Marquette upsets Illinois

Wouldn’t read too much into Marquette or Shaka, honestly. Don’t think I’ve seen Illinois play that poorly in years, and Curbelo single handedly lost that one. Inexcusably bad.

We have plenty of other issues to address, but MAN am I ready to get Kofi back! Lol.

Honestly, that wasn’t a well played game. Lots of missed free throws and turnovers down the stretch

Curbelo sucks a dong. Illini aint doing shit with selfish PG play like that. I dont care if they were missing Kofi. Underwood needs to run his ass till he can't run anymore.

Yeah, wouldn’t want to be Curbelo in practice tomorrow. At the same time, totally on Underwood for not calling the TO there. Just an all-around shlt game that we hopefully learn from.

Woof. That was a tough loss. Illinois was up 12 with 10 to play and it looked like they were gonna cruise. That's when the wheels fell off.

Can't get too upset when your top player doesn't play
After a good night's sleep, this is where I am mentally. Is this a "bad loss"? Of course. But we lost on the road to a terrible Mizzou team last year and lost to a subpar Maryland team at home en route to a 1-seed, so this is hardly a season ender. However, it has adjusted my expectations a bit, at least for now.

If we would have continued to look really good without Kofi - an absolutely essential piece to any team he is on - I would have maybe concluded that we are a top 10-15 team without him and possibly a top 5-8 team with him (at least by the end of the year). After last night, at least as of now, it is pretty safe to conclude that Illinois is likely around #20 or so without Kofi. Last night was uncharacteristically bad, and I don't think that's the "norm" for us without him. Adding him back will be huge. Frankly, it's probably for the best that these guys got some humble pie early without Ayo's mental toughness, clutchness and overall composure this year.

Did Marq play full court tempo? You play w/o your top guy, and if you're thrown into a game style you don't see much of most seasons, could see a bad performance.
