2020-21 College Basketball Draft, FINAL STANDINGS

Jalen Johnson has got to be one of the biggest busts in this league. He just cleaned out his locker at Duke, and I took him in the second round.

Tough break, man. He is supremely talented. He has All-American type talent. No question in my mind. He's a bit of a head case, unfortunately.

With Iowa doing their annual February Fran Fade, can Ayo or Butler swipe the National POY award from Luka?

Those three and Timme are almost certain to be first team All Americans. Who is the 5th?

I’m more than likely going have 2 first team all Americans and not win due to not great late drafting. Completely different than last year, where I whiffed on my early picks but made up ground with some later snags. I hit on Butler and Timme, but man I got so many guys who are just disappointing.

If I were voting, I'd saying Davion Mitchell or Corey Kispert.

I'm kicking myself for talking myself out of drafting Timme and drafting Crutcher instead. I should have known he'd be hard pressed to repeat his ridiculous efficiency numbers without Toppin. He's still very good and will be 1st team all A10 but you are aiming higher with your 2nd round pick.

If I were voting, I'd saying Davion Mitchell or Corey Kispert.

Kispert would be interesting. He's been ridiculous. I just saw that Suggs is back in the KenPom POY top 10. He's probably not putting up enough numbers to snag a 3rd team AA spot but he's been as good as advertised. 14.2, 5.4 and 4.4 with 2.2 steals per game while a 57% EFG is pretty impressive for a freshman.

Davion Mitchell outperforming MaCio Teague has really hurt me this year.

Kispert has an efg of 68%, which isn't too far behind Zion. Outrageous shooting numbers. If Gonzaga stays undefeated, which they should, I think the big three for the Zags will all receive All-American honors. Not sure who ends up on which team, but I think the possibility of that happening is reasonably high.

Davion Mitchell outperforming MaCio Teague has really hurt me this year.

For sure. Mitchell has been a surprise. I did have in my preseason top 150 rankings, but nobody really expected him to elevate his game quite to this level. All five Baylor starters were all-conference performers last year. So, you still have that going for you. I'd say Teague is a safe pick for 2nd Team All-Conference. And you never know, he could end up being on the All-Tournament team. That would count for 5 points.

Ayo Dosunmu is now the favorite to win Big Ten Player of the Year.

Cassidy's take:
FACT. This is incredibly close in my mind. And while Iowa’s
Luka Garza
is scoring at a bit of a higher clip and obviously holds the edge when it comes to rebounding numbers, Ayo Dosunmu’s assist totals can’t be ignored. Nor can the fact that the Illinois star seems to find another gear when his team needs him late in games. The two massive shots he knocked down to ice Tuesday’s victory over Northwesternwere a mere sample of what Dosunmu has been doing all season. If he’s able to lead Illinois to a share of the Big Ten title, it should easily push him over the edge.

McDonald's take: FACT. He has to be at this point. What he’s done lately is simply ridiculous. While Michigan and Ohio State seem to be a little bit more balanced in their scoring attacks, Illinois seems to go as Dosunmu goes. He does it at both ends and seems to always hit the big shot. He’s the type of player that could carry Illinois not just to a Big Ten championship but also potentially a national championship.

Coming down to the home stretch. I think Ayo hurt his B1GPOY and NPOY argument last night by struggling in a bad loss to MSU. Man, it feels good to write MSU as a bad loss.

Yeah, I think Garza's still the front runner for B1G POY and NPOY. Ayo has been awfully impressive, though. Still a small chance, but he can't afford anymore subpar performances.

Still can't believe I passed on him. My first instinct said Ayo, but for whatever reason I talked myself out of it.

So I dropped a 2nd team All Big Ten guy in Joe Weiskamp. Too early to tell how big of a mistake that was.

And here it is, the official AP All-American teams.

