*Official* B1G Off-season Thread

Even more praise coming out about Aaron Henry. Says dude might end up being a starter this year at the 3. He is extremely aggressive with a nice shot and can attack the basket well. Pretty athletic. Just all around pretty good.

I'll believe the bold when I see it in games. He is going to be a good player. Not sure what that says about Michigan State if he is starting though.

Can you show me a post where someone has said there won't be a step back? Because most every Purdue fan expects a step back from last year.
Honestly? Seems like the majority of the free board (I know, but that's what we're talking about here) thinks you'll be a top three/four type team. That, to me, isn't really a step back. Your question makes me believe you don't think that is a common stance.

Currently, theres a prediction thread on purdue's free board that has many people saying that they will finish in top 5 next year. And even a few are saying #1

Since the BIG was down last year, it's not unreasonable to think that a #5 finish wouldn't be a huge step back from last year.

I'm seriously not trying to throw a jab with my question. I genuinely was wondering if there was something I missing since I don't follow them.
They're a sensitive bunch. But I guess that's the SOP for Purdue fans.

Yup....just like I also read all of the other BIG teams boards when they have one. I also check out at least 15 non BIG conference teams.

So.....what's you're point?

Obviously we'll have to see how he performs in real games and not moneyball.... but at this point I am more excited about his ability to drive over his ability to shoot 3's anyway.

We have good 3pt shooters: Cassius (49.7%), Langford (40.4%), McQuaid (39.1%), and possibly Foster Loyer (but he's small).

We need someone who can consistently get to the hoop and draw fouls.

Look, I love to rib the B1G, but if Purdue finishes top 3 this coming season, I'll be forever impressed.

The b1g looks to have some real talent this season.
Nebraska
Michigan
Maryland
Indiana
Michigan State
Wisky
Minnesota
Iowa

Ohio State with some young talent, and Penn State …. will still win some.
Top 6 would be respectable for sure.

I'm blessed that you included Minnesota. Couldn't think of a higher honor. ;)

While I don't know much about your backcourt, I really like a few of your pieces down low.
Really hoping everyone can stay healthy this season, have a good showing and Lil Ricky can start pulling in more and more talent up there.

But she put you right next to Iowa.

I really do think Iowa has the talent.
With how craptastic the b1g looked pre-season last year, Iowa looked like a heavyweight.
Another year, more talent... meh, it's the offseason.

Right now the backcourt is a little thin at PG. Isaiah Washington is the only true PG. At SG, we have two Seniors though. Dupree McBrayer and grad transfer, Brock Stull. If we don't add anyone else, I suppose McBrayer and Coffey will share backup PG duties. Need Washington to stay healthy, otherwise we are in a conundrum.

So when over 60% of the people in this 2 page thread said that Purdue would finish in top 5 and even had a few who said #1....that's considered a "few outlier posts"?

next season predictions.

Well you spend more time on the Purdue free board than I ever have, so I'll just have to take your word for it.

Serious question, do you really not enjoy going to see what's up on other teams boards? I would think that everyone who spends time here would like doing it.

Nah. I'm exclusively here, occasionally glancing at the recruiting board (which is basically dead), and the Purdue premium board. There's usually enough diversity of opinion from B1G fan bases here that I don't need to read a bunch of homer takes on team free boards.

That's a shame on the recruiting board. It used to be pretty good. I do like that the 247 recruiting guys do a weekly chat on their main board. I took advantage of a 5 week trial over here, but had not checked out that board yet.

Well, you started with this which is clearly hyperbole:

But if you go to their site theres countless people saying that its going to be a top 3 finish for them.

You then backtracked when people called you out and reverted to top 5. I think top 5 is possible because outside of a couple of teams, I think there are pretty significant question marks about everyone in July. As the season nears, some of those questions will be answered. Some will not.

Haha. An accurate caveat. And in those cases, it's because someone on the premium board links to the free board thread.

Yeah, it's too bad Corey and Eric don't pump a little more life into that board, especially since it's a premium feature. I'd look at doing 247, but the Purdue site isn't nearly worth the investment on that side of things. But if GBI ever switched like Peegs, I'd be switching my membership.

Finishing 4-6 would be a step back from last year, just for clarity.
Do you really think finishing 5th in the BIG THIS YEAR in a much stronger conference, is a big drop off from last years results in a historically bad conference?

Personally, I don't believe there would be much difference in regards to how well the team played if they would finish 5th this year compared to tied for 2nd last year. Simply because the conference was arguably the weakest ever last year.

Do you know if that has been discussed? A lot of team websites have made that move over the past couple of years. CBS dumped a lot of money into 247.

Your correct, I honestly thought I had said top 5 in original post. It wasn't an intentional backtrack.

Thanks for actually answering my original question. Who do you all need to step up next year to get into the top 5? Of course, Carsen and Haarms, but who else will need to make a major jump from backup role player to major contributor?

The reason I even thought about this was after looking at the thread I linked, I started to wonder who they'll get enough points from.

Time to get back to more important topics....TV series.

Has anyone else watched the Cobra kai show on YouTube Red?

I saw 1 person (last post) that had Purdue as #1 and FWIW, 5th is not unreasonable, especially for a free board. Apart from IU and Michigan, the B1G doesn't have many uber-talented rosters, and I don't see the conference as a whole being better next year than it was last year.

I'm not saying it was unreasonable...I know since it's a sports forum everyone is expecting every comment to be a dig, but it really wasn't. It was a serious question about what was I missing to warrant those expectations.

I think the conference will be considerably better next year. I'm not saying that it will be historically great, but it should be a lot better than last year. But that has more to do with last year being imo historically bad.

I've got a question for the Purdue fans.. I'm seeing a lot of excitement for this year and it seems a lot of fans are thinking that there wont be a huge step backwards this year. When you all lost so much last year what am I missing? I really think that you all are going to struggle next year.

Theres some interesting players on the team that have nice potential. But besides Carson, it's all unknown going in.
Damnit people you helped @SNU0821 set up a burner account.

Damn theres some sensitive people here today.

I didn't realize that thinking when a team loses 4 starters to graduation there would be a big fall off the next season is such a big deal.

Note taken.
