Christmas toys?

I don't even want to know the weird stuff the likes of the people on this board get from their significant others, friends, or themselves that they pretend are from real people they actually know.

Okay, what fun stuff did everyone get?
Got new travel gear.....fishing stuff. IU headphones. Clothes, etc....Best gift though? It was from my son. A silver whistle ,with the words, "Good Call, dad" engraved on one side. On the other, it said--"Your biggest fan(his name). Pretty awesome shit.

I'm 35, don't get shit anymore. Now I get my kid stuff I want to play with. This year he got a PlayStation VR headset.

We set a $125 budget. Wife got me a golf swing stick (the ones with the ball at the end), Ruby Edition Trivial Pursuit, a Millennium Trivia game, gift card to Home Depot/Bdubs and gift card to Google Play.

Yes I love trivia

New kitchen aid attachment that can strain fruits and veggies for my tomato sauce making (I’ve started growing tomatoes, peppers, and onions), nice FSU pullover halfzip by Johnnie-O, Hugo boss watch to replace one that got stolen last year, a cutting board that was made from the glass of the Champaign bottle from our first anniversary dinner, new golf glove, and a few other odds and ends.

Oh and my sister in law had a real cool painting made of our house. Like, she took a picture of our house from the front with our dog in the front yard and had a painting commissioned with “our first house” on it. Pretty cool.

What does being 35 have to do with receiving gifts. My mom is 73 and I still get her things.

May not seem like a gift to anyone else but my grand dad who was my best friend passed away August 25th of this year. Growing up just a couple houses down from my grandparents I spent most of my childhood at their house. That’s how my love for Kentucky basketball started. Anyway to make a long story short after my grandpa passed all I could think about was how bad it was gonna suck to see somebody else living in his house. A few days later my dad and aunt set me down and told me they wanted me to have the house because my grandpa had told them he wanted me and my son to have it. I don’t care to say that it brought me straight to tears. I moved into his house October 10th and on December 22nd I got the deed to the house. Like I said, may not be a big deal to most but it meant the world to me! Merry Christmas everybody!!!

I collect knives so my sister and my niece each bought me a 2 piece Bowie knife set. They were supposed to be 2 different 2 piece Bowie knife sets but somehow they both got me the exact same 2 piece Bowie knife set so my sister is going to return the set that she got me and order the other set so hopefully she orders the right set this time because I think that’s what happened with the set she ordered because I think she ordered the wrong set because she probably glanced at it and thought it was the right set. I also got a gift card to Bass Pro Shops from my nephew. Everything else I got was clothes.

I'm a huge bass fisherman. Got a Shimano Stradic reel. I used to be a huge Pflueger guy--And still am to an extent. But went on a trip with a buddy, and he had me try out his Shimano. Fell in love with it. So the wife got me one. Got a couple new soft bait bags. Some RealTree gear; I love RealTree. Just odds and ends, really----Except for the reel of course.

Nice! Spinning or casting reel?

I fish panfish mainly locally and walleye/pike in Canada. I’ve got a couple Stradic CI4’s on my walleye poles. I’ve got pflueger president’s on my panfish and pike poles. I like them for the price. All are spinning. Don’t have a casting setup yet.
My walleye setup bare weighs about 9oz. Don’t think you can get anything lighter.

I've been Callaway (outside of wedges) for a while but really want to try those.
I almost went with the Apex Pro's. Great club. You know I've always been a Titleist AP2 player, but Taylor Made has been after me to be a on staff and our pro is already on staff. On top of that, the 790's are great clubs. I am 44 and could use a few less degrees on my irons as I lose speed.

I am sticking with Vokey wedges and one of my Cameron putters though.

I haven’t been fitted in a while so was thinking of doing that this spring. I’m also 44 but distance has never been my strength so anything that helps me get a few yards helps but with irons that means anything that helps me get pure contact helps obviously. That is where I’ll get my best distance as SS for me is around mid-90s. I also have never been a great compressor of the ball. I am a bit of a picker, which I’ve come to terms with. As you know, with all the loft differences irons can be deceiving. I have the CF 16s right now.

