I've only been to Dicks once or twice just to browse their fishing gear but like most brick on mortars, they tend to be a bit more expensiveness then say Tacklewarehouse. The convenience can certainly be worth the price difference, especially if you need something right away.

But overall I just haven't felt the need to shop there. At least Cabela's/Bass Pro have unique looking stores that are worth browsing. The kiddos love seeing all the animal mounts and the live fish displays.

Academy sports has the best prices.
I bought my Ruger Precision Rimfire for $400, and my son instantly fell in love with it, so I told him id buy him one also.
Academy doesn't have one within 200 miles. Everywhere else I looked that same rifle was $450.
So I had to pay a extra 50 bucks when I bought it yesterday.
But the boy did get a free "Jims Firearms" tee shirt.

Doesn't affect me. Never bought hunting stuff from them anyway.

I'll still visit them when convenient to a kayak fishing river.

I mean hell ... I want to take a trip down to Tennessee just so I can see the Bass Pro Pyramid store. That place looks amazing.

I stopped in there on my way home from the Bass Pro in Springfield MO. I bought one of their Bass tracker classics, and it saved me a little over 1k to go pick it up myself.
The one in springfield is HUGE. They have juvenile alligators in there, and I watched them feed them. It was awesome.
I had to stop in to the pyrmid on the way home. It was really cool too. Probably a quarter of the bottom floor is this big cool water area with fish swimming around, and rope bridges. Super cool.

Semi-auto is not the same as an assault rifle.

Their sales have been quite sucky since then. It didn’t seem to dawn on the genius that the people who buy guns are often the same people who buy a lot of outdoor stuff too.

It might be an attempted cost-cutting move behind the closed doors. That's a lot of expensive inventory to maintain and I'd be fairly certain their insurance costs went down considerably after they made the move. Who knows. If it was really a morals-based decision I think they'd have done it long ago.

The son apparently is a gun grabber who was influenced by Bloomberg.

PS I should add, it’s the son of the Founder that runs the company.

Assault Rifle means automatic by definition. Ergo no semi automatic is an assault rifle. Nor is an AR-15 a “weapon of war” (though a k-bar knife is).

Those who call them assault rifles or weapons of war are simply lying to you and counting on you not realizing it.

Yea, according to the article, I'm waiting on the Feds to shut Dick's down. Doubt they were EVER properly licensed to sell assault rifles.Eyeroll

But, it was a black and scary rifle, so there's that.

This will open up more retail space for overpriced workout gear, which is what Dicks is really about.

Only 1 of the 3 guns in these pictures is an assault rifle. One of them doesn't even shoot bullets. The other is a hunting rifle.

    Same here.
I told my wife the other day "I think I have enough guns. I just cant see myself having a need for anything new. I can deer hunt, hog hunt, bird hunt, small game, target shooting, etc."
I swear to God, this happened....
She looked at me, smiled, then rolled her eyes and walked away without saying a word.
She knew I would buy new guns.
I have bought 2 this month alone. LOL.

    I have a good wife.

I have been very moderate in my gun buying. I have barely averaged more than one gun purchase per year over the course of my lifetime.

That's because nobody goes in the actual stores anymore..............there is this new thing called online shopping that's pretty cool. You log on to their website and order directly from them what you want, its really kewl.

Relax, you left yourself wide open for that so I had to do it. If you really think about it though all brick and mortar stores are like ghost towns now not just Dicks. I went inside a Macys last weekend at 5:00pm on a Saturday and there was only like 5 people in there, all the saleswomen surrounded us like crackheads looking for a fix because its rare they come in contact with people at work it seems?

Really doesn't affect my life. I'd have to drive past one of the best sporting good stores in the nation to go to a little dicks in the middle of lincoln, and that just doesn't make much sense.
