I'm right and it kind of pisses me off you would argue against me. I don't spew meaningless garbage . Colorado won a Belt in 1990 Brigham Young won a Belt. Nebraska (after besting Tennessee) was a Belt NC in 1997. Colorado is a Belt NC as a result if beating Notre Dame who won the Belt from S.California WIN it. No giving asterisk Yeah Raghib Ismail scored but there was a penalty because Tim James was impeded. I was there RegardlessI was a witness firsthand to the spectacle that IS Colorado's only claim to a national title and I'll be damned If Im going to let you or anyone else take it away. You should know better. CFP is in fact the Belt championship.
    Right Now!

It wasn't exactly yesterday Nebraska was relevant either. They've been consistent very good. I'll even include the past two years since it takes time to right a wrong and turn it around but as far as a championship goes it's 1997 isn't it? Yes it is. Participated in 2001. Lost but were represented to the championship title game. A game they lost . Pretty substantially but it validated Miami FL's claim to the championship nitwitgstanf ng by that fact.
I think there's been a changing of the guard. I thought no it will be a long time before we see a Nebraska winning it all again . I say Arkansas get because they were successful in defending a championship. But it's incredibly hard to maintain that level of success. That's probably why @Redneck&Proud is trying to push all over Colorado's. He's butthurt about Colorado's NC. Colorado earned that championship.
You guys see how greed plays a role. I do.

We Notre Dame fans want to earn our way back into the spotlight. Clearly we still have a way to go so not sure what you mean by everyone wants them on. pedestal. Slowly but surely we will make our way back and win and if we don’t which is what everyone thinks we will continue to work and develop our players. The 2019 roster is the deepest and moat talented the program has been since the Lou Holtz regime from 1987-1893 but we most likely will never have the number 1 classes 3 years in a row with 7-10 5 stars each class. Its a different time with different standards as well as the geographic shift to the south and southeast.

Let me know when Iowa actually makes it to the playoffs. The elite teams will sleep walk through any game they play against Iowa and embarrass them lime Iowa does to some great teams at home once a year. Iowa doesn’t recruit well enough to sniff the playoffs let alone to make it out of the Big 10 west. You lose to Notre Dame 9 out of 10 times and you have zero chance of beating any elite teams in the playoffs. No one takes you seriously. So yeah you continue to punch your way through 3 to 5 loses a year Hawkeye guy

First, Notre Dame has been playing USC since before the Great Depression. Second, there are 18 National Championships between the two schools: 11 for Notre Dame, seven for USC.

. The Iowa Hawkeyes, as the Big Ten West Division Champions, were back in the Rose Bowl after 25 years, last appearing in the 1991 Rose Bowl. Their last win in Pasadena was against the California Bears, 38–12 in the 1959 Rose Bowl.

I think they should commit. I'm not that big in recruiting classes. Yes, I know to be the best probably does require an investment comparable to the best programs. But I think maybe we are overlooking something. I can only apply my own experience. I never played collegiately. Assuming I had it would likely have been to a small college. If at all.
But I think for myself, and I do remember what I was told albeit from another frame of reference my desire regardless was to mold ourselves into a championship team. Let me spare you the suspense. That wasn't what happened. Or remotely close to it. As I recall there were teams better prepared and I guess simply more established which made any attempt to reach to their measure of excellence an impossibility. But we improved. Or should I more appropriately say they improved as it didn't include me.

At the time it was Nebraska who we were modelling ourselves after. Then not long after it was Brigham Young . F.W.I.W. I personally wasn't effected. I wanted to establish our own legacy not live off the breadcrumbs of another program. I don't really remember if we were capable of anything beyond what we were. We are talking about 1985. By then I was done. The championships came after those seasons. And they never really included me but I guess you could say a legacy was begun.

