I was arguing with a friend about this. Who do you guys have?

It’s Pitino and it really isn’t close, to me. There’s baggage that makes “who would you hire” more complicated (not factoring in age), but purely as a coach, Pitino is one of a kind.

It is hard for me to ever argue that Pitino is not the best active coach if he is indeed active.

Probably being successful at every level of college basketball across multiple eras?

He’s not the only one to do that.

If you asked this question a year ago, no one would have said Pitino. Obviously, everybody’s wildly impressed by what he’s done this season. Good year, but not enough to prove that he’s clearly on a different level than everyone else.

By Kenpom, the best team he’s played all year is #28 Marquette. He lost to #29 Baylor and #34 Georgia, and beat #35 UConn and #37 Creighton. The rest are mostly scrubs. Not exactly murderers row.

If this question was asked last year it'll be Hurley.

I like Pitino but there's coaches out there that are his equal and probably better.

Pitino for sure.

Next year is a big one for self. Doesn’t seem like an upward trajectory. Really some head scratching personnel choices at the 1 and 4 with the guys he stuck with vs what he could’ve had.

Hurley — dude just won back-to-back national championships and every game in both tournaments was won by double digits with the closest game being a W by 13 points. Pitino - close 2nd.

Yep, but as you can see in this thread, this is reevaluated every year, and Hurley's old news.
