*Official* B1G Off-season Thread

wait'll you see my party tricks

My only counter would be Torvik had 6 Big teams in the final Top 50 last season
(ESPN's BPI also had 6)
This season Torvik projects 11 Big teams in the top 50.
(I don't nec agree, but that's just one man's computer nerd rankings)

so there's at least hope that the middle is much improved.

When are we seeing these party tricks? And do I need to RSVP?

Well, keep your eye on Twitter should Kansas win it all.

The Mister threw away the couch I have been wanting to burn for the past 2 or 3 seasons, so that celebration is out.. :eek:RollLaugh

Thanks for the time and effort..

In a normal season, yes 4 more loses and 7 less wins would be a step back. But with how bad the conference was last year, I don't think its nearly as big of a drop off as normal. My view simply maybe from judging the conference to harshly last year.
In the last AP regular season poll, the Big Ten had #5 MSU, #7 Michigan, #11 Purdue and #17 Ohio State. In most preseason polls, I not sure I've seen more than 4 Big Ten teams and in no poll were those 4 all in the top 17. I'm not sure where you are seeing the Big Ten being so much better this year. The middle might be a little better but I'm not seeing it substantially better.
You very possibly could be correct here. I don't think the BIG will be looked at one of the top conferences next year. And I still think that it will be below the average of the past 30 years. My thoughts are because of it being so bad last year....not because I think it's great now.

Besides the 4 teams you mentioned, everyone else was horrible and even those 4 I felt weren't a final 4 caliber team. Once the season started (not talking about preseason polls) the only time during the season I felt we had a team on that level was Purdue during their long win streak.

This doesn't mean I think this year the conference has a team good enough to make the final 4. But, I do think overall from top to bottom its stronger.

Yeah, I got into an argument with a guy about this. Apparently, there's no way that NW can finish below 90th KP because they're ranked mid-40s by Torvik.

The kid played for basically what was the worst team in the country for two years. I am taking a wait and see
I will say I’m encouraged by how much Chris Mack wanted him at Xavier to help replace their production and then wanted him to follow him to Louisville.

Any idea what Torvik's projections were prior to last season?

In the preseason last year, Torvik had 10 Big Ten teams in the top 52. Maybe Torvik's preseason projections just suck?

IU improved their standings last year after losing three players to the pros.
Weird how they try and spin things. IU finished better in the B10. I said 6-9th and a bubble team. I thought we'd be on the right side of the bubble but was wrong. Everything else I was right.

It's interesting how it is spin when an opinion contrary to yours but fact when an opinion that you are in agreement with. Solid stance there.

Do you really think wasn't really bad last year?
It was the 4th straight year that KenPom has had the Big Ten either 4th or 5th among power conferences. Maybe it's the Big Ten's new norm?

Unfortunately it's been looking like this.

Honestly, I think a lot of Purdue fans wont admit how bad the conference was last year because then it's like your devaluing what Purdue did last year. I completely understand because I went around for the longest time after the 13 season doing the same.

If I said it was a weak year, then indiana's big championship and record didn't mean as much. Even though that year all the conference really had was Indiana and Michigan. Eventually I realized that it was stupid to think like that. Because they would have been good in any conference that year.

Imo Purdue was the same way last year. Imo at one point in the season I really thought they were hands down the best team in the country. They would have been successful in any conference last year.

We're in a B10 thread. Talking about the B10. When discussing predictions from last year IN THE B10, I feel it's appropriate to talk about prediction made ABOUT THE B10. Yeah, such a crazy stance. Sucks for you guys who like to constantly harp on how "wrong" I am or was when evidence points to the contrary.

I think it helps p5 teams because high school rankings play in to his algorithms.

I do like to use his top 25ish vs mine and others.

We're listed 2nd. Is that bad?
I'd take it as a sign you'll be much, much better than last season. But, you already knew all that.
He did have Purdue second in the b1g last season..?! ;)

Where are my posts about how wrong you are? I'll hang up and wait for your response.

it’ll be a transition year but with Carsen (who I think should be preseason BTPOY), who knows? I think tournament is definitely attainable.

With Carsen back, I think if you all don't make the tournament something went horribly wrong during the year.

Right now the backcourt is a little thin at PG. Isaiah Washington is the only true PG. At SG, we have two Seniors though. Dupree McBrayer and grad transfer, Brock Stull. If we don't add anyone else, I suppose McBrayer and Coffey will share backup PG duties. Need Washington to stay healthy, otherwise we are in a conundrum.

I like your roster. On paper it is better than Purdue.

Unfortunately, Dick Pitino is the head coach.

To be fair, aren’t you the one that does the exact same thing but from the other side of the coin?
Umm no not at all. You couldn't be more wrong. I don't visit their board. Any purdue board you visit will know snu for his widely known reputation as a troll. Only iu people that know me are here. My name is a play on some guy who used to post on g&b under the name johnnyboiler who was an obvious iu fan.

He has been and will continue to. I’ll lose to Purdue twice in the regular season every year if it means winning the conference tournament title and making the final 4.

When you’re a Purdue fan you set your goals a little lower apparently.
Also an expert on Purdue fans...your talents are limitless.

Good Morning my disciples of the Big Ten on this blessed day. Here is a nugget of wisdom from Hebrews 12:2.

Fixing our eyes on Jesus Bohannon, the pioneer and perfecter of 3 pointers. For the joy set before him he endured rival fans, scorning their jeers, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of Fran.

The word of the lord.

I really hope you're wrong. The top might not be as sexy (looking, yet), but the middle is so much better (imo).
We will see, hopefully everyone stays healthy as that definitely hurt a lot of teams last year.

On an unrelated note, is Malik Hall a priority recruit for Kansas? A top 50 player from Kansas I would expect to be a KU lock, but everything I've read so far has Oregon leading. He's spoken pretty highly about Purdue, but I'm not holding my breath against Altman, and definitely think we'll be out if Self pushes hard for him. Curious what you've heard from the KU boards/insiders.

It seems like they are taking the approach of Hall is a plan b or c for them. They know that theres a good chance when they offer he commits right after. If this is the case, they are waiting to see what happens to their plan a options.

Right now its looking like they are leading for both Hurt and Robinson-Earl, and of course they are a bigger get. This is similar to how Indiana is approaching 2020 Leal. Hes not in the top echelon of recruits, so they haven't offered yet, but probably will in the end. He's going to probably commit on the spot, so what's the point to offer yet when you're still trying to make a bigger splash.