Honestly teams create their own legacy. Yeah it probably includes recruiting and other things coaches and whatever else. But I think each program has a legacy. I don't think a person necessarily has to look beyond himself for a tradition to apply. Notre Dame has a great tradition. I would like to see that built upon. It seems reasonable that there will be further seaons that will require a molding of talent.
Alabama in my opinion is ruining it. Great they can and usually do challenge but there are other programs out there besides Alabama. Taking nothing away. Its like the N.Y. Yankees. Yeah it's fun to see them claim a championship. Nobody's better but it's also just as fun to see someone like Brigham Young or Oklahoma or Michigan or even say a Tulane when they qualify do it.
I want Alabama to stay relevant. But I also want to see a Texas Christian getting it done. In short I like things precisely as they are. To be the best means beating the best. I think that was evident in how the championship went. I think the best team won. I think that's the way it should always be point being it's never about the players. It's about the 6" from chest to back.
I believe it was a Notre Dame player who said it. Recruiting isn't where it's at. It's the heart. IMO.

Yeah and Alabama lost bu the same 28 points. Your point is irrelevant just like your program.

The only two elite teams over the past four years each went 55-4 and split the last 4 national championships. It's been Clemson and Alabama and the rest of us. After dominating Notre Dame and Alabama by 28 points in last year's playoffs, Clemson has moved ahead of Alabama as the nation's top football program and it's no accident. Dabo has kept his staff in tact, upgraded recruiting to a national level, picking 5 stars out of California, Texas, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and winning head to head against all top ten programs, in particular vs Alabama for the top skill player WR T Higgins is one example of beating bama for an elite player out of Alabama. Highschool players are attracted to the family environment and Dabo plays the best players regardless of their seniority and they win championships. But not too long ago Clemson was known as the team who choked in big games and the term "Clemsoning" is loosely defined as, "the act of delivering an inexplicably disappointing performance, usually within the context of a big game Clemson would not show up to play and would lose. Clemson is proof that Georgia, Oklahoma, Notre Dame , LSU, Texas, Texas A&M , Michigan, USC, Ohio State and Nebraska yes Nebraska can win again with coaching staffs they have in place , the difference makers each team has at the QB position along with the depth and talent each one presents on the line of scrimmage. Notre Dame has to improve at the QB position and based on recruiting in the 2019, 2020, 2021 classes, they have finally landed some elite QB's in each class. If Trevor Lawrence and Ian Book switched teams last year, Notre Dame beats Clemson and Alabama and wins their 12 national title. The Gap is the at QB position and it's closing

Georgia lost by 33 points at LSU and shit the bed against an injured Tua. You got beat down by an angry Big 12 team who literally punched you in the mouth and you hit the canvass. Georgia win your games and you will belong in the CFP. It wouldn't have mattered because Clemson would have beat you guys like a drum just like LSU did earlier in the season.

Will they? They've run into a buzzsaw for several seasons so forgive me for stating...I doubt it.

Neutered Dame probably would get the same treatment but....yer just a squeaky independent trending down.

GO back and watch the 2017 game at ND and you'll see a lucky bullshigt TD call that was out of bounds and a bullshit roughing the passer call that kept your 4th quarter FG drive alive. ND was winning the game for 3/12 quarters and Georgia played excellent. But ND could have easily won that game.

No offense but Iowa needs a conference to keep an worthy football program alive. ND stands on its own because we can. We play a national schedule against the best teams from every conference. We have the freedom and flexibility to create our own path to the CFP playoffs and we earn every step of the way on the field unlike Iowa who stands in the conference unemployment line at the end of the year accepting bundled money that Ohio State or Michigan wins for you clowns yearly after actually making their bowl games to support your mediocrity year in and year out. I'm sorry this bothers you but it's essentially the American Dream dumb ass.

Um let's measure national titles , games won, winning percentage and um maybe all americans and heisman trophy winners and lets look back at 1936 when the Associated Press started ranking teams and crowning national champions. A Blue Blood would be measured well passed 2007 jack ass. But its true we have struggled since 1993 with a few successful seasons but like anything in life its cyclical and we will be back.

