They had a nice 2 week run in the tourney last year but they have been bad far more often under Hubert than they have been good

Yes but it hasn’t happened since 1975. It also wasn’t because the preseason number 1 sucked (nc state) it was because they got beat in the acc finals and back then only 1 team from each conference went to the tourney. The rule changed basically because of them. Nc state and North Carolina were the two more dominant teams that year but only one got to go dancing.
1976 field expanded to 32 and hasn’t happened since.
