I mean, you can take it however you want to depending on where he goes. Are you UM guys gonna say you actually didn't want him, if he doesn't choose UM? My uneducated opinion is that he does not choose MSU. Izzo has been watching him since he was in 7th grade. Some of his comments about being considered an MSU-lean because of growing up locally, sound eerily similar to Brian Bowen when he was asked if he was basically an MSU lock (which he vehemently denied)

    http://www.mlive.com/sports/2016/09/brandon_johns.html

Because of this, most think Johns-to-Michigan State is a guarantee

    He says that's premature.

"A lot of people have the expectation that since I'm from Lansing, that I'm going to go to Michigan State," Johns said. "But it's my choice. I'm going to make the decision that's best for me. If I want to get out of the state, then I'm going to go out of state. If I don't want to, then I'll stay in-state. But ultimately, it's up to me. I've got to worry about me."

In any case, MSU has Thomas Kithier a 6'9" stretch 4 and now Gabe Brown a 6'8" SF that play similar positions to Johns. They're also still heavily recruiting Joey Hauser 6'9" PF, Marcus Bingham 6'10" PF, and Trevion Williams 6'8" PF/C.

I love how we abandoned the off-season thread and just went back to posting in the in-season thread.

From what I gather, Johns isn't a top priority for MSU but he'd still be a take if that makes sense. If MSU lands another forward type like Hauser than I'm not sure Johns has a spot.

Anyways, as things stand right now, if Johns commits to UM Id consider that a crootin win over MSU

Our mods honestly don't really cover basketball. It's more a couple insider type members who do that.

Nobody really knows what Johns is gonna do imo

I don't care what it would be considered: if Purdue winds up with the kid, I'll be happy.

We're recruiting a lot of the same front court type guys as MSU, which generally doesn't bode well for Purdue. However, our top big man recruit is Emmanuel Duwuonna, a raw but athletic 5 man that plays his ass off, is an eraser defensively, and can get out in transition...and MSU isn't after him. Personally I like him much more than Williams. Also, glad to see Brown on board and hope it helps with Johns.

Purdue is pretty much looking to fill every spot in the 1-5 in this class.
1/combo: Keyshawn Embery, Eric Hunter, Robert Phinisee (one opening)
Wing: Robby Carmody, Damezi Anderson, Musa Jallow (two openings)
4: Brandon Johns, Marcus Bingham (& kinda Aaron Henry) (one opening)
5: Duwuonna, Trevion Williams (one opening)

Painter doesn't have a great track record at closing on these top type recruits, so we'll see. But I really like the guys we're in on right now – would be a much more athletic and mobile lineup than we've seen in a while.

Narrative depends. If we get another commit or 2 beforehand it will be that he probably didn't have a spot, or at least would have less PT.

If we only have 3 commits when he commits idk

Hauser most likely will go to Marquette and if not them to Wisky.

Purdue's Carsen Edwards and Maryland's Kevin Huerter both made the final roster for the U19 Team USA.

His skillset would be great at UW but I'm not overly excited about Hauser as others are. He'll always be a mediocre athlete. We're not short on those at UW. I really started to like Oturu this spring but he decided to play for a loser program. xoxo @Deathclutch. Jarvis Thomas is another name that we could offer if Hauser ends up elsewhere. Athleticism is great but not much of a shooter. We've got plenty of non-shooters as well. So it comes down to Hauser being the best fit basically and hopefully we can land him. Would be a decent two man class w/ Herro.

Oturu is going to be a beast once he puts on some muscle. He has been good this AAU season.

Not a huge fan of Thomas. He is an incredible athlete but his skills leave some to be desired. Wouldn't be upset if we landed him but I'd rather get Race Thompson instead.

I know both are kind of in line if Hauser goes elsewhere. Neither are game changers but wouldn't be bad 2nd choices. I really miss having 5 guys on the floor that can all shoot. Not sure if Thomas, Thompson, or Oturu are any good at it. I know Hauser can knock them down.

Race can shoot it. He is definitely a stretch 4. Jarvis Thomas has a similar game to Jordan Murphy. Undersized athletic PF without much of a perimeter game. Thomas is a bit quicker than Murphy though. Oturu projects to be a Center. He is not a good shooter at this point.

FR Nunge is up to 220+ and looks like it Garza is 245 lbs, both have been working with White and Olaseni as both are back from playing over seas.

they will be fun to watch this upcoming season, Thursday and its time for game 2 of the PTL, key matchup to watch Kriener vs Nunge

I agree with this. Herro is truly special...I just don't feel the same way about Hauser. Have seen them both play a lot. Remember this name, jwardelt, George Conditt. He's a rising player this Spring. Going to be at UW advanced camp.

Conditt just underwhelmed at Purdue's team camp, then got injured. Painter didn't offer. Has visited, and clearly has potential. Will be interesting to see how he develops. Good prospect but don't see us offering until others commit elsewhere.

Yep complete agree. He's so much of what we've been lacking. Just hope Painter can get some 2018 talent to put beside Carsen during his jr and sr years.

    Saw this on our homeboard

BSince Beilein started coaching at Michigan in the fall of 200, here are the b1g first rd picks that werent top 50.....

Numbers are based off composite rankings (RSCI)

    Michigan (5)
    Trey Burke
    Tim Hardaway Jr
    Nik Stauskas
    Caris Levert
    DJ Wilson

    Indiana (2)
    Victor Oladipo
O.G. Anunoby (let's just assume he gets taken)

    Ohio State (1)
Evan Turner (ET was just barely outside of top 50 consensus)

    Michigan State (1)
    Denzel Valentine

    Wisconsin (1)
    Frank Kaminsky

And beilein still cant get top kids.

that's incredible identification and development by Beilein.

Would still say that Bo Ryan is the master here in terms of identifying guys and maximizing their talents, but Beilein is really impressive in this regard.

well they are bragging about 4* players making it to the NBA. WOW what a novel concept 4* players being drafted and a coach getting praised for such accomplishment
as for Burke ESPN rated him a 4*

stauskas would've been a 5 star if he wasn't white, so Beilein doesn't even deserve credit for that one.

Ok thanks. I'm trying to follow along with the advanced camp today. Lotta talent in 2019/20 in Wisconsin. More '20 than '19 but we should get our share from that group.
