Florida's top signee from its most recent recruiting class is bailing on the Gators after just five months on campus. Four-star cornerback Chris Steele, the No. 42 overall player in the Class of 2019 and prized prospect of head coach Dan Mullen, has entered the NCAA transfer portal and will leave the program, a source confirmed to CBS Sports.

The Gainesville Sun reported that the decision to leave was a result of a request that was not honored by the Florida staff. Steele reportedly requested to change dorm rooms shortly after he enrolled because he felt uncomfortable sharing a residence with four-star quarterback signee Jalon Jones. The staff decided not to move him during the spring semester, although they did plan on moving him in the summer.

Jones also entered the transfer portal earlier this month after he was accused of sexual battery of two women at the residence on April 6. Steele and fellow freshman defensive back Jaydon Hill allegedly walked in on the first incident involving Jones, which forced Jones to stop. The two alleged victims declined to press charges, though the names of Steele and Hill were both included in reports about the incident.

Steele is a 6-foot-1, 185-pounder from St. John Bosco High School in Los Angeles. He chose the Gators over hometown USC and was a candidate to see significant playing time in Florida's secondary in 2019.

Steele's decision to leave just 15 practices after joining the program is ironic considering Mullen's comment in March on Georgia losing young players to transfer, though Mullen was speaking more to playing time and such.

"I'd think we did a poor job recruiting if guys were coming in and then immediately walking out the door because it was something different than what they thought it would be and we lied to them during recruiting, or we sold them on a dream that wasn't true," Mullen said, according to 247Sports.

Florida has not commented on Steele's decision to enter the transfer portal.

5 Star DE decommits a few hours ago.

Ocala (Fla.) Vanguard 2021 defensive end Bryce Langston announced Thursday afternoon that he de-committed from Florida via his Twitter account.

"After the long days and nights of me thinking about the recruiting process, talking to my family & coaches I will announce that I will be de-committing from the University of Florida," Langston said in his written statement on Twitter.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound prospect originally committed to the Gators back in early December of 2019. He headlines a talented group of 2021 commitments Florida was able to secure early in the process.

Langston has a host of early offers including Auburn, Arkansas, Florida State, Nebraska, Tennessee, and others. The Seminoles recently hosted Langston on campus for FSU's spring game last month.

247Sports currently ranks Langston as the nation’s No. 10 overall prospect in the 2021 recruiting class.

Our current DB coach Charlton Warren.

(Mullen can’t keep his assistant coaches either.)

Quick notes put together by a poster on WC.

    This month...

4-star QB Jalon Jones leaves Florida, sexual assault clouds looming behind him, with two different women.

Junior CB Brian Roberts is arrested for choking his girlfriend, and preventing her from leaving.

5-star CB Chris Steele wants a new roommate, Mullen ignores him, now he's leaving. He was Jones roommate, and allegedly reported what was going on, but was ignored.

5-star DE, and Top 5 overall player in the 2021 class, Bryce Langston, decommits.

Lot's of smoke that three of their top signee's for the 2019 class aren't going to qualify (Black, Henderson, and a DE)

Rumors circulating that Mullen tried to cover up the sexual assault, which could lead into an investigation.

2021. I don't ever bother taking notice of commitments from HS Sophomores. The majority of the time they don't stick anyway.

I think that is a little off. He asked to be switched as a roommate long before the alleged sexual assault occurred. I don’t believe he reported anything and was ignored, because the girls went to the cops right away.

    Wrong.

Ron English was Steele's primary recruiter. English had a relationship with Steele's dad that predated the recruiting process.

In fact Steele the player tweeter (correctly) that Warren's replacement at UF (Torrian Gray) was an upgrade as a DB coach. Warren didn't accomplish anything at UF, UF did have a few games where the DBs looked absolutely LOST (see Mizzou) though.

Warren also failed to get Elam to sign with UGA which UGA fans won't admit was going to be the only real benefit to hiring him.

I was gonna inform him of this but figured I’d let it stand just to savor the majestic ignorance of it.

Warren did not recruit Steele who we signed. He did recruit Elam who signed with us anyway after UGA paid Warren a whole bunch of money. SmokinSmile

    Salty.

As UF’s DB coach, Warren certainly had a hand in recruiting Steele. Doesn’t matter now. Neither are there.

And as far as Elam, he’s a Gator legacy — related to All-American Gator safety Matt Elam. But y’all conveniently don’t mention that.
