Georgia should play their CFP game in Atlanta instead of Clemson should they both go undefeated to that point. Certainly, both teams would like the short drive to Atlanta for their fan bases. Dabo, and I'm sure Smart would say the same, just wants to know where they need to show up to play.
This reminded me of FSU and their beginnings under Bobby Bowden when he would play anyone, anywhere, and did not worry about home and home are playing the other team 4 times at their place. One year in the 80's(81?), they traveled to( all these teams were good then) Nebraska, ND, Ohio State, Pitt, and LSU. UCF might want to take a page from FSU's book.

Don't care. We'll beat anyone, any time, anywhere.

Hell we travelled across the country earlier this year and took the "best team ever" to the woodshed.

I hope this works out as well for UGA as the “Seminole rap” did for fsu.

    https://www.dawgnation.com/football/georgia-football-clemson-schedule

I think this is the article the OP is talking about.

It's not all that odd. Basically just says that if UGA and Clemson are the only two undefeated teams, UGA should get the #1 seed since their schedule is tougher (which means a first round game in Atlanta rather than Arizona).

Not sure if I care that much either way personally. In 2017 we won in California and lost in Atlanta.

It would be awesome to play that game in Atlanta but talking about hypothetical "who deserves what" scenarios before a single snap has happened is ridiculous.

When I first started listening to their daily show I appreciated that Adams was often objective and willing to point out flaws in the program. It's rapidly becoming just rampant homerism though.

1981 - @ #17 Nebraska, @ #7 Ohio State, @ NR Notre Dame, @ #3 Pitt, @ NR LSU (All games were back to back)

Record of each team at end of season.

    NU - 9-2-1
    OSU - 9-3
    ND 5-6
    Pitt 11-1
    LSU 3-7-1

Big named schools, but ND and LSU had a crap year.

Not for UGA. The perennial preseason champs always need their excuses in order before the first snap. It's all part of Georgia's annual preparation.

I agree with your thought. But if both are undefeated, I cannot see Clemson not being the 1 seed.

So what do other team beat writers discuss, how pretty their uniforms are?
Yeah, they are homers, that's their job.

    This.

But I think a beat writer for any team entering this year should see that if Clemson is undefeated heading into the playoff, they should be the top seed.

Being a beat writer shouldn’t excuse being blind.

Not just defending champs. At that point it would be 28 in a row with probably the best qb in the country. I know last year doesn’t count, but you also can’t forget it when your leading is the same player.

Thankfully the committee has shown an ability to adjudge each season independently. The very first playoff we saw this if you recall. Defending undefeated champion FSU was on a long win streak, both Bama and the Ducks had lost during the regular season and yet they were seeded 1-2 and FSU was the 3 with eventual champion tOSU the 4.

We have pre-season polls before the games too.

But you're right... people think Clemson is going to be really good... but they may suck completely and lose every game. Playing them may not be a tough game.

I think it's reasonable to discuss the upcoming season while making some basic assumptions about how good teams will be. We'll let those assumptions change when the teams prove us wrong... but why refrain from talking about football because "we don't know what's going to happen?"

I love how these things always seem to come around to UCF. When you are independent you can do those things. UGA can do it now because they are in the SEC already. In the 90s UCF did the same thing In 1997 as a newly minted D-1 teams they played at Ole Miss, at South Carolina, at Nebraska (who won the NC) at Auburn, at Miss State. 1999 At UF, At Georgia, at GaTech, At Auburn. But by then the dynamic of college football had changed and TV revenue had begun to drive the reasons for conference affiliation.
