Let the hate flow

Candidly, seeing some of the names on this list tells me a lot about the state of officiating across college basketball. These are supposedly the best there is and there are some really bad officials in that group.

BTW, for those wagering, just an FYI if Courtney Green ends up reffing the Purdue game. Purdue is 29-7 on the season and he was an official for our last 4 losses. The odds of that occurring......

Did the moron who called the tech on the guy on Illinois for dunking make the cut?

What about the clowns who butchered the final few minutes of the Iowa game?

Or the dummies who didn't call anything on Arizona when they tackled the TCU player at mid court at the end of regulation?

I don’t pay enough attention to who officiated to care. Kind of odd when people know their names tbh aside from Teddy and the one referee cats fans obsessed over and stalked.

2 of the 3 from UNC-Baylor have advanced and one is even in Carolina's bracket.

An addendum....

That tech on the dunk was so bad. I am surprised the other officials didn't come over and be like, 'WTF, dude, we are not calling that'.

And yeah, like others have said, two of the three from the UNC/Baylor game advanced. Just shows the NCAA really doesn't care about whether officials are good or poor.

Apparently one of the three refs in the UNC/Baylor game is a big UK fan who officiates a bunch of the UK scrimmages for Cal. He isn't allowed to officiate UK games in the regular season. I don't really have an issue with it (though the connection being that strong creates a lot of questions about the games he calls) but it goes to show how pro-UK officials generally are like we all suspected.

Good luck with Bo.

Good luck with Bo.
Boroski has been decent this year during Purdue games. He's not nearly as bad as Green and Carstensen (who thankfully someone else gets to deal with).

Going to be candid here, and a little off script----This list IS the exact reason I no longer care if I ever work another college game, basketball or baseball. MOF, told the wife, I am seriously considering working strictly nothing but HS baseball/basketball next year. At this level, its nothing but politics---and thats the truth. I know damn near the entire list----have worked with some. Have attended clinics, camps, etc, etc....with damn near 95% of them. Now do not get me wrong, huge majority of these guys are good---no doubt. But go back and look at the list for the past 10+ seasons----You'll see the same names. Its all based on a ratings system, eval reports, etc, etc....Onnce you are hired by an ACC, B10, SEC, B12, PAC12 or BE......you really, really have to **** up not to advance....My point?

How many officials you see on here that are hired, fulltime conference officials for the A-10, MVC, BE, OVC----or any mid-major conference?

Exactly. You damn near have to grade out perfectly if you are a mid-major conference official, to get an NCAAT game......And until you are hired to a P5 conference, good luck advancing in the NCAAT. You are likely gonna work a play-in game, 1st round game----then off to the NIT, etc, etc...

Guys are getting hired off their names, past success, etc, etc...I worked for 3 years in the GLVC----never finished worse than 10%-----got invited to a "mega-camp"($500), to "be seen". I made the Top 50 "watch list", and was assigned some D1 games, filled in for some conference games...Was told , "you are solid, almost there....little more work.....come back next year...." But the truth is, you are going to see the same guys over and over and over....Guys like myself when I first got into it? We were ATM's to these clinincs/camps----Sure they'd cut your cost for being a returnee, or being an invite, or making Top 50, or so---But it was still a chunck of change. And thats not including your association and conference fee's....On top of having to buy all your clothing, equpip, etc, etc....

And baseball is getting worse. They(P5 conferences) are starting to hire guys who go to pro-school, but are not offered a job at any pro-level, OR guys who's time has ran out(you have 2/3 yers to advance at the pro-lvel for the most part.) Guys who have busted ass at the JUCO, NAIA, D3 level, etc, etc....are getting bypassed now b/c these major conference's are hiring former A, AA umpires, or guys who simply went to pro school, passed, but got NO job offer.

Its simplypolitics----the good ole' boys system----and it''l never change. There are plenty of better officials out there-----but you'll never see them----Not at this level---At least not until dudes start to retire, or **** up someting fierce.

I was on a good path, made a mistake, and it took me almost 5 years to get back into "the loop". Got a decent offer, but had health issues....

Baseball I now simply work as a fill-in; ny my choosing. I have 52 varsity baseball games this---and roughly 22 college games. After a year of hardly any college basketball/baseball, and strictly HS, I realized----"I enjoy the HS game more. Its not a job feel.". When I ws doing this 95% of the time, always gone, missing bdays, holidays, etc, etc......Imean at first it was cool---$$ was great. But things have changed since I started some 20+ years ago. And its not a good thing....

We could see better-----but we won't. And its a shame. Because sooner or later, younger guys are gonna get tired of spending big money and not advancing, yet grading out just as high, if not better than guys you see on this list, or every night in P5 conference's, and will walk away.

I say this with 100% confidence----I am just as good as 70% of the guys on the list. Zero doubt in my mnd. But one mistake, early in my career, and then not being part of the click, has killed me. Luckily I have "an in" with a really good official, long-time official, who most on here know. But I've told him---"I'm almost 50, and I see whats going on----the same names, every year....every game...No one moving from the MEAC< MAAC, OVC, etc, etc......And ya know, I'm content with worling HS games..."

Like I said, a little off script, probably not that candid----but 100% the facts. I have zero regrets, and feel good knowing I reached the highest level, that I wanted to reach...

But get used to these names----they will rarely change.

With that being said----100% love/respect for 99% of these dudes. Its a hard ****ing job, where you are expected to be perfect from the tip, and get better. Not many people could do it....Glad Igot the opportunity..
