ESPN OTL story about Louisville

I' guessing anyone that said anything negative about Jurich is "rogue" or a UK plant. I think that' how you're supposed to respond

and if it was UK....... would you give UK and our fans a break? of course you wouldnt

Exactly lol! Blows my mind how UL and UNC fans say UK fans are “obsessed” because we talk about what’s going on at those places but when we hired Cal that’s all they talked about is how we “sold our soul” to the devil. If what’s going on at UL and UNC was going on at UK you can bet your ass that those two fan bases would stay up day and night talking about it!

Obsessed Winking

Imagine what Rupp is going to be like when UL goes there

That isn’t all we talked about...but carry on with your baseless drivel.

I don't think this is an inaccurate or unfair portrayal of Jurich or the athletic department under his control.

I do think, though, the adidas angle is trumped up a bit. The mega contract with adidas was just inked. Up until mid-2017, UofL was just a run-of-the-mill adidas school. It just so happens that adidas doesn't have many P5 schools under contract anymore.

I also think that elements of the heavy-handed approach by Jurich exist everywhere. Maybe not to the degree used by Jurich. Maybe so. I don't know. But I doubt that $100M athletics departments across the country use public agency-esque transparency and ethics with so much at stake. Just my opinion.

I have a huge problem with the portrayal of Jurich as it applies to the YUM Center. The YUM Center was portrayed as some sort of boondoggle perpetrated by Jurich and that is as far from reality and gives the real perpetrators political cover and if I might be more blunt...who were the out and out p&*ies doing the negotiating on the other side of the table? Fact is UofL didn't want it down on the River Front and preferentially wanted it there about fourth on the list (The Water Company site being third, the Fairgrounds being 2nd, Oncampus 1st). The reason that price tag got so high had zero to do with anyone at UofL...that price tag explosion was completely the byproduct of it's location and the exorbitant price tag occurring due to the LG&E power station relocation and the cleanup due to it for the better part of $150 million worth of cost. The ironic part is going to be that Papa John Schnatter called out that very cabal as it was happening and stating that it was being done behind closed doors without input by UofL.

They also didn't report that UofL made concessions back in the Spring...over Jurich's obvious objections, but they conceded nonetheless.

both sides of that negotiating table had very strong ties to UL
that is why UL got most of the profits from the YUM and had first rights and almost total control as to it's use (even if the VB team wanted to practice)
why should UL have gotten revenue from concession sales when it was not a UL function?

they were not p&*ies as you claim
they were in on the action

long read but man they went after Jurich

i think a lot of UL fans that are glad Jurich is gone get some vindication from this article

A lot of ACC homers, on this Board - took pleasure on saying what a deal they got - Louisville for Maryland. The timing of the schools moves made it seem that way.

Nice deal. Strippers, restaurant sex, cash payouts and Ohio State/Texas size Athletic dept in the middle of nowhere (no offense - been to Louisville - nice enough - but so is Columbus, Dayton, Indianapolis, and the other 94 cities in midwest that all look the same). A basketball team out revenuing its football team??

The Yum Center deal - really??? They are begging to be made an example of.
I have lots of friends here in Virginia that despise Maryland, it teams and fans - but have told me they would welcome us back and lose the Ville in a heartbeat.

Rock & '86.... come on.... if the shoe were on the other foot, you know damned well you'd be crowing about to anyone that would listen. Your fanbase did exactly that in the Eddie Sutton era as well as when Claude Bassett got caught in illegal football recruiting practices. We've seen the signs that students in opponents' gyms are making to welcome your basketball team. The media gives you a beating 3-4 times a week. This ain't gonna be easy for you.... not for the next 2-3 years. This high horse you guys are trying to climb on is a lie.... you'd be running your yaps endlessly if this was happening to UK.

If I was a Louisville fan I'd be a bit pissed that Louisville's rise is now being totally attributed to Adidas and a corrupt athletic director -- as if it's past tense and was obtained only by corruption. Those stadiums aren't built with out significant investment from local corporations and city / state tax payers.

UofL needs a massive rebranding and PR effort to present a new UofL. Not sure how much they can do that until punishments are finalized though because it's really not over by any means.

There is an element of truth to this. It wasn't necessarily UofL pushing for that location. That location was chosen to revitalize downtown Louisville, increase growth, attract new tenants and bring in more concerts. The big banks financing it also had no problem lending the money over to make it happen.

Jurich / UofL used this to that as leverage and also took advantage of the situation -- especially with their people in place. The city should've been much more forceful and called UofL's bluff, because the chances of UofL not using that arena were (and remain to be) zero.

From the perspective of a Louisvillian, who cares more about the growth of the city moreso than anything else, it's absolutely infuriating to see progress and growth being halted by university athletics. I don't hate UofL. What I do despise, however, is the practice of the "powers that be" in Louisville stifling growth and what is best for the people of the city to prevent competition, which is exactly what Jurich does. It's gone on for decades in Louisville and not just with college sports.

So, I am happy Jurich is out. Hate the way it happened and makes Louisville look like a bunch of low-class guido scumbags, but there is some hope for things changing for the better.

We are superior to the twerps, even if we get the death penalty. Your school doesn’t promote sports....and it shows

Yeah, I know that you may not be the brightest, but I wasn’t a member of rivals back in the 80’s. Laughing

You know its down right awful when the Always cheating conference thinks a school is too corrupt.

A mid level school became the university of adidas at Louisville? Damn, that had to leave a mark.

This is U6’s Kentucky shame. Another bullet in the U6 pellet gun blown to shreds.

nba bringing back the aba champion franchise kentucky colonels would have been great, but jurich wanted the yum center all to hisself

Because UK fans are obsessed, you just proved it.

Oh yea UK fans are obsessed but no other fan base is right? Just because UNCheat had thread after thread about UK hiring Cal back in 09 doesn’t mean you all was obsessed though right?Laughing

You were the only one that brought up UNC in this thread and you mentioned stuff that happened 8 years ago. So who’s obsessed?

We have a cozy relationship to say the least with Under Armour...to say Maryland does not promote sports is simply baffling....I guess I need to know what "promoting sports" means to you.....

I guess "superior" to Terps to you means ripping off the good people of Louisville with the glory that is UL Sports. If 50% of the ESPN story on Jurich is true - y'all got ripped off by a salesman...and Michael Corleone - his Godfather/Coach......who has always been dirty......great coach though.....

I really have nothing against UL or the city of Louisville - great time when I was there 2 years ago for Sweet 16...golf in Indiana at 40 degrees on an Indian reservation casino place...nice course.

But Jurich and Pitino squeezed you folks for millions and millions...while the academic side starved. We could not get away with that for as long as it happened to UL - the Wash Post is too damn close - and scandal at a massive school like Maryland basically in DC would be exposed quickly.

And you’re obsessed with anything not related to UK. Let another team get more attention than you guys and it’ll be Comedy Central.
Have you been under a rock the past couple of years while duke has fielded the GOAT team twice? I would say we have taken quite the backseat to duke lately.

But yes, once again, everything college basketball even when it doesn’t involve UK