I bought the SM7 wedges last year and sold them to stick with my SM5 lob and gap wedge. Just like the feel of the older ones more.

I have a few set ups of Sm-6's. Not as big a fan of the 7's.

Try the 790's. I would be willing to bet you will pick up speed and distance without changing anything.

I may. I’m assuming there is little to no offset? That is definitely important to me. I dislike hardly any offset.

All spinning. I have the Pflueger president, as well. Not a fan of their rods, so I go with Shakespeare, or Shimano. Pan fish, I use an Eagle claw, 6", medium action rod, with a Pflueger spinning reel; 10 bearing, with a graphite body. Its great for crappie and bluegill.
I'm mostly a soft bait type of guy. My uncle owns his own fishing team--Team Supreme Fishing--and makes his own baits. So I get a lot of stuff from him. His shop is called Lost River Lure's. Great stuff.

6' medium for panfish? That must be a tank.

My panfish rod is a G Loomis IMX 6'6" UL with the Pflueger President. We mainly just pitch 1/16 or 1/32oz jigs w/ minnows or waxies for crappies and gills.

Not at all. Its a feather weight rod. Medium action. I pitch 1/16 jigs, up to 3/8. I normally use a 1/6 oz rooster tail, chartreuse in color, and/or silver. I'm big with crickets, when going after crappie's.
The graphite body reel, Pflueger, is extremely light. Its a great set up, that if the situation presents itself, I can handle a good size bass.

Damn you use some big jigs. I hate using 3/8 even for walleyes. I like to fish light as possible. 1/8 or 1/4 for walleyes. 3/8 if the wind is a mutha****er.

The lake we mainly fish for panfish is full of snags. So lighter is better when cast/retrieve. I refuse to fish with bobbers as well.

I must mention as well---I'm a huge smallie guy. We fish Lost River here in Indiana. Biggest smallies I have ever caught; 2-3lbs all day long. About 2 years ago, I lost a damn monster there. Had a large mouth hit---God damn smallie comes out after it; Smallmouth are extremely aggressive, and territorial. I had my son hand me his rod, and sure enough, this monster whacks it. It eventually swam in between my legs---Yes, in between. Then I made a rookie mistake---Grabbed my line: SNAP!!. Dude I was so fcking mad, and heartbroken. This dude was every bit of 5+lbs. Just a hoss.

I very seldom use 3/8. But quite often use 1/6. Really depends on where I'm fishing. If fishing a lake, like Lake Salinda, with a ton of stick-up's, I'll use something with a little backbone. Or if pitching into pads, and/or grass lines. If out in the middle, I'll use a much smaller jig; 1/16th.

2-3 lbs is bait around here. My wife bought me a Daiwa Tanacom 750 electronic reel. I am probably going to pair it with either a shakespeare Ugly stick medium/Heavy pole or or the Penn Carnage II pole. I've got a Penn spinncaster rod reel combo for salmon fishing so might stay with the Penn to stay brand loyal. The Daiwa is just for halibut fishing. Nothing tires you out faster than having to recheck bait and having to reel 600 ft of line with a 3-5 lb weight on it just to rebait and send it back down again. You almost pray that you don't catch a fish right after a bait check.

You're not talking about small mouth bass, are you? State record in Indiana is 7lbs, 2oz. Biggest I've caught was 4lbs. THose dudes fight like hell, man.
Nope I am talking big ass halibut here in Alaska. State record is 438 lbs. The biggest I've caught was 135 lbs. This year i caught 2 60 lb halibut and I've caught 2 monster king salmon (weighed about 25 lbs each). Going next weekend as part of my Christmas present with some coworkers and the CEO of the hospital that I work for. Should be a blast.

Gotcha. Sounds like a great time. But, well, I have a rule when it comes to fishing:

I don't fish for something bigger than me, and that could eat me.Laughing
