Let me ask you folks here how many games and which games will Mullen have to consistently win to keep the support of UF fans? What about SEC East Championships, SEC Championships, NC appearances? Vs FSU, Miami & UGA?

If you can, break it down by year 1-5. Longer if you like.

2018: 8-5 transition year. No expectations.
2019: 10-3 if we have an experienced team.
2020: 9-4. Year three is often a stumble.
    2021: 11-2, SEC title game.
2022: 11-2 plus. SEC title, playoff spot.

    2022 hotseat: 8-5 (barring injuries/attrition)
2022 gone: losing season. With our recruiting, there is no excuse for a losing season.

Wins versus rivals are hard to predict. What if (Gog Forbid!) Georgia and FSU has playoff-caliber teams? Unless we also have one, we cannot confidently predict wins.

As for playoff berths, well, that is a chancy thing, often out of our control unless we are 12-1 or so...

It's not as if requirements for UF coaches are carved in stone, but here are my beliefs of what UF fans demand:

    1. At a minimum, make the CFP at least once every 5 years, and win the title at least once every 10 years.

    2. Until Coach Saban retires or, God forbid, dies, win the SEC at least 2 times per decade. After Coach Saban is gone, once every 3 years at a minimum. Gators believe the natural order of the SEC is Alabama in the West and Florida in the East as division champions. After all, it is the most common match-up in the SECCG.

    3. To be tolerated, average beating the Noles and Bulldogs every other year. Greatly respected? 2 of every 3. Beloved? 4 of 5.

    4. Must beat the Vols 3 of every 4. The Gators and Vols have played annually for 28 seasons beginning in 1990. Florida has won 21 of those 28 games.

UCSe has been better than UF since Muschamp has been in Columbia. 15-11 and bowling both years. Not to mention the improvement year to year so far. Meanwhile UF was 13-11 with a 4-7 record last year and sitting at home come bowl season. The teams are 1-1 head to head the past 2 years.

And what if he goes 6-6 or worse this year, then 8-5 or 7-6 in 2019, and your recruiting classes are way behind FSU, Miami, UGA, Bama, AU, and maybe UT and SCar?

1-11 with a dominating win over MSU 2018
Seriously though. I'll let year one play out before I go all in or doom and gloom. Just from S&C and the effort on the recruiting trail I like what he is doing. This time last season Mac and co. only had 2-3 recruits committed for the 18 class.

Beating the Noles 4 out of 5 years over a sustained period is outlandish expectations for the Gators. Even beating FSU 50% of the time over a 10+ year period is difficult.

Beating the Noles AND Dawgs 4 out of 5 years for a sustained period? That’s just not gonna happen.

Your “greatly respected” should be beating them 50% of the time.

Personally, there is no reason for Florida to not dominate the SEC. In my opinion, Florida being down has been the biggest thing to help Alabama .

No state in the SEC has a better recruiting base than Florida.

Trash uf teams did well vs richt. That’s one reason why he is Miami’s coach. You should be ashamed of yourself bringing up an irrelevant point to defend your rival.

Depends on what you mean by "sustained period." During the 2000s, UF beat UGA 8 of 10 and FSU 7 of 10.

More than 10 years (hence the 10+ in the post you quoted).

And the 2000s proves my point. Even with FSU at its lowest period since the 70s and UF winning multiple national titles, UF couldn’t sustain beating FSU 4 out of 5 years.

UF is 11-6 vs UF since Spurrier left. Take 3 wins away from Urban to just make it as trashy as possible and UF is still 8-6 vs UGa. Hilarious for trash. Does that make UGa ass juice?

Football seasons involve many more than one game a year. Go ahead and compare how their seasons went, not that it has any relevance to the point I made.

Great point, but I think it's harder than it used to be. 1) You have a state with 3 schools with great football/athletic programs, not easy for all 3 to be at the top especially with 2) recruiting being more national now, every major program recruits the state of Florida.

Foley and UF got cocky, cheap and complacent. We have been paying the price for that the last 10 years. It appears our new AD isn't afraid to spend, time will tell if Mullen is the right hire, but he was probably the best available for UF at the time. His recruiting concerns me.

I understand. UGa likes to brag about beating a lame duck coach last season. Still UGa gets to claim that win just like UF can claim the other wins. Think before you speak next time.

He needs to step it up in recruiting. He is trailing FSU & Miami in every measurable way. His highest recruit in the state of Florida so far is 36th. He needs to do a better job.

So then it would make sense that such an accomplishment would make a coach "beloved," would it not?

Beating FSU 50% of the time and UGA 80% would still make most coaches at least greatly respected if not "beloved."

The original post mentioned both UGA and FSU. I feel like you're emphasizing the FSU part. Going 50% against UGA isn't going to make any UF coach "greatly respected" unless Kirby keeps them where they were last year for a while.
