Memphis Considering Penny Hardaway

I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up there or Ole Miss.

Who knows if Wisman will follow but this was comforting to read though;

A source tells Tucker that while many of Penny’s players would follow him, Wiseman’s got his mind made up.

“Some of these guys might,” said one person close to East High program, which has a half-dozen or more Division I prospects on the roster, “but James is going to Kentucky. That’s what he tells everybody.”

Well as comforting as anything in recruiting. :D

I'm sure if Wiseman follows Penny, UK fans will blame Capel and say he orchestrated this to make Cal look bad, amirite?

I hope this happens. Always been a big fan of Penny.
Have you seen the E:60 about him? Probably the best one I have seen. He got into coaching to help out his friend, Dez Merriweather, that had been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. They went from coaching a middle school team (won 3 straight titles I think) and then Merriweather took the head job at Memphis East, taking Penny with him. Merriweather passed about 3 years ago, and here we are now. Who knows if Penny ever would have coached if not for that.

I did see it. Such a great story. Honestly, I feel like this a complete no-brainer for Memphis.

Thank you Tubby Smith for resurrecting the dead Texas Tech basketball program. Thank you a million times over for bailing when you did so Chris Beard could take us to the next level.

Listening to Memphis radio this morning while getting gas, and it's all but said and done for Hardaway to become the next coach.

Said, it would break Memphis fans hearts if it didn't happen. Were actually rooting against UM today, and brought up the fact that it would be hiring a 46 year old first time coach, but Larry Brown would help a lot. Said that he would bring in some players with him, but not Wiseman. The guy they had on said to not even get any hopes up about Wiseman coming to UM.

When is he gonna commit to UK?

I don't know him personally. I would guess when he does commit somewhere, it would be between now and the spring signing period next year.

But it does look like Hardaway is going to be the next coach at UM, and Brown will be an assistant. They brought up him bringing in some other older guys but didn't mention names.

Also, said the announcement could be as early as next week.

Larry Brown? These ex player hires don't seem to work all that well. See St. Johns and Georgetown of late (although the jury is still out on Ewing).

What does that have to do with Larry Brown?
I didn't get his post as a whole, but rumors down here are that Larry Brown will join Hardaway as an assistant.

The sports radio down here are going to blow up if Hardaway isn't hired.

Off topic, but not off topic. Tubby has some words yesterday about transfers and how "we're teaching them how to quit. (click link in tweet)

For the lazy.

I can’t wait for Wiseman to commit to Memphis. The conspiracy theories and sheer butthurt from BBN would be priceless.

If that's what you get off on, then go for it.

What I posted is just what's coming out from people around him. Not the "BBN".

Not that I disagree that Tubby uses programs as stepping stones but he didn’t quit kentucky, he was pushed out the door and landed in Minnesota...

Capel called Memphis and told them to fire Tubby and to hire Hardaway so that Wiseman can go to Memphis instead of Kentucky. Capel is always doing stuff to make Cal look bad. He's a meanie and always orchestrating things behind the scenes to make Cal look bad.

Glad To hear Penny has a solid staff with experience lined up. I think that transition is going to be really rough for a few years.

The biggest question is, how patient will Memphis fans be? He’s one of their own, so they will hopefully give him some time.

I would guess they would be pretty patient. He's a Memphis icon... plus they have had to deal with Pastner and Tubby for the past 9 years. Anything is better than that. Laughing

In future news, the NCAA has penalized Memphis for recruiting violations and impermissible benefits. Seriously how is Larry Brown allowed near a college campus at this point?

Capel still up to his old tricks, I see
