Covid: Your Town

I am skeptical of an effective vaccine for a novel coronavirus created in 7 months when there are zero effective vaccines for any other coronaviruses that have been around for hundreds of years. If I were required to have one for whatever reason, I don’t think I would be scared to get it, but I don't think I will bother on my own terms. Just me. I don't get flu shots either.
Never had a flu shot, and get the flu maybe once very 5 or so years, if that. Get the brown bottle flu much more often.

I might have gotten the flu one time ever. I get pretty nasty head colds every so often, but for the most part, I don’t get sick that often. As soon as I feel off, I take airborne 3 times a day for 3 days. Been doing that for a couple of years and it seems to fend off the funk.

I would worry most about my 1 and 4 yr old sons. I'm not an anti vaxxer--both my boys are vaccinated. I just have a hard time wrapping my head around giving them a vaccine that they don'y really need and esp one that is completely unknown and gone thru many many trials to determine side effects. I don't get the flu shot---nor do I think I ever will. Nobody in my family does b/c we just don't need it.

If it was required to fly/travel....then I'd have to bite the bullet and get it.

I’m with you. I have never gotten a flu vaccine. We stopped vaccinating our 2 dogs years ago. Why do they need a rabies shot every couple years? It’s a freakin vaccine. It either takes or it doesn’t. Our vet was very knowledgeable on this and agreed. Oh, and F the law. Simply a moneymaker IMO.

Agreed, I’ll get a covid vaccine if it’s mandated, won’t rush in to be one of the first.

Gym has been open for 3 months now. 0 coronavirus cases. I will say tho, I get aggravated when I see a few of the regulars not wiping down equipment they use. At least make a damn effort to comply with gym rules!!! Fvck

Some people's reasoning for not wanting the vaccine might be considered stupid....but not getting in line for a first gen vaccine pushed thru in a freakishly short time with all kinds of red tape removed and corners cut, is certainly not a stupid stance.

Sure, point taken.

Suppose I am speaking out of the frustration generated by people who believe vaccines are all part of some conspiracy, and don’t understand or acknowledge that vaccines have managed to eradicate a number of devastating illnesses. F’ing Jenny McCarthy...

You don’t get the flu vaccine? Why not? It’s not 100 percent effective, but it IS effective, both at protecting you and also protecting people you come into contact with.

Nobody in my family ever has. I can't remember the last time I have had the flu. Our bodies were meant to fight off illness if you keep yourself healthy.

If you don't get the flu, why would you get the flu shot? I am also tired of hearing about it not just to keep me from getting sick, it's to keep other people from getting sick. I take reasonable precautions to avoid getting sick, you do the same.

Current flu vaccine‘s effective rate is as low as 30%. Different strains make it difficult for a one size fits all.

How many people does that actually describe? 1%?

I’d say most are just hesitant to trust a company like Moderna, which was on the verge of bankruptcy before Covid and the $483 million gift that fell into their laps. Even they couldn’t believe it.

The fact that 20% of the human guinea pigs in their first trial had major side effects doesn’t help matters (they only allowed the healthiest specimens to participate).

Failed company, shaky trials, experimental DNA-altering technology that many scientists consider unethical, zero liability.

Where do I sign up?

Governor Cooper announced yesterday that outdoor venues in North Carolina can open at 7% capacity starting October 2nd.

Oh boy! We must have been really compliant with his orders for him to award us so generously. On the bright side, this means that Duke football should be back to full capacity.

Sadly, more than 1%.

And where did you get the data that 20 percent of participants in the trial had major side effects? Link? Because that doesn't sound correct.

And what is the DNA altering tech?

They acknowledged in a press release that 20% of the volunteers had "serious adverse events."

I think most of the outcomes are still unpublished.

Moderna's vaccine plugs a piece of coronavirus genetic code into human cells which alters DNA throughout the body and reprograms cells to produce antibodies.

Speaking of DNA altering tech, if you haven't, watch Human Nature on NOVA/PBS. It's really fascinating what's going on with CRISPR.

