More disappointing up to this point

Duke for me but that's mostly because I'm a fan. On the other side though Duke has a shot at turning it around because they're really talented, UK... Not as much.

Duke has a chance to win because they have the best frontcourt in college. That backcourt though is yikes, especially offensively. Duval is not a good point guard at all.

Kentucky just sucks. No cohesion. No elite talent. Bad coaching overall.

Yeah Duval and Allen need to get their shit together. Trent has been good offensively, no one has been good defensively.

UK is nit bound. I'm kind of glad. Sometimes you gotta take steps back before you can move forward.

Another season like this was only a matter of time IMO. Cal is a great coach but I think he got arrogant at a certain point and really believed this couldn't happen again. Hopefully this wakes him up.

Kentucky probably loses next week at Auburn as well. 17-9? Anybody not named Kentucky doesn't get in the tournament with a similar record.

Kentucky has only disappointed me once this year, that was in late December.

For those saying Kentucky is NIT bound, look at the college basketball landscape, everybody’s losing. Kentucky would almost have to lose out not to make it, .500 ball the rest of the way will get you in.

Easily us. Duke has hit a rough spot but they'll be fine. We legitimately are looking at not making the tournament if something doesn't change this week.

The answer to the OP depends on who you are a fan of. I have been more disappointed in Duke because I am a Duke fan. But I don't think all hope is lost for the season so I don't know how disappointed I should be. I really don't know much about Kentucky this year, but from the way their fans talk, it must be a frustrating team.

Kentucky is absolutely not NIT bound. They will be in the tournament. I guarantee that.

In 2013 UK, the defending champs, were 21-11 and 12-6 in the SEC and were snubbed.

UK is now 17-8 and only 6-6 in the SEC with more losses to go and they are NCAA bound?

Didn’t realize they were 12-6 in conference the year they missed it but the SEC overall this year is a lot stronger. Auburn is clearly at the top but teams 2-13 there is a lot of parity. The NCAA overall this year seems weaker. 10-8 in the SEC is going to get them in the the tourney before SEC tourney play, 9-9 may even do it.

Record aside, UK was a letdown from the jump with two players out.

Despite being young, UK usually has a player or two step up and lead. I just don’t know if that is going to happen this year. That’s the biggest disappointment.

Kentucky. I know Duke fans are disappointed, but our team don't have a clue, and the coaches are just as stupified..Team can't shoot a lick, can't pass a lick, not having fun, looks confused, extremely low basketball IQ. And all Cal seems to know how to do is run up and down the floor screaming his head off.

I’m with you. I think they are in danger of not making the field. Lots of tough games left as well.

As a fan for me it’s UK but as far as pre season hype and all that it’s Duke. I thougt Duke would lose around 3 to 4 games and win it all. I still pick them to win it but I think everyone including coach K sees that Cal doesn’t just get the top guys and roll the balls out. A lot more goes into it than that.

I don't think K is rolling the ball out either.

as bad as it hurts me i have to disagree
i think if we lose two more regular season games we will be on the wrong side of the bubble and it will take a good run in the SECT to make it

we just look discombobulated

I do not agree. As bad as it would suck not to have Bagley, Carter and Bolden can take the load off of his loss. What will give Duke a shot is better and more consistent guard play on both ends.
I dunno, several of the games I have watched this year Bagley carried them virtually by himself. UVA would've blown them out if not for Bagley, IMO.

I agree with letsgo, if Duke has a weakness it is definitely at guard. Bagley is a star, but Carter can hold his own. Bolden is alright. Allen and Duval have been very disappointing up to this point, though.

Yeah, I agree, Carter in particular is an absolute MONSTER, one of the best bigs I've ever seen at Duke. As some perspective...

Wendell Carter Jr (Freshman year): 14.4 pts, 9.4 boards, 1.8 assists, 2.2 blocks, shooting 61% from two and 47% from three.

Elton Brand (sophomore year, when he won the Naismith Trophy for NPOY): 17.7 pts, 9.8 boards, 1.1 assists, 2.2 blocks, shooting 62% from two and 0 percent from three.

So the difference between Carter and NPOY and future NBA All Star Brand is about 3 points more for Brand and one assist more for Carter. That's pretty incredible, considering Wendell is sharing the court with maybe the best freshman in Duke history and plays slightly fewer minutes than Brand did.

No. I understand your point but I never understood comparing stats from different teams and players. Brand and Carter are playing different schedules against different teams with different teammates which are also putting up different stats.

I could pull up a number of players that put up the comparable stats, but why bother?

I think you missed the point in comparing the stats. Carter is doing this while he has a teammate averaging 21 and 11. I believe his point was only to point out that Duke has someone that is more than capable of putting up numbers to make up for the loss of Bagley.

Yeah, just this. I think Carter gets overlooked quite a bit by people in the Duke storylines... "Bagley is so good!" "Allen has sucked!" "Duval hasn't been good!" etc etc. But losing Bagley, while it sucks, isn't the end of the world for Duke, and I could imagine us doing just as well, in terms of wins-losses, while he is out because Carter is an absolute beast down low.

What 32 at large teams will be ahead of you? The bubble is going to be really weak this year.

The argument could be made that Bagley protects Carter. Carter is a huge talent, but you can't win it all without Bagley
