I read that several schools had recruiting weekends filled with top targets. Michigan got several commits, including a few silent commits, that include the top safety (according to 247) a 4-star Center and a 4-star SDE flip from WVU. How did your school's recruiting weekend go?

A player that has pledged his commitment to the school, but hasn't publicly announced it.

Landed 4, I want to say. 1 of which is a stud OT for 2021. We picked up our "Phil parker special" which is always exciting. Our Dcord always finds some guy off the path that no one has heard of and they come in and turn out to be really.productive players most of the time.

UM is doing a lot of that in the Northeast, due to Don Brown's connections from when he was at BC.

It was Ohio State's biggest recruiting weekend of the year. So far the only commitment coming out of it is the 4th highest rated CB in the country Clark Phillips out of La Habra, CA.

Could have several more commit this week.

I kept getting notices of new commits, but haven't really started following yet this year so don't know much about them. I think we got five and supposedly one silent waiting for his "announcement video" to be finished. Yeah, recruiting is a lot different today than it was twenty years ago.

What's fun is, after your coach has proven they know what they are doing way more than some rating service, you really start to pay attention to those picks.

Absolutely. One of my favorite players on the team was a 2-star out of Rhode Island, Kwity Paye. I think he's gonna do big things now that he's one of the starting defensive ends.

Speak of the Devil.... Iowa just picked up a commit from a safety out of Alabama.

Anyone know much about him? Decent film.

To be fair ... it's about time Ohio State started to grab some elite defensive talent. It's been an offensive class thus far.

Iowa has the most commits before July ever with 18, the best is SDE AA Jones. he could come in and take Epenesa starting spot if Eppy goes pro next summer

not bad replace a former US Army AA with another AA [formerly US Army AA].

^ if anyone is feeling kind feel free to let McIlroy know Logan Jones is coming in as a Dtackle prospect and won't play for a year when he gets here. If not, let him remain in the dark.

Seems like many of the offensive recruits are waiting to see how the new offense looks. I'm actually surprised at how slow Michigan's CB recruiting has been considering they've had great recent success with guys like Jourdan Lews, David Long, Lavert Hill, etc.

We got a bunch over the weekend and a couple more announcing. Lots of Dantonio Plan A guys but doesn’t always translate to recruiting rankings. We’ve got a bunch of 3* kids and a 4*.

You mean Ohio State's offense? The recruiting on offense has been absolute fire. It's the defense recruits that we're waiting to commit.

Ah, yeah. You guys seem to be taking more 3* prospects on the offensive side of the ball this year but they must be showing the coaches something they like at camps.

Most of Ohio State's interior players are 3* in-state kids this year. In fact, the only one who isn't is OT Grant Toutant from Warren, Michigan. (Granted they have the top rated OT and OC committed as well)

The only thing Ohio State still really needs on offense is a RB and TE, the rest needs to be defense. Specifically LB and DT.

Not sure. I don’t follow recruiting very closely. I’m guessing like 20? MSU doesn’t have big classes because Dantonio redshirts a lot of guys. Lots of 4 or 5 year players on our team and we don’t “transfer” a lot of guys out of the program either.

These days it's super tough to figure out exactly how many scholarships you can afford to offer.

For instance, I assumed Ohio State would have a smaller class again this year but I keep hearing it will end up being a Top 5 class. Only way that happens IMHO is if they grab the usual 22-25.

I didn't think that was possible for the year, but obviously the coaches have a better idea on who will wind up transferring or declare early.

Based on the numbers ... I would think Ohio State would end up with a class close to 20 and a Top 10'ish finish. But who really knows .... Last years class was the smallest class I can ever remember for Ohio State. We're still a pretty young team.

That transfer portal is a game changer for sure. Before you know it, you have 10 guys transferring, and those spots need to be filled.

Yep. You'll see more "one and done" scholarships on any given year with the portal. Keeping track of scholarships is becoming a full time job ... lol

I thought it would be a small class for A&M this year also, but Jimbo keeps saying 25...A&M has 6 seniors on ship, and natural attrition per year is around 4, so to get to 25, Jimbo will have to process 15 players

I'm kinda surprised the recruiting services don't do a better job at breaking down the projected scholarship counts for the year.

Frankly, I feel recruiting in general isn't as exciting as it once was. There use to be a lot more juicy "rumors" and "gossip" throughout the year. Now everything is either pretty transparent via social media or behind a pay wall.

The Ohio State recruiting boards use to have heavy traffic ... the past few years ... absolutely NOTHING.

Historically speaking it takes a Rivals points score of around 1600 to finish inside the top 30. If your team has 18 or more commitments and your team score is less than 1400 chances are your team finishes 30th or lower.

The top ten looks like the usual suspects. After the top ten I look at the number of commits and the rivals points score.

High number of commits with a low score equals disappointment on early signing day.

I didn't realize both of Ohio State's QB commits for 2020 and 2021 were in Atlanta for the Rivals 5 Star Challenge.

That might prove to be rather useful ....

    2 things from Jack's interview ....
Bijan Robinson might be headed to Columbus.

And Ohio State might take another elite WR in this class? That would be insane.

Easily the best offensive recruiting class Ohio State has produced if that happens. Day and Hartline are really killing it on the west coast this year.
