo Brooks in front of him. This was exactly the reason why I was very skeptical and worried about OSU. In fact, I would have told him to pick OSU for this reason.

I'm not a Michigan fan, and I feel confident in saying that PT would be an issue for them (from an unbiased point of view). Carton will get more PT at OSU than he would have competing against Z(X)avier Simpson at UM. And I guarantee you that was part of the pitch by OSU.
