WVU has a better chance than UCF of joining the ACC. Despite Louisville, the conference is still primarily smaller state or private schools with academic focus. UCF doesn’t fit. Ideologically they would be better fit in conferences like the SEC or Big 12.

GT, UVa, Duke, and Pitt played fine - Miami and VT had down years and that is why the Coastal looks like trash...The Coastal will be fine in a year or two. Clemson is the ACC's Alabama though and that sucks for the rest of us.

They might fare pretty well in football but they'd get their ass handed to them in basketball.

The SEC should add UCFootball and kick out that crappy basketball school that has had like 1 good season in the last 30 years.

Schools can have different sports competing in different conferences, so why keep them around just because they have a good basketball team?

What in God’s name would UCF bring to the SEC...? No new tv market, no football or basket power program, 165 academic ranking, etc... I promise you once the Big 12 collapses the SEC is going after Oklahoma (provided oSu isn’t a package deal) and UNC from the ACC. Those are the SEC two main targets. The SEC doesn’t want any school it already has a team in that said state. That means no FSU, Clemson, GT, etc. Hell outside of Texas I don’t even think the SEC would pick up the phone and listen to their proposal.

always been my top choice for UCF as the ideal conference.

I'd be happy with the Big 12 but have a feeling that league will eventually dissolve. Also when Football eventually becomes illegal we would still be in a basketball league with Jordan U.

No thanks. You’re going to have to do better than bringing in UCF to entice ND to become a full member.

Why do so many people think stuff like this matters wrt conference additions?

It’s not about “fit”. It’s about money. It’s all about money.

The ACC’s best expansion addition to date has been a large public school, fwiw.

UCF isn't joining the ACC. I did learn something interesting about the ACC. They really NEED Notre Dame. Badly. The ratings I posted on pg. 3 of conference rankings relative proficiency had the ACC deal last (of the P-5) by a sizable margin without N.Dame. They really matter! More than I anticipated. They make a huge difference.

Man I never knew the sec already has multiple teams from the same state... It’s about new tv markets and nothing is going to cause the SEC to say let’s get a team from a state we already have another team in. Plus no way in hell Florida is going to vote yes for another team from Florida to come in.

I've suggested multiple times that the conferences add teams to get to 16. For the SEC that would require two participants.
Would either S.Florida and their counterpart, C. Florida have mass appeal? Or would a better result follow from including E.Carolina and Memphis? I would like to hear ideas.

Notre Dame should join the AAC. That would create a 6th conference easily and bolster those programs because at the very least 4 of them would get Notre Dame at home and that brings fans, brings recruits, brings national attention. They maintain a National presence (just play USC and Stanford OOC) by playing as far North as Connecticut, far South as Tampa, and far west as Houston.

I will never understand why ND not being in a conference drives people so crazy. Just because someone does something differently doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

They're in the ACC. One of fifteen. Right NOW! They aren't participating fully. That's stupid, they simply need four additional games. To get to nine which is where everyone else should be, too. Whays 5/8?
They're 5/8. That's more than 5/10. That would be a partial member 5/10. 5/8 isn't partial that's a majority member. One year they played six games. Enough of this B,S. They're in the ACC. Its really not open to interpretation. They're in.

Whoa Nellie put the brakes on!! Not meant to slight Clemson, but they are 10-17 against FSU since FSU joined the ACC in 1992 and FSU is 15-5 in conference championships against Clemson

Hate it all you want, but it'll be a better place than the ACC for you long term. You will have your own conference with a plentiful footprint. No one to play second fiddle too in March or November. Not bagging on the ACC (I swear), a lot of conferences have that, but I know how big of a pull the Carolina schools will get come basketball season and I've seen several Domers in the last four years go after ACC officiating.

Status quo is a far better option. Someone has to come up with something that’s actually enticing to get ND as a football member. USF Temple UConn and East Carolina are hardly that.

The Big12 should extend an invite to UCF. They blew it with Louisville. They need to snatch up UCF.

Their conference has a more recent Natty than the Irish. Its not 1972 anymore...Notre Dame is above no one and i say that as a fan. I just like the long term implications. Thats a game changer

UCF has no chance of an ACC invite given 2 existing Florida schools. It’s just another mouth to feed for the ACC.

If/when they get a P5 invite it will be big 12. Both sides win there.

Not sure number of teams in Florida matters. NC has 4 teams.
