Apparently, negotiations with Hugh Freeze as OC have stalled, and it's looking like that ship may be close to sailing.

My issue is not with Freeze not coming, (I'm not a big fan personally anyway), but a deeper issue. If FSU was serious about getting him, why are they unwilling to pony up? You knew Freeze and his agent were going to have a high price tag when you pursued him. Why waste everyone's time and create unnecessary frustration?

CFB has turned into an arms race, and recently the top programs who consistently compete for a CFP spot each year have demonstrated it takes money to do so. Look at Alabama. Look at Clemson. Look at Ohio State. They got the staff they wanted and paid a hefty amount to do it. But it's paying dividends every year.

Maybe Jimbo was right about our BoT and overall leadership. We are looking like we will be relegated to the middle of the ACC long term if not worse if this keeps up. JMHO

I'd be fine if they just burned the whole place down and started all over, with a new name for the university also.

Is it really the price tag? I’ve read Freeze wants Bama OC and has been waiting for that to open up, which it now has.

If I never had to hear the "warchant" ever again it'd be too soon.

You could be right. That's not being mentioned though as a reason. When I hear "negotiations have stalled", in my experience, that usually means an salary amount is not being agreed upon, and neither side is budging much.

It doesn’t really matter who the Bama OC is. He’ll do what Saban says to do, not the other way around. Doug Nussmeier won a NC as Bama’s OC, and we all know how awesome he was at Florida and Michigan afterwards.

    • More than half of Taggart's career wins (56%) come against terrible teams (4 wins or less). Breaking it down further:
      • 42% of Taggart's career wins come against really terrible teams (3 wins or less)
      • 30% of Taggart's career wins come against really really terrible teams (2 wins or less)
      • 15% of Taggart's career wins come against really really really terrible teams (1 win or less)
    • Only 8% of Taggart's wins come against teams win 8+ win
      • Taggart only has 1 win against a 10 win team (Arkansas State)
    • Average outcome against ranked teams is LOSS by 24 (average score is 41 to 17)
    • Taggart failed to put up 14 points+ in 20% of all games
    • Taggart gets blow out. A lot. He lost almost a quarter of games (23%) by 20+ points.
    Scariest stat of all:
    • In 9 years as head coach, Taggart has only beaten 12 teams that finished with a winning record (possibly 13 if Wake wins bowl game).
    • Put differently, Taggart averages 1.3 wins a year against winning teams
    • Here are the only 12 winning teams Taggart has beaten in his CAREER:
      • Florida International University, Arkansas State, Cincinnati (x2), Temple, Memphis, Navy, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, NIU, BC - not exactly heavy hitters.

Maybe $$$$ isn't the issue and Freeze doesn't want to be an assistant coach for a HC coach that sucks? The real issue is FSU thinking Taggart was the solution in the first place considering his record at previous places.

My understanding is that the head of the SEC has to allow Freeze back in, given his nefarious activity happened within the SEC.

You’re going to get a lot of heat for that but, I’ll be honest, those numbers suck and are very concerning. A year ago, I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but after what I saw this year, they may be more relevant than we thought. I was excited about all he said and did. He seems like a fun, great guy. But FSU shouldn’t be an OJT program. If we expect to complete for championships, we need to hire the best.

I really HOPE he can turn it around but things just keep getting worse. Our recruiting class is ok, not stellar, we are about to lose our only QB recruit, first losing season in almost 4 decades, OC jumped ship at the first chance, etc.

It's not about FSU's budget, it's about Assistants not wanting to risk their careers working under Taggart. There are obviously concerns about his system and attention to detail needed in running a Program. If Jeff Brohm was the HC at FSU they wouldn't have this issue.

It's not to say that Taggart doesn't figure it out but he might have to get unconventional in hires(like Shaun King) vs established names.

Thought it was about FSU wanting two years and a huge buyout if he leaves early and Freeze wanting one year.

I'm not a Taggart hater, simply lamenting that it seems FSU is hesitant at times to paying bigger money in comparison to other programs that have done so and are reaping success as a result