First team
Luka Garza, senior, Iowa
Jared Butler, junior, Baylor
Ayo Dosunmu, junior, Illinois
Cade Cunningham, freshman, Oklahoma State
Corey Kispert, senior, Gonzaga

Second team
Drew Timme, sophomore, Gonzaga
Jalen Suggs, freshman, Gonzaga
Evan Mobley, freshman, USC
Hunter Dickinson, freshman, Michigan
Kofi Cockburn, sophomore, Illinois

Third team
Davion Mitchell, junior, Baylor
Quentin Grimes, junior, Houston
Herb Jones, senior, Alabama
Cameron Krutwig, senior, Loyola Chicago
Chris Duarte, sophomore, Oregon

@boilerzz has probably just about wrapped this season up with the victory. He had 3 All-Americans. Here's the breakdown of the All-Americans, by posters:

WeAreDePaul: Luka Garza, Cameron Krutwig
MGC_07: Jared Butler, Drew Timme
jwill133: Kofi Cockburn
hailtoyourvictor: Evan Mobley
GE Nole: Cade Cunningham
dukedevilz: Corey Kispert
boilerzz: Ayo Dosunmu, Jalen Suggs, Quentin Grimes

All-Americans Not Drafted: Hunter Dickinson, Davion Mitchell, Herb Jones, Chris Duarte

See isn’t it a tough choice? I really feel between a ball and a round object here. The good news is, I probably am not winning anyway, so I guess the choice doesn’t really have much riding on it haha.

I guess I’m gonna go with the win shares over all else and keep Fulkerson.

Drop Remy and Keon.

Yikes. Remy Martin makes Honorable Mention All-American and Fulkerson completely misses All-SEC honors, after being a 1st Team member last season. Did not see that coming. Tough blow.

Our discussion of Gonzaga All Americans was interesting:

Well you, @dukedevilz with Corey Kispert, and I will all be competing for that coveted Gonzaga All American spot, although there very well may be 2 this year.
I could easily see one each on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams.
I'm thinking Gonzaga gets 2 All-Americans at this point. 3 is possible, and not unprecedented, but they could probably only lose one game to pull that off. Duke did have 3 All-Americans in 2002. Williams was 1st Team, Dunleavy was 2nd team, and Boozer was 3rd Team.

I honestly don't know who's going to to be the most valuable Zag at this point. They've got a heckuva trio.

Been a while since we've posted in this. Guessing we should see the final standings in the next week @dukedevilz?

Yup. I'll release those next week. There are still points to collect for making the all-tournament team - and a few more Win Shares from the final three games. Without doing any number crunching, I'm pretty sure you got this one in the bag.

I'm thinking Chet Holmgren might be the #1 overall pick in our draft next season. Don't even know who would be a good alternative. Maybe Hunter Dickinson or Drew Timme, if either sticks around.

Holmgren might not even stick around. I'm thinking 70/30 Gonzaga or G league.

Alright gents, the season has concluded. We can't all be winners. But, congrats to @boilerzz on taking the ship. Hail came much closer than I would have anticipated. Crazy part is, he may have had a decent chance at winning if not for the season-ending injuries to Collin Gillespie and Isaiah Livers.

GE Nole got robbed a bit because Remy Martin was dropped, and he ended up making HM All-American. I honestly didn't foresee a player from a sub .500 team receiving those honors. He would have safely finished in 3rd with Martin in the lineup. Instead, he's dropped to 6th. On the other hand, if I had a healthy Keyontae Johnson, I'm probably safely in 3rd. Injuries are brutal. Fun to track the progress of these guys. Good draft everyone, and hope to do it again next season!

The battle for 3rd place was really, really close. 5 posters all had a shot at claiming bronze.

Also, found it strange that the guys who posted 8th, 9th, and 10th finished in the same position as their draft order. Crazy. It may be a little bit of an unfair advantage, but 10 of the top 25 individual performers were taken in Round 4 or later of the draft. Takes some luck and strategy to find the right players, I suppose.
