1996 for Georgia Tech, with the crazy amount of talent in the Atlanta area, is straight up bonkers. Just unfathomable.

Since 1996, GT has only had two seasons with winning records in ACC play - 2004 and 2020. Hard to believe.

They really are a hotbed for elite talent. Problem is, just about every ACC/SEC school does a fair bit of recruiting there. Seems like half of Auburn's team is a native of Georgia. Kentucky had Montgomery and Hagans. FSU had Vassell and Walker. Duke grabbed 3 Georgia kids in the 2017 class. If they could retain a decent portion of the local kids, GT could easily be a regular in the top 25.

Montgomery is from FL, he just transferred to Georgia to play his last 2 years at Wheeler.

FSU pillages the Atlanta area frequently. Vassell, Walker, Chris Singleton, Ike Obiagu, Malik Beasley. But that’s partly because GT has been so inept. There’s no way a kid like Vassell or Beasley shouldn’t end up at Tech.

Now let’s do last NCAA Championship. Kentucky coming up on almost (another) 10 year title drought.