Mask up, keep kids out of school, keep adults from making adult decisions with their own lives. This has nothing to do with the election though.

Thing is, a lot of people called this from the very beginning and got shit on by the usual suspects. We shot ourselves in the foot shutting the country down
I don't disagree with the initial shutdown. You know, the 14 days to slow the spread? And measures needed to be taken to eliminate large gatherings. But for it to still be going on, some places more than others, is ridiculous. We are basically just afraid to get sick at this point.

Projections are out that say we'll likely hit 400,000 dead by Jan 1. That dwarfs our combat losses for the entirety of WW2, all in the course of about 8 or 9 months.

That's mind-blowing.

Good news is that they feel that expanding mask wearing can reduce that by quite a bit,... but mask wearing is apparently on the DECLINE nationally. I don't get it... it's so simple?

Also in the "good news" category, Africa seems to be avoiding what some feared would be a massive hit...

Apparently they did a good "continental" job at ramping up testing and contact tracing, and apparently mask wearing is widespread. Gotta imagine that there aren't also as many fat Africans as fat everyone-else.

On a personal note, I was super annoyed yesterday... took my son to go get a haircut . We walk in, and one of the guys getting a cut isn't wearing a mask, despite it being the law. He leaves, but then another guy comes in. They give him a mask, but then he proceeds not to wear it. WTF? Like, you see everyone there wearing one, and you know the barbers are stuck in this windowless room the whole time... why wouldn't you wear one? And then, as a business owner, what are you doing? It's the law... are people just too uncomfortable to enforce this stuff in their own business? There were several people who went to go wait outside, and I suspect that is why... I don't get it. We were only there five minutes when the guy was there, but it just struck me as so dumb and self-centered; it is so simple to just put a mask on.

On a positive note, had an outdoor hangout with a friend last weekend. He got sick as a dog a day or two later. Thankfully negative covid test, especially since I saw both my mom and my inlaws after that.

Even the CDC has confirmed a very low true death rate. I think everyone knows by now that that figure includes people with comorbidities, presumed cases, etc. It's pretty meaningless.

But yeah....if you're already dying, you should probably avoid catching Covid. Or the flu. Or a cold. Or letting someone put you on a ventilator for a month.

So we are going to double the deaths from the past 7 months in the next 3 months.

Yeah, this douchewagon is part of the problem. He is addicted to fear porn. Can't quit jerking off to covid.
The totals have been sketchy the entire time. Eventually true numbers will be released and we can put to rest some of the outlandish totals being tossed around.

Panic in the streets! What a fvcking joke. And that GD Cooper. 7%...WTF??? He and old blackface up north in Va are couple power hungry bitches.

Over/under on how long he stays at 3 before moving backwards?
I don’t know about that but I bet there will be multiple stages of phase 3 as far as the restrictions on bars reopening. Bars can reopen outside at 30% capacity starting tomorrow then at some point he’ll probably increase it to 50% outside capacity at some point then he’ll probably increase it to 75% outside capacity then he’ll increase it to 100% outside capacity. It’ll probably be several months before he lets bars get back to normal with inside service.

Total US deaths: All causes. 2020 is a projected number that we haven’t reached yet.

2018-2,838,000
2019-2,855,000
2020–2,839,000

There are a bunch of backlog deaths that aren't accounted for in these numbers. But the point is definitely relevant. Because the excessive deaths will be impossible to pinpoint the cause. Drug overdoses, suicides and domestic murders are all up substantially. That and cancer deaths have skyrocketed. This is why they are going back months going over death certificates and assigning unrelated deaths to covid. Basically anyone who has died after testing positive for covid over the past few months is listed as a covid death. Even if they tested positive in March and died of a heart attack in August. The CDC justifies it by saying that we don't know if the heart attack wouldn't have occurred had they not contracted covid months before. The majority of covid deaths are face saving deaths to justify the measures. Obviously covid is a serious virus that is killing people who would normally be living their lives. But not to the extent that is being advertised. Flu deaths, heart disease deaths and natural cause deaths are all at ridiculously low numbers this year. Ask yourself why. Or don't. Just believe everything you're being told.

