Knowing what we all know about Tennessee and the storied program that they are, I think it's the appropriate time to pay some homage to the greatness that we've witnessed over the years. Respect, Hard-Nosed, Gritty, Overcoming, Perseverance - these are all the words that come to mind when I think about the Big Orange. As 2019 comes to a close, let's look back at the team of the decade. 2009: Kiffin Rising As all good things must come to an end, the Phil Fulmer coaching era ends in Knoxville and the Lane Kiffin era begins. With Monte's boy taking over, the decade that was Tennessee is set into motion. After some chest puffing and smack talk, Tennessee was able to back up all the checks that their coach was writing and show the rest of the SEC that the Vols weren't going anywhere. Even in bitter defeat, Vol Nation showed why they were one of the most respected fanbases in the land. But after a couple of off the field mishaps.. .. and late nights in the KCDF .. Lane had his sights set on Hollywood and left Knoxville in less than a year to a tear-jerking farewell. UT students were understandly distraught but made the best of the situation and gave Coach Kiffin a moving send-off.. After a brief glimpse of glory, Tennessee was looking for the next man up to take the Vols to the place they belong. 2010: All Aboard the Big Orange Dooley It didn't take long for UT to realize they had their guy and welcomed Derek Dooley as the next man in charge of the Volunteers. The multi-talented college receiver-turned coach-turned coach/Athletic Director-turned coach again had the pedigree to take on a job as big as that at Tennessee. The mood in Knoxville was optimistic once again. While Dooley was surely the man for the job, things weren't as easy as they seemed. After a couple of early big early season setbacks.. And a few 'counting' errors.. .. that resulted in some tough losses.. .. and then losing to a certain SEC foe .. .. and becoming #2 in the state to a certain team to the west.. .. Tennessee fans were starting to do some 'experimenting' .. Things were looking rough for the Vols but they never lost their spirit.. .. and soon it was time for Man in Orange Pants to leave Knoxville, leaving a slight void in the head coaching spot. It was here where things would take a turn for the better. 2013: Brick by Brick Enter the Butch Jones era. The hard-nosed product from Cincinnati was ready to get to work, righting the ship back on course and the top of the SEC. Recruiting was picking up and so was the cockiness of Vol Nation. But who could blame them? Tennessee was on a collision course with SEC destiny and seemingly nothing could stop them. However, after a few trying times that would send the average fan into despair.. .. Coach Butch Jones made sure that the rest of the SEC knew what his team was really winning .. .. and when you win the Championship of Life, what more can you win? 2018: Pruitt Time To bring Vol Nation's blood pressure from getting too high from all those exciting moments, Tennessee finally decided it was best to go in another direction. Enter: Jeremy Pruitt. While the jury's still out, it does Tennessee proud to know that some traditions have been kept .. .. and the team continues to compete at the highest level .. .. who could be anything but optimistic about the future of Tennessee football? So, what do the next 10 years hold for the Volunteers? These guys can't wait to find out.
