You get to pass on 1 team, Contender for 2, and Pretender for 2.

    Here are the teams

    Notre Dame

    Kansas

    UNC

    Iowa State

    Wichita State

I don't even actually believe what I'm saying for two of these, but I'll play by the rules so..

    UNC - Pass

    Notre Dame - Pretender
    Wichita State - Pretender

    Kansas - Contender
    Iowa State - Contender

Honestly, I think four of these are pretenders.

    Notre Dame-Contender

    Kansas-Contender

UNC-Pretender, though I guess I'll use them as my pass.

Iowa State-Pretender (unless they get to play their games at home)

    Wichita State-Pretender

personally, i think all of those teams are pretenders with maybe the exception of kansas...however i think they are pretenders as well

    ND plays no defense

    Wichita isn't that good IMO....

Kansas is too jekyll and hyde for me to think they have that much of a realistic shot...but i'd be nervous playing them fwiw

    Iowa State plays no defense

UNC can't shoot or and can't play defense that well

    Kansas- Contender
    Notre Dame- Contender

    Iowa State- Pretender
    UNC- Pretender

    Wichita State- Pass

I think Kansas is the only team of the bunch I think has a legit chance of winning the title. UNC has the talent, they just haven't put it all together. Something is missing there. Iowa State's best chance was last year before Niang went down. They might have made it to the championship game if he doesn't get hurt (I think they beat UConn).

I agree there is something missing. I think your comments about ISU is what frustrates some UNC fans so much. We were up on that team by 5 or so late in the game and that was with our second best scorer not playing because he was hurt. I think people underestimate how valuable McAdoo was for this team.

I think all five are pretenders, but to play by the rules:

    Wichita State - Contender
    UNC - Contender

    Kansas - Pass

    Iowa State - Pretender
    Notre Dame - Pretender

Of the five, Wichita State is the one I'd give the most serious look. I get that their resume is underwhelming, but I love their guards and I love their coach. You have a chance in March with those ingredients.

    Kansas - Contender
    Iowa State - Contender

    UNC - pass

    Notre Dame - pretender
    Wichita State - pretender

    This is pretty straight forward.

ND and Iowa St are both capable of beating anyone in a given game but they are both so bad defensively that they have no shot at a deep run.

Wichita St is too limited inside to win against decent teams with interior athletes.

KU and UNC have potential at least.

I'd say there are 3 pretenders here but ok...

Pass - WSU (they aren't even worthy of consideration)
Contenders - KU and UNC (so much talent)
    Pretenders - ISU and ND

What's the definition of Contender? Contender for the National Championship? Final Four? Sweet 16? Assuming it's for the Championship, I'd say all are pretenders.

    Playing by the rules:

    Notre Dame Pretender

    Kansas: Contender

    UNC: Contender

    Iowa State: Pretender

    Wichita State: Pass

I pass on Wichita St because I don't even think they're pretending to be a contender. I don't think they're even in the conversation.

If we could break the rules a little I think:

    ND Pretender
    Kansas Contender
    UNC Pretender
    Iowa St Pretender
Wichita St Not in the conversation

    is most accurate.

It's not even their resume, but they have 0 depth inside and have to shoot the ball well to do damage. Last years team was clearly much better. You had Early who was the best player on the floor and could play the 4 and then they had that 7' coming off the bench to give them minutes. This year they don't have either and are severely undersized. What happens if they play a team like Texas that has a ton of interior players and enough on the perimeter (imo) to slow down Baker/Van Vleet/Cotton?

^ You're right, I didn't realize how small they were. Their tallest starter is 6'7.
