As I stated in the original thread on this subject, I think stewart is a jackass and I totally disagree with his politics, that said, in this instance, I think he is sincere and passionate about this cause. He has been working on this for some time and isn’t a “Jonny come lately” for the press it brings (like 99% of Hollywood is/would be).

I loved his commentary to the subcommittee and thought he did a damn fine job on this. Has zero to do with political parties/ideologies IMO. Give credit where it’s due and Stewart did a great job and was well spoken.

Absolutely! Small minded people have zero objectivity and can only see things along party lines. This is not a Republican or Democratic issue. This is a humanitarian issue!

That’s because Congress has repeatedly tried to let the funding die, and this is not the first time Jon Stewart has had to go and use his status as a platform for this issue. He’s had to do this multiple times, Congress finally passes some sort of extension, and then they plan to let it die again. It baffles me how hard politicians from both sides lean on the imagery of heroes from 9/11 without being willing to actually help take care of them. And compared to what they typically waste money on, the funding for this CAN’T be very much.

Afraid of what your friends might think of you simply say “we agree on this issue?”

    Be your own man.

Agreed 100%. There are many smart Dems and many smart Republicans. You aren’t stupid for republican and you are not stupid for being a Democrat.

It sure has. My "generation" is supposed to like Trevor Noah. The show is embarassing. It's a bunch of cheap shots and lazy jokes - very different than Jon Stewart.

John Oliver's show is good now.

I don’t think people realize how much Jon stewart has influenced comedy. He found a lot of huge talents like Steve Carrell, John Oliver, Stephen Colbert, Ed Helms, Rob Riggle, Robert Corddry, Josh Gad, Hasan Minhaj, Olivia Munn, Michael Che, and Jessica Williams. All either stars or are “those guys” that keep popping in movies.

No way were they going to let it expire. Glad he made them look like they truly are, but it was a grandstand play.

Even if you believe it will pass you still go speak. I’ve sat through some obvious ones but when you have their ears you don’t pass it up.

It’s not grandstanding when he has been a proponent of this issue for quite some time!

IMO, yes it is. Nobody believed they would be stupid enough to let it expire, so there was no need for the big appearance, other than getting him camera time.

And exactly why does he need camera time? The news has been reporting for some time their was a strong likelihood it was going to expire. I’ll take their knowledge and understanding of the issue over your hate, it appears, filled opinion.

Except the victims asked him to speak on their behalf.... Terrible grandstanding ass for showing up and helping their cause at their request.... How dare he.Eyeroll

You oughta be more bothered that the asshats we elected decided to sit the hearing out than Stewart being there at the 9/11 victims request.

Oh, I have no respect for Congress at all. Especially the House members. You have idiots there who get elected and represent our country based upon getting as little as 14 to 20K votes in some districts and so many of them seem so ill prepared to function in the real world. But I'm not any more impressed by celebrity activists who give impassioned pleas and cry on cue either.

Really? That's your argument? It was my opinion, and the opinion of most experts. Stewart is a hack. I'm glad he found something to support but I'll never believe he is an invested as he tries to appear on television. He whined about the committee members not all being present, yet it is common for these committees to meet and have members come and go during their meetings. It happens with every committee in Congress. But hey, if you think he is a God, more power to you. MY OPINION is he is just another whiney celebrity looking for facetime on television, trying to look like he is involved. AND THAT IS MY OPINION!!!!! JUST SO YOU DON"T GET CONFUSED.

Look at how much those 9/11 heroes cared about him talking. They were so emotional and grateful that he did that. You claiming it was grandstanding is disrespecting what heb
Well tell that to the 9/11 responders who thought he was a hero.

Still doesn't mean he wasn't grandstanding. There was no indication that the fund would not be renewed. Even McConnel, who I am no fan of, said as much.

And you know that how? Shouldn’t you push for the issues that really matter for you. Jon didn’t do this for attention. He did it so he could help countless hero’s.

Well, whether the perception is that Stewart was or was not grandstanding or finding something to be angry about is individual interpretation.

I believe from watching and listening to him (on this singular issue) that he is very passionate and sincere about it.

Plus I love someone giving it to those douche bags in Congress (all of them) so I quite enjoyed his rant.

Just curious, if it was never in doubt why was Congress holding hearings (not required to get a bill to the floor), why was the meeting packed with first responders and why did they ask Jon to speak on their behalf? Appears you “think” you know more about the issue than the actual people directly involved. Damn funny
