It's kinda cool to see Washington back in the Rose Bowl

Assuming OSU gets left out of the playoff, that would make for a great game.

Even if Northwestern wins, that would be a fun game to watch as well.

I'd like to see us play Washington, would be a good game.

Most OSU fans already know our bowl opponent. It's either going to be Washington in the Rose or Alabama in the semi final, this all assuming we win tonight, which is nowhere near a guarantee.

Northwestern is scrappy. Not sure what to expect tonight.

I know one thing to expect, Northwestern will give it everything they got. Cant say the same about OSU, who knows which team will show up.

Northwestern is such a pain in the ass as an Iowa fan. Respect the hell out of their coach and the players they have. They play team ball very well. 8-1 in the B1G this year but lose to Akron and Duke. Good luck Buck fans it looks like a mismatch on paper..exactly what Northwestern wants.

    That's for sure.

And that is basically the story of OSU this season. Can play with anyone, and play down to anyone. Hard to judge this OSU team

If OSU makes the playoff, does that mean Michigan to the Rose Bowl?

    Yes it would be.

Iowa to the Holiday Bowl is a done deal, right?

If there’s one good thing about this year, it’s that we beat the PAC 12 champs.

God, no more Outback Bowls. I always liked the Holiday Bowl. And IMO, we don't play the PAC teams enough

    Agree 100%
Wish they'd shake the bowl bids up and find a few more games out west...more games with PAC and Big 12

Well said and all too true but I do expect OSU to show up for this one. Whats funny is both of these teams share their worst trait to some degree in that they are both prone to be consistently inconsistent. I'm sure Fitz will have them at their best but their lack of depth may cost them late.

There isn't a playoff. If there would assuredly it would include Washington and Ohio St. CFP is a variation to the Belt. The Belt is split but Ohio St retained a full measure. By beating Michigan,St. Maryland captured a measure (1/8) by taking Ohio St to OT. That's how the Belt is applied. The result is that there are four partitions. Alabama has a share (25%). As does Ohio St (3/8) as does Maryland (1/8) as does UCF. That means there are four championships on tap.

I am just glad to see the two historically prominent conferences back in the Rose Bowl as God intended and not ruining the last bastion of a correct caste system in college football.

Yeah I concur. That part is fair, last year it was so ridiculous not letting the Rose be the Rose for sake of a national title, I guess it all worked out ok. But I thought it was lame. Why not let the Rose decide who they want?

The first bowl game Alabama ever participated in was the Rose Bowl in January 1926, their opponent was the 10-0-1 Washington Huskies. Alabama went on to win their first National Championship by beating the Huskies 20-19.

The Rose Bowl will always be the top Bowl, imo. It is the bowl that makes the holidays ring! :)

I don't think they've ever met in the Rose Bowl.

Ohio State played Washington a few times in the 90s but those weren't really good Washington teams.

It's like USC's second home. Beating USC in the Rose was nearly impossible for B1G teams in many years, regardless of how good that team was.

What do you mean? Look at the past four CFP championships. Every year the champion has been a Belt NC. Simple. I outlined the procedure. Its not a difficult metric to follow or to apply. Last year, by season's end, and if you have difficulty understanding it I'm more than willing to diagram it, there were in fact four teams, Alabama, Ohio St., Pittsburgh, and USF with a legitimate claim to the Belt. In fact, Pittsburgh (5-7) was the 'official' Belt NC.
CFP follows a similar diametric, but it would appear that ANY team with two losses is EXEMPTED. So. Were talking about Alabama, who were a collective 13-1, Ohio St., 12-2, USF 10-2, and Pittsburgh 5-7.
Of those teams, all with equal claim (1/4) to the championship (Belt) other than simply pairing them off, how does a person choose a deserving NC? Simple, two-loss exclusionary. That's how. That removes 3/4.
Alabama becomes the sole beneficiary to the NC. The same rules apply now.
Four teams (Ohio St., Alabama, UCF, Penn St) albeit with varied measures, this go around all have a stake in the Belt (CFP).
Penn St. (9-3) is eliminated, but their measure (1/8) is at stake against Kentucky.
Ohio St (3/8) is up-for-grabs and is the 'official' Belt NC against Washington. Alabama has a 25% (1/4) they carried from 2018, and UCF beat Memphis to claim a full measure (1/4). That was a result of Oklahoma forfeiting the CFP championship.
To Alabama, last year. Oklahoma didn't have two losses. Georgia (13-2) did. Oklahoma was eliminated as a result of format. Their measure (25%) was passed along (retroactively) from Iowa St., to W. Virginia, to Texas, to Texas Tech, to USF. (USF defeated Texas Tech 38-34 in Birmingham, AL bowl pairing, a championship game).
USF was 7-0 before losing 36-57 to Houston.Houston lost 31-45 to S.Methodist. S.Methodist lost 18-28 to Memphis. And Memphis lost 41-56 to C.Florida. Their measure of the Belt, therefore (the one Oklahoma forfeittted) is in UCF's hands.
