He's a goofball, but damn it he's our goofball. (Who I wish was fired two years ago but since he wasn't we are stuck and hopefully he continues to coach like he did in the second half of last season and doesn't revert back to garbage coaching that got him on the hot seat)

No, and I think BTN+ is just stupid, especially since some teams have to play on it more than others. If you pay for a tv package that includes BTN you should get to stream those games online for free. Instead, I have to pay for 2 months of this shit because Minnesota plays 7 times on BTN+.

Crean seems like a good dude. A bit weird, but a nice guy.

Well it's going to take a great effort to be any worse. I'm confident they can do it though.

Ryan Cline joins Basil Smotherman in serving 3 game suspensions (including the exhibitions) for possession. Smoking drugs ruins lives, kids.

Shockingly IU had a clean offseason. The kids finally seemed to get the message after Holt was kicked off last offseason

    In exhibition news...
Freshman Green looked really good tonight. Led the team with 17 points. Also OG worked on the 3 this offseason.

Green and Jones impressed me, Newkirk was efficient, OG was 4/7 from 3, Morgan played some PG. They still play too fast and will always play to fast as long as Crean is here, so i expect some growing pains until they learn to play together.

No way. Cline AND Smotherman? I thought both of them were good guys (meaning keeping their noses clean). Dang.

Yea, kind of disappointing to see. Especially for Smotherman, who needs to really stand out to crack big minutes this season. At least they will both be back for Nova.

I was surprised that Cline got busted in July and Purdue just announced it yesterday. Was Cline hiding it from them? Smotherman's suspension was announced a while back right?

As Western Michigan's P.J. Fleck has been discussed as a Purdue football coaching candidate, there have been comparisons between he and Crean. Kind of strange, unique guys who will turn off a good deal of people, but really connects with his players and seems to genuinely care.

I watched some of that Western Michigan - Ball State game last night. Fleck has put together a damn good roster. He would be a great get for Purdue in my opinion.

Talking about turning off a good deal of people....If Crean doesn't decide to change his state of Indiana recruiting strategy he will have some problems. I know recruiting this state is not what it used to be, but he just can not strike out on all 4 top 50 kids. I do not care where kids come from as long as they are good players and individuals, but damn Crean had to find a way to get Wilkes. You just can not let a 5*, Mr. Basketball favorite, who you have been recruiting for 4 years go to UCLA. Hopefully he is able to pull a couple of spring signees out of his ass.

I don't know why Fleck'd want to go to Purdue.

    Well their noses were clean.

Definitely disappointing start, as I thought the team would have better focus post-Hammons.

Disclaimer: smoking weed is way better for an athlete than getting hammered. And the stigma needs to go away. But they were rightly punished by Painter for breaking the law.

My guess is that he won't be too interested in Purdue; he's got his sights set high. To get him, I think we'd need to get to 5 wins minimum this year AND our new AD would have to really sell the new commitment to winning. Don't see it happening... Purdue is a multi-year rebuild at a school where it's not exactly easy to win.

If Wilkes ends up going to UCLA, this has to be one of the most disappointing in-state classes combined for the two schools (Purdue and IU). This '17 group was as deep and talented as any in a number of years, and both will have struck out on all those guys.

    Damn Cline...

"Mustain said he found Cline unresponsive with his foot on the gas pedal and the engine revving. Mustain said Cline did not respond when he knocked on both the driver's and passenger's side windows. Mustain said he could not tell if Cline was breathing or not and thought he could be in medical crisis, so he decided to break out the passenger window."

Yeah, Pitino missed out on all the in-state talent as well. Sucks, but we got a couple of nice guards coming in from the east coast.

Pitino got roasted in the media, even though he is bringing in a top 60 PG from New York and another guard, who was one of the best shooters on the EYBL circuit. The media loves them some homegrown players, but at the end of the day, I don't care where the players are from as long as they are talented.

Not sure where you saw that, or if that's the right case. The one I found was a misdemeanor possession charge where he got a pretrial diversion over the summer.

    Link to court records.

It was in this article. With it being in the morning he was obviously on a bender

    http://www.jconline.com/story/sport...1/purdue-suspends-ryan-cline-opener/93139596/

"After breaking the window, Mustain said he unlocked the door and turned off the ignition. He then performed sternum rubs to wake Cline up and called for medics because Cline "was not readily responsive and extremely lethargic." Mustain said he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car.

Mustain said he found a plastic bag containing green leafy substance as well as an orange prescription pill bottle with a small amount of green leafy substance in the middle consul cup holder of the Lexus. The total weight was less than 30 grams.

Mustain's report said the violation occurred at 9:53 a.m.

According to online court records, Cline was charged with one count of possession of marijuana in Hamilton County on July 11. He entered into a pretrial diversion program on Aug. 5."

Yea, I hadn't seen the updated story in the J&C that Klize just linked above. There's definitely more there than a possession situation.

Totally. I'm assuming this will mean increased minutes for Carsen Edwards at least in the first couple weeks. Big chance for the freshman early on.

I'm just watching the replay now, but he looks solid. Obviously the competition makes it tough to get a true feel, but he looks good getting into the lane, knocked down some jumpers, and didn't look limited physically.

Apparently he was a shell of himself when he showed up this summer, so it's encouraging to see him making that big of a progression since then. If we can get ~15 minutes per game from him, I'd be ecstatic.

Sounds like a couple of your newcomers had solid outings last night. Is JBJ back to 100 percent physically?

They also take shots at MSU, for nearly everything. Here is a funny one, right in the most recent Cline thread:

"What a stupid thing to say. No he shouldn't be dismissed immediately and his suspension is harsher than other schools that turn a blind eye to far worse things *cough* MSU *cough* and let players play immediately."

People who make huge deals out of pot citations/suspensions are my favorite type of clueless. That's not excusing their actions, but they take their suspension and you hope they aren't dumb enough to get caught again.
