***Official B1G In-Season Thread***

Wonder if MSU can climb to a 3 or 2 seed, if they keep winning. Still need to play @ #20 PSU, and then have #19 OSU at home.

Not sure they'll even win those games, but it seems crazy to me that MSU is loved by computers but still only considered a 4-5 seed. Dayton's best win is... #31 NET St. Mary's, who is projected as an 8-9 seed. Why are Louisville, Florida State, and Oregon all ahead of MSU?

I absolutely love Lunardis bracket. Has MSU as the 4 with SDSU as the 1, Dayton as the 2, and Dook as the 3. Don't love having to possibly play auburn in florida but the SEC is trash this year outside of UK. Don't ever want to see Dook, but they haven't looked good lately and it would be in the E8 if it would happen.

Dayton is the only team in college basketball that hasn't lost a game in regulation. Two overtime losses. That's it. And I think winning on the road at VCU, Richmond, and Saint Louis is more challenging than beating Saint Mary's on a neutral court.

Hearing possibly Caleb Furst announcing for Purdue today. Would be a massive get.

That would be a great get for Purdue. I was hoping that with Lander playing with him this spring/summer, IU would be able to make a few more inroads. Him and IU just never had as good as a relationship as he had with Purdue/Michigan State.

Love the top in-state talent staying in-state. Would Kaufman pursuit end then for Purdue? Purdue only has a couple of spots if I remember correctly in that class.

Yep would think it’d end. Think it’s not only the limited spots but also the discussion around Furst and Kaufman not ending up at the same school. Have heard that for a while now.

Very different players too that would compliment each other well, in my opinion.

We have been told to not be surprised if the top 4 kids in 2021 (Lander, Furst, Kaufman, Wesley) all end up at different schools.

yes would probably end things for Kaufman as they're wanting to play the same position. Probably focusing on Harrison Ingram who by all acounts had a great time this past weekend on his official. Would be an unreal class if we got both of them.

Certainly never a problem to get two top 40 highly ranked 4 star kids under the belt.

Edit: Ingram being a 5* on Rivals

Oh you’re not wrong re them complimenting each other. But it’s back to the Newman/Franklin debate right? Lol. Can they complement each other and play together? Absolutely. Do they want to? Probably not haha.

It’s very possible we finish the season #2 in the B1G ( or, share of B1G title) and end up an 8 seed. Fvck that noise. I guess our non con is really coming back to haunt us

A loss is a loss, doesn't really matter if it was in 40 minutes or 45. I get that they played KU close, but still... their resume is pretty weak, overall.

That @ Richmond (who is likely not an NCAAT team) is the only game they've played against a NET Top50 team (and they are #48), since their loss to Colorado on December 21st... VCU isn't a tournament team either. St. Louis isn't even close to a tournament team.

So congrats that they've beaten one single tournament team, and lost to the 2 other tournament teams they've played. They're on an 18 game win streak, 18 in a row against non-NCAAT teams.

I personally have been higher on Kaufman than Furst. However, being a legit player for Ingram (who I thought was taking a token visit for the most part) changes things and makes me think Furst is a better fit. Ingram looks similar to Malik Hall in that 3 / stretch 4 mold, but not having great quickness, so I think he'd be a little redundant with Kaufman. Plus, if Furst is on board to play some 5, I think that's where he can be really, really good.

And speaking of Ingram, it sounds like that visit went very well.

I'm really pleased if this news turns out to be Furst (which it is). If we can somehow add Ingram, this would be massive back to back classes for Painter when you combine the fact that Newman + Gillis RS puts them in there as well.

Having Ivey/Morton followed by Furst/Ingram would be insane.

Both really good players in Furst and Kaufman take the first one who wants to commit and go from there

I went to the Gold & Black free board, and should have know it was a mistake before I even typed it in. I was trying to get info on Furst, but half the threads and conversation are about IU.

Free & homeboard should be banned.

Yeah agree. Both are very good targets, just like Kaufman's skill-set for our system a lot.

But I really expected to have no traction with a couple of the 2021 kids we were after, so Kaufman always felt like a must have to me. If Ingram is in play, then Furst makes a ton of sense.

Purdue potential 2021: Furst and Ingram
Indiana potential: Lander (who might reclass) and Mohammed ( plus Kaufman?)

Lots of talent for both.

I do think Lander will reclass and would still be around for that second season as well

I mentioned those game because they're Quad 1 matchups. Winning at Indiana or Minnesota is much tougher than beating Rutgers or Illinois on a neutral court, right? Same thing for Dayton. 3-0 on the road in Quad 1 Games is impressive. And, of course, their efficiency numbers put them in the top 10 for every computer ranking.

I am not disagreeing about what is considered a Quad 1. I'm saying, do they really deserve a 1 or 2 seed, when they've literally only played 3 tournament teams (and lost 2 of those 3 games)?

Their KenPom efficiency is almost the same as MSU's, but MSU has played the #10 SOS while Dayton has played the #103 SOS.

I feel like the B1G teams are getting dinged for playing a gauntlet of consecutive Quad 1 games, while other teams are skating by without playing nearly that difficult of opponents.

Totally agree. And I think it's reasonable for someone to believe Dayton might be the best team in the field, but not deserving of a 1 seed. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

Dayton is 11-2 in Quad 1/2 games. Michigan State is 12-9. I agree their schedule has been relatively soft, but they've been pretty convincing if you take their total body of work. Dayton is a very difficult team to guard. Toppin might be the best player in the country - and as a team, they shoot the ball very well. Their effective fg% is 59.7%, which leads the nation.

The Big Ten likely getting 10 teams into the dance. And Purdue at 15-14 is still on the bubble. I'd hardly call that being dinged. You have a higher margin for error because of the strength of the conference.

Iowa moves to the 5 seed by Joe, will take it. still want it in the West, Although if they can play in Omaha in the Midwest that would not be a bad draw either.

I don’t even know why I pay attention to recruiting updates. I thought Furst was destined for Virginia or MSU the way it sounded. & it seemed Purdue was the favorite for Kaufman for some time right along with Xavier. I’ll obviously be thrilled to have either of them though.

But they are getting dinged, relative to seeding.... MSU just won @ NET #15 Maryland (tougher than any single road game Dayton has even played all year, and not even MSU's toughest away game) and beat Net #29 Iowa the game before.

Dayton is 4-2 in Quad 1 games (of which, 3 are non-NCAAT teams)... MSU has played in 15 total Quad 1 games. MSU has won more Quad 1 games (7), than Dayton has even played in (6). MSU played more Quad 1 games in February, than Dayton did their whole season.

Dayton deserves a 2-seed because they beat St. Mary's, and lost in OT to Kansas and Colorado - all months ago? That's literally the only 3 NCAAT teams they've played.

And this isn't even about Dayton specifically, what about Louisville - why are they seeded higher than MSU? Or Florida State?

Florida State's best win is Louisville, twice. They lost to Duke, and those 3 games are the only Top-30 NET games they've played in all season. They've also lost to Pitt, Clemson, and Indiana.

Louisville's best wins are Michigan and Duke, and they've lost to every other Top-50 NET team they've played (besides Virginia, who is #50). They also lost to Clemson and Georgia Tech.

I never thought Furst was that into Purdue, despite reporting that we were in a solid spot.

I've requested that more than a few times. With as active a premium board as Purdue has, there is no reason we should have a free board.
