Are you scared to get beat up?

I’m 52 years old and have no interest in taking an ass whooping, which is why I have a CCW.

in fairness though, I have no interest in giving anyone an ass whooping either.

why can’t you live and let live, hawk?

Im not afraid of confrontation, but I’ll be 53 later this year, so testosterone has been replaced with mellowness, although not completely. At this age you figure out what’s really worth fighting for and it turns out it’s very little. I’m a pretty big guy too (6’ 6”/290) so that keeps a lot of heroes a little less reactionary.

I’ve been in my share of fights in my younger years and recovered from them all, so physical altercations aren’t that big of a deal, but are also rarely worth it. I’d rather have a personality that people enjoy being around.

39, and I haven’t been in an actual fight since I was 19 or 20. I don’t shy away from confrontation, but I think most people don’t actually want to throw down when you reach a certain age. Most of us have too much to lose (career, etc) unless it’s pure self defense. It’s just not worth it.

No, but I also don’t put myself in situations where that’s a real possibility anymore. Too old for that crap. Life’s short; don’t waste time fighting morons.
Yeah , this....I just simply walk away. When we'd go out, I;d always look around, check my surroundings, and pretty much figure out where trouble could come from. Some people look for it(trouble) and unfortunately at times, you are gonna cross their path. In that case, I just try to be as cordial as possible, level headed, and stay calm.

I usually beat up at least 2 people a week just to make sure I still got it.

.....Nah, ive literally been in one fight in my entire life and it's because I was sloppy drunk. He had about 5 inches and 50 lbs on me. I hit him as hard as I could and he didn't budge. I realized then that I should probably never fight again.

Tell us what happened after that.

Lol I know you want to hear that I got my ass beat but surprisingly I didn't even get hit. I went to throw another punch and his buddy tackled me into a bush. Me and that guy rolled around trying to win the wrestling match and my buddies jumped in to fight the other guys. Then it got broken up by security at the hotel.

It was Cat on Cat crime. We were all UK fans in Nashville for the SECT.

Wow, what a question.
I won't talk about my past because it is what it is, and some is not what you want to think about or share, all I will say is it's not worth it when you get older, when you face someone being stupid or someone from the past, you forget how old your body is because of your anger and pride, sometimes they override your wisdom.
So I try as hard as I possibly can, with the help of my wife to walk away.
My wife has really changed my life, she has tamed me with her love and understanding. The last thing I want to do is get into a fight, because of her, it would affect her as much as me in the long run. I just accept everyone as who they are, but demand the same respect. 🤔

I mean, I only weigh like a buck 50 so while I'm in pretty good shape I'm probably not laying the beatdown on too many people. I've never actually been in a fight tbh. I know a few enforcers who were always around so never had to worry too much about it.

Not surprised you are that guy.

To be honest, I consider myself too smart to fight for the most part. I mean, if someone came at me I would throw down. I'm not going to just take a beating. But it is a pretty stupid thing to fight unless you are getting paid for it. No one really wins in any real, tangible way.

Nobody wants to get their ass beat. As already stated. Here lately, I have been in more situations than I like having to escort angry drunks out of the bar. Was rare, but for some reason people are getting more mad as of late. I have the benefit of them being drunk and me being sober, so...

Never been "beat up" but been bested by a few good punches to the face. I moved back to Chicago this year after being gone for 2 years. I'm not really worried about getting my ass kicked but getting shot/robbed is a serious concern. It's much worse now that it was a few years ago. I recently bought a burner phone to carry with me when I'm out at night so that if/when I get robbed I don't lose my "good" phone with all my contacts and financial information. Sometimes I take screen shots of my citizen app b/c my family in Louisville don't realise how close to home this stuff has become. There used to be "bad" places you knew to avoid. I still avoid those places but the sh!t is everywhere now.

Yes sir, what I bolded is the problem, in today's time there is nothing but pussys being bullies that can't fight but want to pull out a gun or knife to make them bigger, when I grew up you fight and if you get your ass kicked you heal and fight again.
It's not a gun or knife problem it's a people problem, they have let their children down by not teaching them to respect other people as much as they respect their self and get an education to make a living. But it's to easy to live off government assistant and not worry about working?

Edit: I have no college at all, just a high school education but I have a good paying job, so anyone can do it if they really try!!!

Back in my day, if ya got in a fight, usually the next day, sometimes even after supper, everything was cool. In today's world? Nope. KNives, guns, etc, etc....

I;ve been in a few tustles---especially back in my "drinking days". But I haven't been in a fight in years. I avoid situations where that shit can occur....Aware of my surroundings. Plus, I no longer go to bars---so that has cut down on altercations by like, well, 99%... 🤣

Really, and sadly, the closest I've came to fights/altercations, etc....have been while officiating lower level sports, i.e. LL baseball, travel ball----even mens leagues(refuse to do that shit at all).

I grew up with guns, hunting, shooting, had all kinds, but never once in all my fights did I think about shooting someone. I was raised to understand the meaning of shooting someone, it was deadly!!

Never once as a child, a student, etc....did I EVER worry about someone shooting at me, or shooting up a school. We paid respect to the flag, every morning before school. Yes sir, no sir, yes ma'am, no ma'm, to our teachers. And especially my parents. Chores were given AND DONE, along with homework, before you even considered asking to go over to a friends house.

Yeah I know, this is a old fogy story.....But listen, heres the deal: Kids havent changed--PARENTS have. Man I didn even THNK of disrespecting my parents, mom, dad, grandma, or pops....Hell I was scared they could read minds... 🤣 . My grandparenst raised me from the age of 12. My grandma? Bro she's whoop your ass with whatever was in her hand, or withn reach. Learned quickly---don't piss off grandma while she was using the vacuum...No, sir. We ate dinner at 7....That meant at 6:30, your ass was getting washed up, and ready to sit at the dinner table. No taking your plate to your bedroon, living roon----We ate at the dnner table, as a family. There was 7 of us: Me and 6 uncles and aunts. We cleaned off the table----done the dishes. Not grandma---not grandpa. On Sundays, we went to church. If you didn't go, you didn't go anywhere that day. After church, we had lunch at the Country Kitchen. Went home, got out of our church clothes, and the rest of the day was ours; no chores on Sundays.

Thats just how it was, man. And its how I raised my son.

Kids haven't changed----Parents have.

I missed this post some way, glad I reread the thread, but you said it in the bolded, bottom line, career wise means a lot. If I get arrested, I am suspended from work, if it is a felony I am gone. Sorry I missed this.

Same here...Especially with officiating/umpiring. The IHSAA(Indiana High SChool Athletic Assc), NCAA, and the NAIA, they don't mess around with that type of shit. Background checks every year. First offense, if its alcohol or drug related, you are suspended, and MUST attend classes. Domestic violence? Not tolerated. Again, suspensions, classes, etc, etc...

Second time? Toast.

Same with my job.

Hey bud, well you do me a favor, I think you talk to @lurkeraspect84 , if that is correct contact him and tell him to email me, or call and give me your phone number because I would like to help you out some, I do not put my credit card numbers on the internet. I am older and that's just me, but I can send you a check. You can tell him that I will be up late tomorrow night but not again until Sunday night due to work.
