50 Best Players in CBB 2018 - 2019

If Duke has three of the four best players in the country, we might as well hand them the title. Seems like a bit of a stretch though.

I think Hunter from Virginia is too low, may be the most talented to play under Bennett. Brissett from Syracuse is legit too. He may have been freshman of year in the acc had it not been for Bagley.

I don't understand the criteria for Top 50 College Basketball Players

"The criteria: 1/3 their NBA prospects, 1/3 their individual talent, 1/3 how vital they are to their team’s success."

What does their NBA prospects have to do with them being a top college player?

No PJ Washington or Reid Travis? Have a hard time putting Keldon Johnson above either of them as far as UK goes, and he was at 17.

Somehow they listed nic richards as barely missing the top 50. WTF

Questionable list, at best. I have no problem with RJ at one, not sure if the other two Duke freshman are even top 10. Who knows.
Dean Wade from KSU will be a contender for big12 POY and doesn't make it. Udoka will be one of the top centers in the nation and doesn't make it. Its just like the guy forgot about 50% of the players

Reddish definitely belongs their when you consider this criteria. Most consider him the best pro prospect in this class.

Though I'm definitely a Reddish fanboy, I personally like his game more than Barretts.

But no way does Zion belong on this list let alone top 10 unless Athleticism was 99.5% of the criteria.

The writer might be ******ed

10. Luke Maye, F, UNC, Senior – Had the big year everyone expected (16.9 ppg, 10.1 rpg, 43 percent on 3-pointers), and he’s back in hopes the Tar Heels could get him a 2nd national title.

3. Nassir Little, SF, UNC, Freshman – I compared the MVP of the McDonald’s All-Star game (28 points on 12 shots) to Draymond Green, who was very skilled offensively at Michigan State, where he was the Big Ten Player of the Year. Little, who is 6-foot-6 but plays much bigger (7-foot-1 wingspan), could average 18-10 for the Tar Heels.

Why do you have Dedric Lawson at #1? I knew he was supposed to be pretty good but I didn’t think anybody thought he was best player in CBB good.

I think plenty of people believe he could be that good. Or in the ballpark. He averaged close to 20 and 10 two seasons ago and has great passing ability.

Top 4 are all freshman. Didn't even happen this past year with one of the best freshman classes I've ever seen. My prediction is 1 of those 4 makes 1st team AA and another makes 2nd team AA. Would guess Barrett and Little the most likely.

This is really well thought out. I commend your effort and could in no way put together a full top 100 list.

But I will say that you, and my guess is most of the country, is really really overlooking Mfiondu Kabengele.

I'm not even going to try and act like I know more than 75% of the players you listed lol. So, assuming this is your list and not pulled from someone else, mad respect for putting this all together! I think a bunch of people here haven't heard some of the names on your list, let Alone being able to rank them.

A very respectable cheers for this!!!

Edit: I find myself frequently revising along the way (often switching the rankings of players). Just noticed that I put Grant Williams at #16 and #19, which means I probably left off a very significant player... wonder who that was.

Have to include Zavier Simpson somewhere in a top 100 list.

This is really well thought out. I commend your effort and could in no way put together a full top 100 list.

But I will say that you, and my guess is most of the country, is really really overlooking Mfiondu Kabengele.

I thought about Kabengele and Simpson, believe it or not. I excluded MK mostly because Hamilton plays a deep rotation, so I'm not sure he'll get top-line minutes like a typical starter, which will hurt his overall stats. I like Simpson, and nearly put him on my list. His shooting percentages is what bothered me. But I would certainly have him & MK somewhere in the 101-150 range.

You're a good dude but there's no way you're getting laid on the reg

Eh, you're probably right. We have two young kids and the wife often gets worn down and fatigued by time the kids are asleep, the dishes are done, the toys are cleaned up, and so forth... I'll be okay, though.

Fortunately, I already had a list of my top 10 conference players for the power conferences, so it wasn't painfully time consuming. I think the hardest part was trying to revise the list when I didn't like the order I was ranking them.

Yeah he is average offensively but he’s one of the best defensive players in the country.

You're definitely right about Ham's deep rotations often keeping stats down. Would have been even deeper if Ike Obiagu (another borderline top 100 guy) hadn't decided to delay his career and transfer.

I guess I thought you were going more by their actual ability as a player and some efficiency, not just points and rebounds per game.

I didn't put a whole lot of thought into specific metrics while I was formulating the rankings. Efficiency numbers would certainly be useful to incorporate, though. I suppose I was mostly looking for All-American and All-Conference type players, as well as the occasional unicorns playing in mid-majors - and then significant players on elite teams. Kabengele could still make one of the All ACC teams, but I see him more as a All-Conference Honorable Mention-type selection at this point. At any rate, I think he'll be a very solid contributor.

I think all that is very fair.

Why do you say that? Just curious. What kind of numbers do you think he will put up and how many minutes do you think he will play?

Kellen Grady is the only one I'm unfamiliar with. I don't agree with dukedevilz's rankings or even all the names, but no way I could put together a top 100. Mad props..

Incredible job, esp when compared to the link's list.

Theres at least 10 people on here that I've never heard of...probably a few more if I really thought about. I do know that theres at least 25 people who i wouldn't know what team their on. I felt safe to say that i knew at least 75 of them which is why i said the 25%. It really is a remarkable effort to list all of these...let alone the ranking

I think the argument for D.Lawson is the type of Stats KU bigs put up when they run their offense through them. In addition it will be very difficult to double him with a monster on the other side in Azubuike.

I don't know that he will put up gaudy numbers since, as another poster already said, Ham plays so many kids 10+ minutes. But in terms of impact, his will be big. Kid had the highest usage rate on the team last year, despite being a very raw redshirt freshman who didn't even start.

His offensive rebounding % (14.4) would have been top 20 in the country if he played just a handful more minutes to qualify. He shot 51% from two, despite not really having any real post moves, and he stepped out to drill 38% of his threes. Oh and he draws fouls at a very high rate. 2nd highest FT Rate on the team.

If he can learn to avoid committing some of the over-aggressive fouls he's prone to, he could be a matchup nightmare for most teams. Case in point, his 14 point, 12 rebound, 2 block, 1 steal performance in 27 minutes against Missouri in the opening round of the NCAAT.

Quentin grimes at 14 as a freshman?

All the players listed had to play 4 years under self and are barely finding a spot in the nba.

Quentin Grimes, SG, Kansas, Freshman – Last year it was Devonte’ Graham; the year prior Frank Mason; before that Tyshawn Taylor and further back Sherron Collins. This is what Bill Self does – finds guards. Grimes, who is 6-foot-5 and played on Team USA for Self, is next

You mean the most highly touted player that you mentioned is expected to perform the best as a freshman? Who'd a thunk.

Not to mention 5'10 guards aren't in heavy demand in the ol NBA.
