Is Jeff Tedford underrated?

Look at what he's done at Fresno over the past two years. He took over after the team went 1-11. In his first year he went 10-4 (7-1 MWC) and won the West Division. This year he has Fresno sitting at 17 (Coaches), 16 (AP) and 23 (CFP) with an 8-1 record.

Interesting tid-bit: Fresno State is the only FBS team in California ranked in the top 25.

I don't know... he's been around the block so it's hard to tell. He has done a bang up job with Fresno though. Wonder if he'll stay or jump to a P5 school?

Like you said, he's been around the block. But now he's back home and having success. I get the feeling he'll stick around for a while. For the right coach, Fresno is not a bad gig.

For the "right coach" you're right. I equate Fresno to LA, can't stand them. The crime in Fresno is ridiculous and a younger coach with a family would probably want greener pastures. Not sure on Tedfords family or kids, but he's an older guy and my be okay with it. Especially sense hes an alum.

I always thought he was a good coach. He's good at evaluating developing and in game decision making.

Great offensive mind and QB coach. Only an average HC at Cal but Cal is a tough place to coach. Happy to see hi doing well back in Fresno. I think that is where he got his start if I recall.

I actually think he was a pretty good coach at Cal. He won 10 games twice and no Cal coach had won 10 games since the 40’s. It is a tough gig, Cal academics are rigorous, you have the even more prestigious Stanford very nearby who is better funded. UCLA and USC even more so have been the powers of the state and in the past 25 years you have Oregon who recruits the hell out of the Bay and nearby.

Are you kidding me? Jeff Tedford put Fresno St on the map? GMAFB. They've been relevant a long time. And they were pretty good with Tim DeRuyter, but admittedly got progressively worse, but teams don't turn on a dime. He maybe revived a program in disarray but he's not the Savior of it.

Yeah Cal really sucks now. Can't imagine why they didn't keep Tedford. Which was like what? 3 coaches ago? GMAFB,. He was fired because they SUCKED.

    You're an idiot, as usual.

He had a winning record for his first 8 seasons at Cal, during a very strong period in Pac12 futbol. He brought in massive facilities and stadium upgrades, and was chased off as a result. Cal is a tough place to win, for a lot of reasons. Tedford is a proven winner.

How many coaches have had multiple 10 win seasons at Cal?

He is best known as the former coach of the California Golden Bears, where he was twice named Pac-10 Coach of the Year and holds Cal records for most wins, games coached, and bowl game victories.

    82-57 as HC at Cal.

    As always, you are clueless.

By multiple you mean three? Or what? I don't have to agree with you. If you want to put Jeff Tedford on a pedestal go ahead. Pat Hill did a nice job at Fresno. His go anywhere/play anybody approach was pretty damn impressive in my eyes. Looks like Fresno is again looking to go that route. Couple trips to USC the next few years, trips to Boulder, College Station, Eugene & UCLA. We'll see if he can sustain the success.
3-6....4-5.....2-7 his final 3 season in conference is the reason. But I can't say as I wouldn't have given him another season or so based upon his prior success.

This from the guy who trotted out the genius proposition that a conference with a sub .400 winning record against the P5 deserved a title shot. Laughing Geez you are one dumb s.o.b.

It’s impossible to agrue with these UCFacts. I agree that he and Fresno is way underrated. Fresno AND SDSU are the 2 best teams in California. I expect that to be the case for a really long time.

I always thought Tedford was pretty good. One year he had Marshawn Lynch and Aaron Rodgers on the same team right? Not sure how they didn't win it all, but they were still a pretty solid team.

They went 10-1, and coulda shoulda beaten #1 SC in the Coliseum that one day in 2004. They had four shots at the end zone late in the game.Rodgers completed I think 21 straight passes.

But yeah, Tedford sucks. Cuz dumbass CFB Fan says so.

I always thought he was a good coach, and Cal is not an easy place to have football success. However, there were two big knocks against him.

    1) I haven't checked lately and I am sure it is no longer the case, but several years ago Cal had around as many guys in the NFL as the perennial title contenders, with virtually no college level success to show for all the NFL caliber talent going through the program

    2) He had several bad years in a row, and just seemed like he wasn't even trying. Maybe it was just a run of bad luck and should have rode it out, or maybe sometimes a change of scenery is required, but in either case he got canned.

I am reasonably happy with Cal's current coach, never thought Dykes was a good fit for this job.

No they (Ohio State) beat undefeated Arizona State in the Rose Bowl. Pat Tillman and Jake Plummer.
