2021 offseason OT general discussion thread.

The "road to nowhere" in Bryson City is a simple and easy trip. There are miles of hiking trails once you get through the tunnel. We saw a bear cross the path. Never looked our way. Thought I was going to have to channel my inner @JimboBBN for a minute. We hiked for about 2 hours.

As you can see. @dukedevilz has clearly been here.

Free hugs? Really? I'm a capitalist, I charge for my hugs.

The road to nowhere is a pretty cool place. If you ever go back, make sure when people are passing by, getting ready to enter the tunnel, that you say something to your wife along the lines of, "Did you see all the dead bodies inside there? Even I was surprised."

With all of these pics, I feel like I should be expecting a pic of my neighborhood soon.

Are you in Swain County?

I live on the Cherokee Reservation, on the Jackson County side. Part of the reservation is in Jackson County, and part of it is in Swain County. We lived in Swain County when we were first married, though. Probably takes me 15 minutes or so to go to get to the railroad from my house.

Nice. I love it there. But to be honest, I could never leave the beach permanently. We also went and saw some live music in Bryson City at a place called the Unplugged Pub. These dudes were like, 80. But they were pretty good. Outlaw Whiskey, something like that. We went to Cherokee at the beginning of the year. Didn't see much of the town, just went to the casino for a little while. Not really my scene. But we can say we did it. Would like to actually enjoy Cherokee one day.

Beach life sounds nice. I think Lake Tahoe might be the best of all worlds - snow, mountains, and water. I'm a fan of Wrightsville Beach, though. And the Outer Banks.

There are a few things to do in Cherokee. It's a little touristy, especially with the Casino Resort. Honestly, though, you could probably do most everything in Cherokee in a day or two. The outdoor play, Indian Village, and Cherokee Museum are worth a visit. Lots of stuff to do outside. We frequently go to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg & Asheville when we're looking for something different. Those locations are about an hour away from us. Variety is always welcomed.

It's all relative to what we are accustomed to, I would guess. I imagine had I grown up in the mountains, I would be partial to that lifestyle. I have been at the beach since I was 18, before that I was between Chapel Hill and Durham. I think the snow is the biggest turn off for me when it comes to the mountains. But I didn't say before... The people in your area are very friendly. Everyone says hello, waves and all that. Not so common around certain parts of here.

On our last trip, we went to Pigeon Forge and checked out Alcatraz East. We're crime nuts so that was a pretty awesome experience. We went to Old Forge Distillery and got a little lit on some moonshine samples. Then had a late lunch in Gatlinburg. The trip between Cherokee and Gatlinburg is beautiful. An hour and a half drive in the mountains is so much nicer than an hour and a half drive here. So much scenery.

I hadn't heard of Alcatraz East and after googling it, it looks awesome. Next time I'm at my inlaws I'm going to check it out.

@lurkeraspect84 or @coryfly have either of you been to Ruby falls/Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga? It looks pretty incredible. Just wondering if it is super crowded or worth the trip.

Update on the Pellet Grill. I’m enjoying it more than I had even imagined. This was about half the meat I prepared for yesterday with it (it was over 20 lbs of meat total). Leg of Lamb cooked medium, Pork Belly cubed, and Boston Butt hand pulled.

If any of you are considering getting a Pellet Grill, I’d highly recommend it. Just like anything, do your research on the features you really want.

What brand and model do you have? If you don't mind repeating, to early to dig through the posts, got to get ready for work😉

No problem.

RT-700 from Rec Tec Grills. I’m a big fan.
That's a nice looking one. A guy that I work with has two Traeger pellet smokers, he said that one was 700 and the larger one was 1000. I have considered switching to pellet but what he tells me about the amount of pellets that it takes to smoke a butt for 12 hours sounds excessive. (20 pounds)

Mine is about a pound per hour at 225. It was a bit pricier on the front end, but it burns pretty efficiently.
