Your closet, most likely......
Here's how the last 15 National Champions fared (excluding the conference tournaments) in their last 10 games of the regular season:

Quick note- Only 7 of the past 15 champions won their conference tournament as well, including just one in the last seven.

2006 Florida*- (6-4)

2007 Florida*- (7-3)

2008 Kansas*- (8-2)

2009 North Carolina- (9-1)

2010 Duke*- (9-1)

2011 UConn*- (4-6)

2012 Kentucky- (10-0)

2013 Louisville*- (9-1)

2014 UConn- (7-3)

2015 Duke- (10-0)

2016 Villanova- (9-1)

2017 North Carolina- (7-3)

2018 Villanova*- (7-3)

2019 Virginia- (9-1)

2021 Baylor- (9-1)

What, if anything, can we glean from these records?

8 of 15 went 9-1 or better, but only two of them won their conference tournament. Of course, the only one in that group that didn't at least win their regular season title was 2015 Duke, who went 10-0 prior to the ACC Tournament.

All I know is there have been few teams in recent years as red hot and looking like they had so much momentum as Illinois last year, so … yeah, lol. Practically a new season tomorrow.

I remember when KU rolled Purdue by 30+ 5 years ago and looked unstoppable, only to lay an egg two days later.

The quick turnaround in the Elite 8 is a bitch. That’s been Self’s biggest enemy.
