Duke

I think NEXT year will be either something the likes of UK's '15 team in superiority or they'll suffer the same thing UK is dealing with now - overwhelming youth. I don't see an in-between.

Last year was an ability thing. This year is effort. Duke has all the pieces to be a good not great defensive team (zone) and that's all they need to be.
But that zone has looked so soft, especially if the one against UVA is how they typically run it. Good shooting teams like Nova and Purdue would murder that zone from deep.

More overhyped this year or last year?

Yeah this will probably bite me in the ass when they play my beloved Heels, but I’ll worry about that then.

I don't blame you I'd gloat when I could also. Haven't been a lot of that lately for Heel fans. You never know Jalek might be back by then.;)

Good is what top 25ish defensive team? Don't think even if you went zone 40 minutes a game that'd help. Though I'd argue one of the weaknesses of the zone (rebounding) would be negated by your two bigs.

The one against UVA turned a double digit deficit into a 2 point loss. It doesn't have to be UVA good, just has to be decent.

I don’t disagree, but UVA is somehwat limited offensively. Nova and Purdue each have a bunch of Tyler Guys shooting wise that can light it up from deep. The zone that I saw in that game against UVA would get murdered by both of those teams.

Who is Tyler Guy?

Kyle Guys. The point is that a team like Purdue has 5 guys that shoot 40%+ from 3 on high volume. Duke’s zone would get murdered against a shooting team like that.
You said Tyler Guys in your first post then you said Kyle Guys in your second post. Do you want to try a third time at getting his name right? Because you haven’t gotten his name right so far. lol

It might, but if it stops dribble penetration I'll trade threes for twos. Duke's offense isn't exactly pedestrian.

5 of them would be plural. The “s” was intentional. The “Tyler” in the first post was not.

Is that really such a great trade of the team hits close to 50% on the threes can D up the way Purdue does?

What?

Anyway, I’m not incredibly concerned. While I can honestly say it wouldn’t shock me to see Duke lose to a 15 seed, I still feel good. Duke’s shown up for every good team they’ve played.

We also murdered their zone. We just missed wide open shots. And it's not like we're a bad shooting team. Our 3 starting guards all shoot over 40% from 3 as well. I do agree that Purdue and Villanova are better offensive teams than UVA but UVA is no slouch when it comes to outside shooting.

I understand what you’re saying now.

If Purdue hits 50% on threes Duke isn’t winning. Luckily not too many teams regularly hit 50% or D up like Purdue.

Duke has the worst defense in college basketball, the rat does not know how to coach defense.
This makes sense. One of the greatest coaches of all time has no idea how to teach one of the two main components of basketball. Weird how he can overcome this glaring deficiency.
