A couple dates for a year, she wanted to get married he didn't and they break up. She's angry about the break up. Two months later she discovers she's pregnant. She has the baby but never tells the father about the child for five years.

Should he be responsible for child support at that point? He has a family now.

Child support laws in this country are crappy on so many levels and they heavily favor the woman.

That being said that's all the more reason to use protection.

He should sue her for keeping the child from him for 5 years.

As a male, you have no say in if she aborts or carries to term, but the law holds child support over your head no matter the situation. System needs to be scrapped.

Can you cite three ways child support laws are “crappy“?

Is there more backstory as to why she didn't say anything?
I don't think she should expect anything.
But depending upon the circumstances I think he should try & do something for the child.....whether it be make a savings account for the child for graduation or for college or something else.

She did it out of spite because he didn't love her enough to marry her. I think he made the right choice. But now she wants to ruin his current family with this mess.

If he plays his cards right he could create some kind of Dom/Sub thing between him, his wife and baby mama.

My personal opinion is that he shouldn't pay any back support since he had no knowledge (if that can be proved or she mentions that). If he is paying support then he should get visitation rights from this point forward.

Depends on the state as far as what he's legally obligated to pay. Should he? No if he had no idea, but some states will require him to back pay if she has been on any assistance.

If he "didn't want anything to do with her", maybe he shouldn't have f-ed her.

Assuming he is the father, they are all equally his kids. Maybe he should take the money out of his own stupid mouth.

I'm sure he's made many financial decisions in the last 5 years that he might not have made had he known about this financial obligation. We don't have all of the information, but what if his salary is only enough to comfortably provide for two children and now he finds out that he has three? At the very least, he should have had been told about the child.

You get it. I said don't take any test unless you're forced to by the court. Why confirm anything?

Depends on whether he actually wants to know or just wants to get out of child support. Regardless he should insist on a DNA test if she petitions for child support and make sure any test is reputable whether or not it is court mandated. Obviously don't take her word for anything.

And yet you have all these women talking about abortion, it's my body, my choice.

So if they are not ready for a child, it's ok.... But if a man is not ready for a child, tough nuggies?

They're 40 years old for one. Back then men were the breadwinners while women stayed home. That's not the case anymore.

Two. Most men people call "dead beat dads" want to provide for their children but lack the financial resources to do so. The current system is a nightmare for low income parents.

Three. In most states if you fail to pay you will end up in jail. These same states view incarceration as voluntary unemployment. So while you're sitting in jail for not paying support your back pay continues to accumulate which leads to an unending cycle of debt.

They do not favor the woman. They favor the custodial parent whether sperm doner or incubator.

Court decisions on custody laws do favor women though.

I think you should be able to abort your parental responsibility as a man. Just like a woman can. If he "should've used protection" then so should she. And what if you did, Since, you know protection isn't 100%?
I think you should be able to sign away your rights within the first 5 months of finding out you are (or going to be) a parent. That includes zero child support responsibility. At least then maybe more women would choose wisely if knowing they guy they tried to trap isn't going to be there.

Agree with this. No back child support but if it's his child, then support going forward is a reasonable resolution.

Didn’t realize so many people are so self centered they think this about them... the person that has control over the situation, unlike the child that is completely dependent on the “adults” that conceived it.

Bunch of worthless people if you ask me.

How about no back support, and no future support for another five years as punitive damages against the deceitful mother? That'll learn her.

hmm. must depend on the state. you can sit out some of what you owe on child support in jail. many deadbeats chose this.

Im in favor of some of the stuff they are doing to collect child support from these guys, but other stuff im not.

    - If you get behind enough they can take you to jail. Ok, so maybe you were out of work for a period of time and got behind..........then when you do get a job they take you to jail for not paying when you DIDN'T? So now you lose the job you just got because you are in jail.

    - They take away/suspend your drivers license. I don't know about this one either? If you cant get to your job you will have to quit or you'll be fired.........a lot of places you cant take a bus and uber/lyft might be too pricey.

There are some guys out here that are truly shady in terms of hiding from child support. I know someone who has a minimum wage job he works 25 hours a week at just so they use that as the basis of how much he pays..............then he has a under the table job where he brings home 700 a week net. There are a lot of guys out there like that unfortunately.
