Yeah Joe only went 4-0 in the Super Bowl, and never threw a interception in the big game.

It's the only explanation. The most ignorant Millennial on earth cannot be this uninformed.

He's a professional quarterback, I think it's very likely he's better than Joe Montegna.

I personally think he’s a top 2 QB. I could see a very small argument for having him just outside the top 5. I can’t emphasize ‘very small’ enough.

There’s no way in hell there are ten QBs better.

My bad, I was talking money(Dereks deal). I evaluate a players career by how much money they made......not the only factor obviously but its the most important factor, afterall its what Pro sports is all about.

    1. Don't know why we're talking about Derek, since that's not who gave the stupid quote.

    2. Derek is much, much better as a QB than David was. In 5 seasons, Derek has thrown for 19,000 yards, 122 touchdowns, and 54 interceptions. In 11 seasons, David threw for 14,000 yards, 65 touchdowns, and 71 interceptions and was a perennial backup. Neither would be in the top 50 QBs of all time though.

    3. Money is not even a small factor when we're ranking players by talent/ability/impact. It has nothing to do with it. The pay of NFL players has continually increased over time, but I don't think anyone's arguing that Marlon Mack is a better RB than Barry Sanders or Jim Brown. Even today, there are 17 quarterbacks out there who make more money than Tom Brady. Would you rather have them or Tom?

    4. The only thing Carr will be remembered for is being the biggest draft bust of all time.

    1. I thought it was Derek up there and got mixed up. I said my bad.

    2. Derek better than brother David....no shit. Who is arguing that?

    3. Money has nothing to do with it? This is professional sports it has EVERYTHING to do with it....

Pick either option A or B...

A: You play in the NFL for 10 years on a ballin' ass team(like Pats) and make 'decent money' and win multiple division titles and get 3 SB rings in your career.

B: You play on a shit team and never even play in a playoff game in your same 10 year NFL career. But you are the best player and secure a 5 year 125,000,000 deal.

Which one would you take because 10/10 players would take option B. Guys are in the NFL for a reason and its not for the love of the game if you catch my drift.

    4. Carr will not be known as the biggest bust ever....so many others claim that like Jamarcus Russell amongst others.

I can think of 5 off the top of my head
    Drew Brees
    Peyton Manning
    John Elway
    Dan Marino
    Terry Bradshaw

Montana is great but what he brings cannot be measured. These other QBs had stronger arms, more athletic and more accurate.

Montana wins based on leadership but let's not forget that he had Bill Walsh and the West Coast offense that was unstoppable
Much different than Pittsburgh's or the Oakland Raiders play action. Run the ball and then throw a 45 yard bomb.
Teams had to adjust to Bill Walsh.

Even if he was a millennial I think it is refreshing

Need more people to challenge these preconceived notions.
I think if you go after Joe Montana you truthfully are setting the stage for Brady.
Everyone wants to call Brady the GOAT when he is playing but there will be another one as soon as he retires.
If you go by Super Bowl wins that will be difficult. It was stupid to judge QBs off a team accomplishment in the beginning.

An argument can more than justly be made for Brady as GOAT all time NFL QB. 6-3 in Superbowl games is incredible and unprecedented.

Montana with a National Championship as a starter in College and 4-0 in the Superbowl with 0 picks. Three Superbowl MVPs in the biggest game on the biggest stage, He also holds Super Bowl career records for most passes without an interception (122 in 4 games) and the all-time highest passer rating of 127.8.

He then took KC to a AFC championship games.

My main point with the comparison between Brady and Montana is the rules of the NFL and how they much much more favor Brady. Not just hits on the QB, remember Jim Burt ABSOLUTELY destroying Montana. Would have been a flag. Or the Giant player launching and spearing Joe in the back.

To say Montana faced JV defenses is so asinine and ludicrous. During Joe's career he faced these players.....
    Reggie White
    Howie Long
    Leroy Selmon
    Bruce Smith
    Randy White
    Dan Hampton
    Keith Millard
    Dave Butz
    Mike Singletary
    Lawrence Taylor
    Ted Hendricks
    Jack Lambert
    Andre Tippett
    John Anderson
    Carl Banks
    Mike Haynes
    Mel Blount
    Frank Minifield
    Lester Hayes
    Ronnie Lott
    Ken Easley
    Deron Cherry
    Joey Browner
    Nolan Cromwell

Plus some of the best defense in the history of the game.
Bears, Giants, Eagles, Cowboys, Vikings, Rams, KC

Joe Montana dominated the NFC during a time where the road to the Lombardi trophy went through the NFC. When the 49ers won their 1st, it snapped a 3 year Super Bowl win streak by the AFC which had dominated most of the previous decade or so.

Between that 1st and 4th Super Bowl victory, the NFC only lost lost 1 of those games. That means that Joe Montana had to dominate at the highest level while playing in the conference that routinely had the best competition.

The starting quarterbacks Joe Montana faced off against weren't too bad either in the Super Bowl. Ken Anderson, Dan Marino, Boomer Esiason, and John Elway. That's a pair of Hall of Famers and a couple of solid talents who are arguably the best QB's to ever represent the Cincinnati Bengals.

It’s hard to compare Montana’s era with more current eras when the rules and technology are different. Number one, it’s a whole different animal when QB’s are taking a lot of shots like Montana did and aren’t protected like they are now. Number two, don’t underestimate how much the sticky gloves receivers wear these days has impacted the game. Receivers are making shoestring and one handed catches that are glove related. It means QB’s don’t have to be as accurate and the completion percentages are quite a bit higher than the 80’s.
