I went to the Naval Academy, but my brother was an Army medic with the 25th Infantry Division. Every year, we have a standing bet on the game: the loser does 100 pushups. After he left the Army, he volunteered with Partners in Health and went to Liberia during the 2014 Ebola outbreak. He was there for a year and spent most of it in the poorest, most isolated areas of the country. However, during halftime of the 2014 game, my phone rang. It was my brother. Someone from the organization visited the camp with a satellite phone, and he borrowed it just so he could ask me what the score was. It was the only time I heard from him in the year he was gone, and it makes me laugh every time I think of it.