The Funny things is I am a Nebraska fan and have been since 1980. I'm a son of an ND alum who was born on Campus and I've been with ND my whole life. I will give you this though, If I wasn't born into it I would probably feel the same way you do about ND. I honestly have nothing against Iowa or nay team, I just enjoy posting back and forth but what I can't figure out about you Iowa guys is why you always talk shit when we both know looking under the hood your program it kind of sucks and always has and will so I get a kick out of pushing your buttons because clearly it bothers you guys.

Dude I'm a Nebraska fan and between Nebraska and Notre Dame, Nebraska fell off the cliff and off the planet. You don't seem to remember two undefeated season over the past 5 years? A national title appearance and actually beating teams in your conference for you.. Frost will do magic but lets get ahold of yourself in reference to not winning shit in 30 years. Your last national title was split title in 1997 right with Michigan who won the AP vote in 1997? So that was 22 years ago and we won in 1993 as we deserve

Ok lets start here genius: 2018 Strength of Schedule rankings vs top teams in rankings 1-75. Clearly Notre Dame plays a legit schedule and surpassing Nebraska’s at against the power rankings. Yeah I'm getting tired of hearing about 'if, but', had this happened, and so forth. Let's quit pretending to be about what kind of team you WEREN'T and start focusing on the tram you actually WERE. I think we can all agree there is a big difference between the two.
Actually I couldn't watch the second half of the Sugar Bowl. You might want to ask why.
You want to know why? Because Georgia looked do apathetic and bad one half was all I could take. I didn't want to watch a second half and I doubt I ever will, either. They SUCKED.

An Iowa fan talking trash about Notre Dame, that's rich. You realize Notre Dame at it's worst can't even see Iowa in its rearview, right?

It’s really uncanny the little man syndrome and hatred Iowa fans have for Notre Dame. They’re too dumb to realize that their hatred is in many ways a compliment. I’m 43 years old and I don’t ever remember ND playing Iowa in my lifetime. The average Notre Dame fan DGAF about Iowa and yet they can’t Notre Dame out of their head.

Iowa fans that I know do beget respect where it's deserved to be sure.

What they don't get behind are other fanbases thinking their team is a sacred cow that can't be challenged in writing or the field based on history.

It suits us fine to be discounted. There's been some blue bloods that have waltzed into kinnick stadium thinking the same and have left worse for wear.

So in the spirit of the game....fvck ND

How about you lobby the vaginas in Iowa’s athletic department to schedule a game with Notre Dame or any OOC opponent worth a damn that isn’t perpetually mediocre Iowa St? This shit rings hollow when Iowa doesn’t schedule anybody worth a damn.

You play in the Big Ten West dude, slow your roll. ND has future games on the books with OSU Michigan Michigan St from your own conference plus Alabama and Georgia on top of playing USC and Stanford (you remember Stanford right? They just scored on you again as I’m typing this) every year.

You can talk a lot of shit on ND but one thing you can’t do is attack their scheduling philosophy. Especially when you’re Iowa and your OOC is 2 auto wins and an Iowa St program who at their very peak is a fringe top 25 team.

Go check out the Phil Steele thread. He has 4 picks for the playoffs. ND plays 2 of the 4 on the road this year.

Uh huh...and last year on top of Temple, you scheduled BC, Ball State, NC State...terrifying!!!!.....and those aren't ooc!

Your scheduling philosophy is to schedule crap teams throughout the season and sprinkle in some power houses so the pope keeps sending u cash. Errbody knows this so cool your jets broseph.

Iowa's SOS is tougher than yours.

Bwahahaha! GTFO. If you throw up 10 successive years of SOS I bet ND has the better schedule strength in 7 of those 10 years. You know what, don’t even bother. I’ve ceased to care. I’ve already devoted too much band width talking about a perennial also ran program in Iowa that has never nor will ever be more than a pimple on the ass cheek of college football.

Iowa fan just can’t get enough. First Nebraska and now ND. Priceless. Careful though, next thing you know iowa fan will bring up how Iowa won 5 out of 6 in the 50s and 60s and use it as some sort of justification for their sorry a$$ program.