Latest info from WHO is a death rate of 1 in 1000 infections worldwide? CDC 1 in 997. So .001? Sounds good to me.

Stop spreading misinformation around. I agree that everything should be opened up and we should be back to normal besides a mask requirement and no large gatherings but to say that physicians are faking the cause of death as COVID is asinine.

The physician assigns the cause of death on a certificate, not the board of directors on a health care system, The idea that hospitals are faking COVID deaths to get more money doesn't hold water unlike what you and your conspiracy loving MB brethren think. I've spoken to a half dozen doctors in my family and amongst my close friends who've confirmed it.

Can you provide proof that suicides, drug overdoses, cancer deaths and domestic murders have skyrocketed this year?

The CDC shows Excess Death totals for the last 4 years and we've had 250,000+ excess deaths in 2020 compared to the years past.

Maybe half of this number of people would've died within the next year due to serious comorbidities and complications but the other half would've lived another 5, 10, 20, 30 years or longer. I have a 29 year old acquaintance in my area who died from COVID back in April.

This is the worst crisis in our lifetimes but we also can't destroy our economy. I don't envy our policymakers who're trying to find the appropriate balance.

I have never made the claim that hospitals are making up covid deaths. You got me mixed up with someone else. I also didn't say that overdoses, suicides and domestic murders have skyrocketed. I said they have increased significantly, as in enough to explain part of the reason for excess deaths. I also made it clear that it would be impossible to pinpoint the exact reason for the excess deaths. I do have a correction to make. It is the death rate of cancer patients that has skyrocketed, not the overall deaths. Surprisingly, our death totals attributed to cancer are actually down. That could point to some other reasons, tbough. We won't go there.

It is well documented that suicides among college aged adults are up significantly on a year to year basis. This year it is also rising among middle-aged adults. This may or may not have anything to do with covid, that's not really the point. The point is that the increase in suicides is adding to the excess deaths.

Drug overdoses have been increasing year after year, so I am surprised that you would be surprised that they would increase in a year like this one. Again, not that it has everything to do with covid, just that it is adding to the excess death numbers.

The domestic murders, just look it up. They have increased significantly. You can look it up as easy as I can. I am not pretending that they play a huge role in excess deaths. Just that some of the excess deaths can be attributed to them.

It is not a conspiracy that they are reviewing death certificates and tying some unrelated deaths to covid. For shit's sake, they did it for a man who died in a motorcycle accident. Again, look it up. I am not saying that the vast majority of covid deaths are fraudulent or anything like that. Just acknowledging the fact that how we caount covid deaths isn't necessarily transparent.

3,500 business have closed or filed for bankruptcy this year bc of the shutdown.

Hospitalizations are creeping up, so that is a clear indicator that we are not where we want to be. I just hope that we can stop playing the blame game and move forward with a more level headed and united approach. Of course my opinion on how to do that is different from a lot of other people's. But still. Once everyone accepts that this is a contagious virus and it is going to run its course regardless of how long we drag it out, we can focus on protecting the susceptible and live with the virus instead of running from it. I am not happy that Europe is seeing a significant surge in cases and deaths, but hopefully by pointing it out, we can stop with the EuROpE hAndLeD iT So mUcH beTteR nonsense.

So scientists are finding that the biggest culprit right now, in terms of spreading covid, are large family gatherings.

This is a bit scary, given that Thanksgiving is coming up.

Listen, forget national news for a second... all of you on here, just please be careful, especially if you have loved ones who are at increased risk. If you look at what Chris Christie had to say about being completely alone and isolated in an ICU bed worrying about dying... my dad was in the infectious disease ward the week before he died, and even though we could see him, it was absolutely scary, that every doctor and nurse was all buttoned up coming in.

So guys, just be careful with your loved ones. Thanksgiving and the holidays are awesome, but just be careful, and if you can make changes this one year, it might be worth it.

I really don't want anyone on this forum posting about a loved one suffering or dying when it could have been avoided.
