A high school senior in the 2021 class was around 7th grade 5 years ago. Just becoming a teenager. And teenagers have a pretty short view point of what’s “cool” or “successful.”

So looking over the last 5 seasons (2016-2020), how many wins did your school average?

FSU is 24.8 with 4 NCAA Tourney berths/3 NCAA Tourney appearances. My guess is that’s somewhere in the “very good, not great” range.

The latter half of this decade hasn’t been so kind to us.

Kansas
29.8 wins/year
1 round of 32 (Auburn 2019)
2 Elite Eight (Nova 2016, Oregon 2017)
1 Final Four (Nova 2018)
4 Big 12 regular season titles
2 Big 12 tourney titles

That said, probably left at least 5 wins on the table this year by not being able to play in the conference or NCAA tourney and that would have put us at over 30/season.

2015-2016: 29 wins - Elite 8 (Syracuse)
2016-2017: 23 wins - 2nd round (Florida)
2017-2018: 31 wins - 1st round (UMBC Laughing)
2018-2019: 35 wins - National champs (no one)
2019-2020: 23 wins - Reigning national champs (COVID-19)

141 total wins for a 28.2 average. NCAA's every year.

I'm pretty happy with that :D

Duke is 27.8. Have to believe that FSU’s and Duke’s could’ve both been rounded up with an ACCT and NCAAT this year

Yeah, FSU was on the court to play Clemson when the ACCT was scrapped. Win that game and it’s an even 25 per season.

2019: 29-8 (Sweet 16, Gonzaga)
2020: 26-5 (ACC Reg Season title, probable 2 seed)

124-48 overall; 58-34 in ACC reg season play; 66-14 OOC and postseason.

2020: 24-7 (PAC 12 Regular Season Champions, probable 4 seed)
2019: 25-13 (Sweet 16, Virginia)

19-20 20 wins
18-19 23 wins
17-18 14 wins

15-16 22 wins

throw out that one season and they have avg'd 21 wins

1 2nd Team All BT
2 3rd Team All BT

with far less talent than those at the top.

You didn’t have to remind us that you have far less talent than those at the top. Your year by year record shows that.

So we’re just lying now?

In 5 years you’ve had 3 first team guys(Jok, Garza, and Utoff)

2 second team guys(Cook and Jok in 15-16)

1 third team guy(Wieskamp)

Literally no school has had 6 first team guys in the past 5 years. Not MSU, not Maryland, not UM, not Purdue.

in

14-15 White also a 2nd rnd NBA pick
15-16 Uthoff also a 2nd team AA
16-17 Jok
the 13-14 season Marble also a 2nd rnd NBA pick

JBo in the 18-19 season was a 3rd team All BT.

Wieskamp was the 3rd Team All BT in the 19-20 season

going back 6 seasons Iowa has had 5 1st team All BT players
1 2nd Team All BT Cook
2 3rd Team All BT in Wieskamp and Jordan

this upcoming season
the lineup could look like this if Garza comes back

Garza 1st Team All BT, 1st team AA
Wieszkamp 3rd team All BT
Jordan 3rd Team All BT
as the top 3

last season they had 2 FR starters at the guard position along with two SO's with Garza being just a JR. this was a very young team.

Why do these guys keep getting all these honors if Iowa isn’t even averaging 20 wins a season the last five years? And not a single 25+ win season?

Or.... if these guys are getting all these honors then the talent must be there, why not the wins? Coaching?

The standard answer you'll get from Gil, the one that he's prepared and is ready to get copied and pasted, is that Fran took over a bad program and it would take time. Although, he'd want you to ignore that Fran has been there for 10 years.

Yeah I know his takes on Fran. Crazy. I just can’t see why Big 10 media keep voting for these guys? I thought you had to finish in the 5 of most leagues to consistently get guys on 1st team?

its all about the coaching.
Marble no major offers was a unranked 3*
White no major offers was a unranked 3* but was named a FR AA
Uthoff 3* by Rivals 4* top 100 4* by ESPN
Jok unranked 3*
nad now Garza top 100 4* by ESPN and 4* outside the top 100 by Rivals, in the 2012-13 season with this as Fran's starting lineup of these
C FR Woodbury top 50 4* by both
PF SO White
SF JR Marble
SG FR Clemmons 2* by ESPN
PG FR Gesell top 100 4* by both won 25 games reaching the NIT Championship game, the FR class in the 4 years as starters avg'd 22.25 wps for the 3rd best record in Iowa's history.
then in the 2015 class Fran brought in 5 FR and I JUCO of those only 1 graduated with the others leaving after the true FR, 2 RSFR 1 JR and 1 RSJR years everything from homesickness, grades or simply because of not being happy with their playing time, plus Cook was a EE to the NBA.

if you look at it from 2010-2011 season to the 16-17 season Fran only had 3 4* players by ESPN and 2 4* players by Rivals then in the 2016 class he got these
Cook 4* by both
JBo 4* by ESPN unranked 3* by Rivals
2017
Garza top 100 4* by ESPN 4* by Rivals outside their top 100
Connor top 100 4* by ESPN 4* by Rivals outside their top 100
2018
Wieskamp 4* top 100 by both
2019
Toussaint 4* outside ESPN top 100 3* unranked by Rivals
Patrick 4* top 100 by both.

since the 201615 season Fran has signed 8 4* players losing just one to the NBA as a EE.

from the 10-11 season thru the 16 season not that many players in the 4* range, now we will see how much better the team will be going forward,
7 4*'s vs 3 4*'s this season was cut short and we will never know what the end of season record would have ended up at, with Wieskamp as a 2 year starter has 43 wins after 2 years this fall it will be interesting to follow to see how many wins they have.

Unm...I think you missed my point. I’m saying Iowa isn’t winning very much, so why so much love for the players who clearly aren’t that great at winning.
